Abstract

The use of learning videos Youtube which can be accessed online is the preferred solution that can be used to overcome challenges-based learning problems. This study plans to determine how effective the use of YouTube videos in the direct instruction learning model is on the learning outcomes of class X MIPA 1 students at SMA Negeri 1 Wonomulyo on the subject matter of reduction and oxidation reactions. The use of Youtube videos is the preferred solution that can be used to overcome the problem of courageous learning caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. This research is a pre-experimental research with the one group pretest posttest research design. The research subjects in this study were students in class X MIPA 1. The results showed an increase in learning outcomes from the average before treatment, namely 34.63, increasing to 84.23 with an average normalized gain of 0.75. This means that the use of Youtube videos in the model effective direct instruction learning with a high category on the learning outcomes of students in class X MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 1 Wonomulyo the subject matter of reduction and oxidation reactions. The results of testing the hypothesis using the right-sided t-test obtained tcount = 4.5417 at a significant level α = 0.05 obtained ttable = 1.699. The use of Youtube videos in the direct instruction learning model effectively improves the learning outcomes of students in class X MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 1 Wonomulyo on the subject matter of reduction and oxidation reactions.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the damage to lung morphology in mice (Mus musculus) by administering various strong acids by inhalation. The string acids used in this study are HCl 30%, H2SO4 50%, and HNO3 50%). The subjects of the study were 2-month old mice which were divided into 4 treatment groups consisting of 2 mice per group. There are 4 gorups of mice; a control group, a treatment group with 37% hydrochloric acid (HCl), a group with with sulfuric acid (H2SO4) 50% treatment, and a group with nitric acid (HNO3) 50% treatment. Strong acids are given simultaneously with standard feed and drinking water ad libitium. Tthe mice (Mus musculus) were euthanized 10 days post treatment and surgery was performed to observe lung morphology consisting of color, weight, and shape. The study showed that the administration of strong acid damaged the lung morphology of mice and the agent causing most severe damage of lungs was the 50% nitric acid (HNO3).

Abstract

Metacognition refers to the capacity to regulate one's own cognitive processes, encompassing skills such as remembering, comprehending, applying, analyzing, evaluating, and creating in relation to specific subjects. This study aimed to assess students' metacognitive abilities in their application, repetition, and explanation of scientific material. The research employed a quantitative approach, which is a systematic and scientific method used to investigate phenomena and their causal relationships. The study population comprised all students of SMP Bosowa School Makassar, while the sample consisted of 11 students from Class VII. Data was collected through a survey questionnaire. The findings indicate that the metacognitive abilities of Class VII students at SMP Bosowa School Makassar are good, suggesting that students have a solid grasp of scientific concepts and experience little difficulty in learning the subject.

Abstract

Problems that are often faced by educators in measuring the level of understanding of students' concepts are questions that are made to have a low cognitive level and short answers which make the questions unable to properly measure the students' understanding. This study is useful in describing how the feasibility of a concept understanding assessment instrument is. The research design in this study is Research and Development based on the Borg & Gall model by only carrying out 5 steps due to several reasons. The subject of this research is an instrument for assessing the ability to understand concepts. The results of the analysis of the 12 assessment questions are feasible to use because they have a validity value of 0.56 with a "enough" category and a reliability value of 0.72 with a "enough" category and can be said to be a valid research instrument. And because there are 3 questions that have a negative significant value (-) then questions number 2, 10 and 12 are omitted so that this instrument is more valid.

Abstract

This research is about classroom action research which had done in two cycles. The purpose of this research is to increase student activities and result of learning by mind map. The subject of this research are the student of XI MIA 1 SMA Negeri 9 Makassar. The data research that had been collected were divided into 2, as follows student activities and student learning result. Students activities were collected among learning process which supervised by researcher and helped by 2 observers use observation papers, then researcher get the data of learning result throught tests which held biology class in the third meeting every cycle, the final cycle test that was given is multiple choice test concist 25 item. All the data that was obtained, analyzed through 3 ways there are; qualitative analysis for students learning activity, quantitative for the students learning result and normalized gain to students learning result margin improvement category. The result of the researchabout students learning activity that has been analized showed the average on the first cycle of 75,10%, meanwhile in the second cycle of 88,57%, so so the difference is 13,47%. Through the quantitative analysis so the researcher can define the students completeness category of learning result which the amount of students that complete the first cycle is 71,43% while in the second cycle reached 91,43%. Accompained by the students decreasing category who incomplete in the first cycle is about 28,57% into 8,57% in the second cycle. Based on the gain analized, the improvement of learning result in the second cycle against in the first cycle is about 0,46 or medium category. So, it can be concluded that the use of mind map can increase the activity and the study result of a student.

Abstract

Proportion is one of the main topics in mathematics have been learnt in primary school. This is a qualitative study aims at understanding how primary studentswith different mathematics ability work on proportion problem. The subjects are grade 5 studentsconsisted of low, middle, and high level mathematics ability.The instrument is a proportion problem test. The result shows that students with low ability did not use idea of proportion attacking the problem. The students looked the quantities directly. Middle levels used the proportionconcepthowever they couldn’t consider all of information in the problem. Thus, they couldn’t draw a good statement in order to make a reasonable conclusion. Highlevel students used proportion and considered all of the quantities to draw the conclusion

Abstract

The research aimed to investigate the effect of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) on lipid peroxidation activity and nitric oxide concentration in the aorta of male Wistar rats due to exposure to cigarette smoke. This study was a laboratory experiment using 21 rats that were divided into 3 groups: KN-14 (negative control that is given smoke exposure within 14 days), DHEA-1 (15 mg/kgBW + smoke exposure for 14 days), and DHEA-2 (30 mg/kgBW + smoke exposure for 14 days). The exposure was carried out in 25-45 minutes with 4 cigarettes/day within 14 days. Surgery was performed in the 15th days to remove the aorta to examine malondialdehyde (MDA) as a biomarker of lipid peroxidation and nitric oxide (NO) concentration using Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The results showed that a significant increase in MDA concentrations was found in the group administered with DHEA, particularly at a dose of 30 mg/kgBW (p<0.05). Meanwhile, the administration of DHEA at doses of 15 and 30 mg/kgBW did not have a significant effect (p>0,05) on aortic NO concentrations compared to the group KN-14. Therefore, it can be concluded that the administration of DHEA could increase lipid peroxidation activity, as indicated by a significant increase in aortic MDA concentrations, without affecting aortic NO concentrations in rats exposed to cigarette smoke for 14 days.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze local wisdom in Riau based on ethnoscience. This study uses the SLR (Systematic Literature Review) method using the PRISMA diagram. The analysis technique used is by collecting data by identifying or reviewing all articles that have the same research topic in this study. The articles used in this study were 3 journal articles and 3 theses. From this study, it was found that there are three local wisdoms, namely the tradition of manongkah shellfish in Indragiri Hilir Regency, local wisdom about bird catching techniques in Rumbio Village, local wisdom of the Rumbio customary prohibition forest. The results of this study indicate that there are 2 trends in ethnoscience-based science research, namely the local wisdom of the rumbio customary prohibition forest and the local wisdom of manongkah shellfish in Indragiri Hilir. Thus, it can be concluded that the local wisdom that exists in Riau Province is based on ethnoscience.

Abstract

This study investigated the effect of dehydroepiandrosterone on the lungs of male Wistar rats exposed to cigarette smoke. A total of 21 male Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups, namely the first group (negative control exposed to cigarette smoke for 14 days), the second group (given DHEA at a dose of 15 mg/kgBW and exposure to cigarette smoke), the third group (given DHEA at a dose of 30 mg/kgBW and exposure to cigarette smoke). DHEA was administered orally through a cannula 30 minutes before exposure to cigarette smoke with an exposure duration of about 25-40 minutes, equivalent to 4 cigarettes/day. After 14 days of experimentation, the rats were euthanized. Right lungs were harvested for malondialdehyde level measurement using the thiobarbituric acid reactive substance method measured by UV-Visible spectrophotometer at a wavelength of 532 nm. The left lungs were also harvested for histopathological examination. This study showed that pulmonary malondialdehyde levels in second and third group tended to be higher than in first group. Meanwhile, histopathological examination showed that the percentage of lung tissue damage in second and third group tended to be lower than in first group. Thus, it can be concluded that DHEA at doses of 15 and 30 mg/kgBW tended to act as a pro-oxidant but might potentially improve lung histology due to cigarette smoke exposure.

Abstract

This research is a pre-experimental study that aims to determine how effective the discovery learning model is on students' higher-order thinking skills for Class X MIPA 1 studies on the subject of redox reactions. The research design used is The One Group Pretest Posttest Design. The research subjects in this study were students of class X MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 5 Gowa. The results of descriptive analysis show the average normalized gain is 0.71, which means that the use of discovery learning models is effective with the high category on the high-level thinking skills of class X students, MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 5 Gowa on the subject of reduction and oxidation reactions. The results of hypothesis testing using the one-group Wilcoxon test for the average N-gain obtained the lowest wcount = 164.5 and the wtable value at the 0.05 confidence level = 151. This is shows H0 is accepted and H1 is failed, which means that the use of discovery learning models is not effective in significantly increasing the high-level thinking skills of students of class X MIPA 1 on the material of reduction and oxidation reactions.
