Abstract

Purpose – This research aims to obtain information about the development and implementation of Islamic religious education curricula in inclusive schools or madrasas. An inclusive school or madrasah is an educational institution that provides opportunities for all students, including students with special needs, to study together with the help of accompanying teachers. Design/methods/approach – This study used a systematic literature review of accredited articles from 2018-2023, data collected from Google Scholar, the Science and Technology Index of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, and Scopus. Descriptive analysis techniques were used as data analysis techniques. The researcher obtained 120 articles, which further extracted and coded them using the NVivo application, and then found 25 articles that met the TAPUPAS criteria and were relevant to the research question. Findings – Based on the results of the analysis and literature review, some conclusions have been drawn. First, developing an inclusive Islamic religious education curriculum in schools or madrasas has been adjusted to the character of students with special needs and the simplification of subject matter. Meanwhile, the obstacle for Islamic teachers in developing the curriculum is the lack of knowledge to identify students with special needs and limited learning resources and media about it. Second, the implementation is in the form of the application of individual approaches, varied models and methods that have an impact on the effectiveness of learning, and visual media and assessment techniques based on basic abilities for students with special needs in inclusive schools or madrasas. Research implications/limitations – The results of this study still have limitations in the number of articles analyzed and reviewed, especially those published in Sinta 1 accredited journals. Originality/value – This study can be used as a reference for future research, which is expected to provide a more comprehensive study so that the research findings can be improved or perfect.

Abstract

Purpose – The authors aim to compare Imam Hatip School (IHS) with MAN Insan Cendekia (MAN IC), two Islamic educational institutions that have successfully implemented an Islamic religious education curriculum integrated with general science. Design/methods/approach – This study used a literature review research method that examined several sources and government documents in three languages. The data collection technique was conducted by extracting and evaluating information in articles that meet the inclusion criteria. Once extracted and evaluated, the authors analyzed and interpreted the data. Findings – The integrated curriculum of Islamic education in IHSs aims to anticipate extreme, radical understandings and rejection of the state that implements the secular system. It will form the nature and attitude of tolerance among fellow citizens, allowing it to reduce social conflicts. The IHSs has implemented the integrated Islamic education curriculum by adopting a modern education system. The implementation of the integrated PAI curriculum at MAN IC aims to eliminate the paradigm and praxis of the dichotomy of science. MAN IC adopts an integrated Islamic religious education curriculum based on the traditional Islamic system with a mandatory policy to stay at a dorm for students, where religious activities are more emphasized when students are in the dormitory. Research implications/limitations – This research still has limitations due to a limited literature review and verification study in closed terms on our respondent informants. Therefore, further research is required to deepen the examination in this study. Originality/value – The findings in this study have included the aspects of policy, strategy, content or material development, and the implementation results of the integrated PAI curriculum in the two institutions. Those aspects build a socio-cultural identity, allowing it to develop the school in the realm of progress and achievement. The expectation is that this research can become an example for the development of Islamic Education Institutions in integrating the PAI curriculum.

Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this research is to reveal the potential interest tendency of Gen Z in choosing the theme of religious studies, when Gen Z has an open character but does not want to be bound by a religious system that is too strict based on student experience. Design/methods/approach – This type of research is qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. The focus of this phenomenological research is the researcher's curiosity about students' experiences in behavior and the extent of their perceptions related to the selection of religious studies in successive time series that occur to respondents. Respondents in this study consisted of 40 students from different schools. The respondents were selected by purposive sampling. The data analysis used is based on Bogdan and Biklen's method.    Findings – The experience of students in participating in the study tends to lead to themes that are easy to enjoy such as the theme of fiqh and akhlaq. This diversity shows the openness and openness of this shows the potential for more moderation in religious views and attitudes. Research implications/limitations – Opening up knowledge is related to awareness of the importance of choosing religious studies, especially for the younger generation or known as Gen Z. Therefore, it is important to help teenagers to choose places for religious studies that do not lead to radicalism to the point of destroying proper understanding. Apart from that, the first step to start is through school. Schools should be more responsive and increase their sensitivity regarding student potential. Originality/value – This research still has limitations, especially in collecting the number of respondents. Hopefully future researchers can minimize this deficiency, and subsequent research can be more perfect. Apart from that, future researchers can also measure the extent of religious literacy in students so that the studies that can be given can be measured well.

Abstract

Purpose – The misalignment between the profile with the body of knowledge (BoK) and the graduates’ learning outcomes (LO) of the PAI Study Program has caused the unclear educational objectives of the PAI study program, requiring the reconstruction of the PAI curriculum. This study aims to examine the reconstruction process of the PAI curriculum including the Profile, BoK, and LO of the PAI. Design/methods/approach –The research was conducted qualitatively using survey, interview, and documentation methods packaged in seminars, guest lectures, workshops, and Focus Group Discussions. The subjects in this study were 83 PAI Study Program managers from Sumatra, Jakarta and Jabodetabek, DIY and Central Java, East Java, and the Eastern regions; the interviews were carried out with 15 study program managers. The obtained data was processed through the stages of reduction, display, and interpretation. Findings – The results showed: 1) there are 6 profiles of Indonesian PAI after being reduced from 51 profiles, namely PAI teachers in schools/madrasahs, educational consultants, research assistants, administrators of educational institutions, Da’i/muballigh, and edupreneurs, 2) PAI’s Body of Knowledge consists of four scientific families: PAI science (what to teach), teaching science (how to teach), education and psychology (how to discipline), Research methodology, philosophy, language, technology, edupreneur (how to produce), 3) Graduate learning outcomes include in-depth mastery of PAI science, teaching, pedagogic, and PAI development, as well as how to teach PAI science effectively. Research implications/limitations – This research has implications for the importance of preparing graduate profiles based on tracer studies, rather than based on ‘personal wishes’; and Learning outcomes must be adjusted to the standardized BoK of the Study Program. Originality/value – the importance of profile mapping based on tracer studies, the significance of PAI’s body of knowledge in achieving PAI goals, and the importance of graduate learning outcomes for the expertise of PAI graduates.
