Abstract

The study of methodology in Islamic studies has undergone a significant change from the traditional approach that focuses on textual and normative analysis to a more multidisciplinary and sophisticated paradigm. With the integration of epistemology, phenomenology, hermeneutics, and empirical techniques, the understanding of Islam as a religion now encompasses a broader social, cultural, and historical dimension. To achieve this goal, Systematic Literature Review (SLR) reviews are conducted using methodologies and tools that support systematic thinking, identification, feasibility testing, and meta-analysis through journal articles, books, research reports, and other sources published in the last 10 years. The Literature Selection and Quality Assessment consists of Inclusion Literature that discusses the Methodology of Islamic Studies: Islam as a Religion within the scope of Epistemology, Paradigm, and Methodology Perspectives from Google Scholar, Semantic Sholar, Eric, Crossref, and Science Direct databases. The results of the study found that the methodology of Islamic studies has shifted from a traditional approach to a more sophisticated and multidisciplinary paradigm. Epistemological shifts lead to contextual and interpretive perspectives, combining phenomenological, hermeneutical, historical, and empirical techniques. This approach allows for a more comprehensive understanding of Islam as a religion and a social phenomenon.

Abstract

This study is rooted in the uniqueness of the pesantren tradition that combines local religious and cultural values in communication practices, which often differ from the concept of Western rhetoric oriented towards ethos, pathos, and logos. In the Ngalah Islamic Boarding School, rhetoric not only functions as a means of communication, but also as a means to build and strengthen spiritual and emotional relationships between the kiai and the students, without ignoring the values of the Ahlus Sunnah Wal Jama'ah tradition. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with an ethnographic method, involving observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with the kiai and students to understand the dynamics of their communication and relationships. Data are processed through data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The research findings show that Kiai Sholeh Bahruddin applies an emotional approach through the practice of nyuwuk, which strengthens the bond between the kiai and the students, creating a relationship that goes beyond just teacher and student, to resemble the relationship between father and son. This study also revealed that the rhetoric in this Islamic boarding school functions as a means to build deep spiritual relationships and integrate religious values with general education, as well as making a significant contribution to the formation of character and social integration of students.

Abstract

Religion should be a guideline for life and a filter against deviations in society. However, currently there is a growing understanding that leads to excessive and extreme religious practices, which are contrary to the essence of religious teachings themselves. To overcome this, the Ministry of Religion issued a policy on Strengthening Religious Moderation in PTKIN, which aims to be a space for sowing, educating, mentoring, and strengthening the religious moderation movement in the campus environment. This study uses a Mixed Methods approach with a survey to compile the components of the Religious Moderation Literacy Index (ILMB) based on a study by the Ministry of Religion. The research sample consisted of 100 PTKIN students in Aceh selected purposively with a 10% margin of error. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires, then analyzed inductively based on the theory of religious moderation literacy and Islamic values. The results showed that the religious moderation literacy index of PTKIN students in Aceh was 50.48, which is relatively low. The basic understanding value of 57.67 and advanced understanding of 37.97 indicate that understanding of religious moderation needs to be improved. The students' knowledge of religious moderation that is not yet optimal shows the need for synergy between stakeholders and the use of social media. Strengthening religious moderation literacy in Aceh requires a comprehensive approach, including the integration of Islamic values in education and the use of digital media.

Abstract

Women's liberation theology, developed by Riffat Hassan, offers a critical hermeneutical approach to interpreting Islamic sacred texts in a way that is more inclusive and just towards women. Riffat Hassan's thinking highlights that many patriarchal interpretations that harm women come from the dominant social and cultural context, not from the text itself. This research uses a qualitative method with a content analysis approach. Through critical hermeneutic analysis, this research emphasizes the principles of justice, equality, and human dignity in Islam as a foundation for reforming religious understandings and practices that discriminate against women. In the context of Islamic law in Indonesia, this thinking is highly relevant to review and reform various aspects of family and civil law. Reforming inheritance, marriage and divorce laws based on the principles of gender justice can enhance the protection and rights of women. Riffat Hassan's opposition to all forms of violence against women provides a theological basis for strengthening stricter legal provisions. Increasing women's participation in leadership and politics is also supported through an egalitarian re-reading of religious texts. By adopting a more inclusive approach, Islamic law in Indonesia can be more responsive to social change and create a more just and equal system for women.

Abstract

Higher education does not only focus on intellectual development, but also aims to build students' spirituality so that they are able to face academic and life challenges wisely. However, low learning motivation due to academic pressure, anxiety, and lack of awareness of spiritual values are significant problems among students at UIN Sumatera Utara Medan, especially in the Communication and Broadcasting Study Program. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach that is exploratory in nature, with an ethnographic approach, case studies, and phenomenology. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. Data processing involves the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and inductive conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that the application of spiritual intelligence values containing the principles of Maqashid Syariah has a significant impact on increasing students' learning motivation. Through the application of the values of protecting the soul (hifz an-nafs) and protecting religion (hifz ad-din), students successfully overcome mental obstacles such as anxiety and low self-confidence. In addition, students demonstrate discipline in managing time and energy, and view education as a means of worship and self-development. The application of these values not only improves academic achievement, but also forms the character of students who are more meaningful and oriented towards the good of society.

Abstract

Radicalism and Salafism in Indonesia are important issues that are closely related to the development of transnational ideology. The background to the emergence of this movement cannot be separated from the influence of globalization and technological advances, which facilitate the spread of extreme ideologies such as Wahhabism and Salafism among some Muslims. The Salafi movement, which emphasizes the purification of Islamic teachings by interpreting religious texts literally without considering the social, cultural, and historical context, has the potential to damage the pluralism and tolerance that have become the hallmarks of Indonesia. The main problem faced is the increasing radicalization that can trigger social conflict and threaten national unity. This study uses a qualitative and phenomenological approach with descriptive-analytical methods, as well as data analysis that include data reduction, data presentation, and inductive drawing of conclusions. The results of the study show that radicalism and Salafism in Indonesia developed through a transnational ideology that prioritizes a textual understanding of Islam without considering the social and cultural context. This movement risks exacerbating social tensions and threatening Indonesia's diversity. Therefore, Indonesia needs to strengthen its understanding of moderate Islam and the values of pluralism to face this challenge and maintain social harmony.

Abstract

Lampung customary inheritance system generally applies a pure patrilineal system, where sons become heirs from the father's side, while daughters have no position as heirs. However, along with the times, there have been changes in the implementation of inheritance in urban Lampung customary society, especially in Bandar Lampung City. The dynamics of this change are influenced by various factors, one of which is the increasingly common occurrence of mixed marriages. Therefore, this study aims to examine the dynamics of changes in the inheritance system by considering the various factors that influence it. This research uses a qualitative approach with a type of empirical juridical research that is analytically descriptive. Data were obtained through interviews as primary data and document analysis as secondary data. Data processing is done through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the dynamics of change in the patrilineal inheritance system in Lampung customary society in Bandar Lampung City reflected a paradigm shift that occurred gradually in response to the influence of external and internal factors, such as the environment, educational development, religious influence, and others. Although the patrilineal inheritance system is still influential, these changes lead to a fairer and more equitable distribution of inheritance, while still maintaining existing religious and customary principles, as well as respecting the philosophy of life of the Lampung people.

Abstract

The Qur'an, as the holy book of Muslims, contains scientific signs that direct humans to reflect on natural phenomena as signs of the greatness of Allah SWT. Surah Ar-Rahman, one of the surahs rich in scientific signs, invites humans to explore science and understand the universe through a scientific approach. In this context, Tantawi Jawhari, through Tafsir al-Jawahir, stands out as an interpreter with a scientific approach that connects the verses of the Qur'an with the discoveries of modern science, showing that divine revelation and science complement each other. This study is a qualitative study with a descriptive-analytical nature that uses a hermeneutic and contextual approach with data sources originating from the book Tafsir al-Jawahir and supporting literature, which are processed through the stages of identification, classification, and thematic interpretation of verses containing scientific signs with content and contextual analysis methods used to draw conclusions systematically and comprehensively. These findings confirm that Surah Ar-Rahman not only provides spiritual guidance but also offers scientific insights that encourage humans to be grateful, maintain the balance of nature, and utilize science wisely. This study concludes that the Qur'an and science complement each other, providing guidelines for a harmonious and sustainable life.
