Abstract

Purpose – This article aims to provide a new direction for Character Education in minimizing bullying and preventing moral decadence and delinquency in adolescents in the school environment with a Prophetic Parenting approach. Design/methods/approach – This research used a qualitative method of literature type by collecting literature and data from books, scientific journal articles, yellow books, and Indonesian laws and regulations to reconstruct Character Education in Indonesia that has not been effective in responding to bullying, moral decadency, and juvenile delinquency, using the Prophetic Parenting approach. Findings – The first thing that the Prophet strongly emphasized in Character Education was a prophetic character, which includes qualities such as siddiq, amanah, tabligh, and fatimah. Second, in character building, following the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, is important to prioritize the language of deeds rather than words alone. Third, the Prophet Muhammad’s approach taught strong moral and ethical principles. Parents can refer to verses in the Qur'an that emphasize the importance of behaving well, avoiding humility, and humiliating others. Fourth, parents should encourage children to be open about their experiences at school. Fifth, in overall efforts to overcome juvenile delinquency, the Prophetic Parenting approach can be a guide in shaping the character of adolescents with Islamic values and ethics. Research implications/limitations – The research has theoretical implications that, to minimize the occurrence of bullying, moral decency, and juvenile delinquency, it is necessary to apply parenting that refers to the concept of the Prophet SAW in building the character of Indonesian children toward a golden Indonesia in 2045. Originality/value – The research provides direction for incorporating the Prophetic Parenting approach into the Indonesian education curriculum in Indonesia to build Character Education that involves the family environment.

Abstract

Purpose – The Industrial Revolution 4.0, which facilitates open internet access, has presented an era of disruption in human life. The impact is the rapid dissemination of news and information in society. Using religious issues in Indonesia, the radicalism (radical movements) use this situation to spread provocations through social media. This study aims to examine deradicalization efforts through the development of intellectual traditions at the Fadhlul Fadhlan Islamic Boarding School Semarang (Pondok Pesantren Fadhlul Fadhlan Semarang). Design/methods/approach – This research is a qualitative field research with a case study approach. Field data were obtained through observation, documentation, and interview techniques on two groups of resource persons, boarding school caregivers (Kiyai, Bu Nyai) and 20 students. Findings – Deradicalization efforts at the Fadhlul Fadhlan Islamic Boarding School are carried out without any social frictions, namely by developing digitalization of pesantren traditions, such as creating content for yellow book recitation, halaqah, and seminars. These activities can be accessed not only by students but also by the general public through Pesantren's digital media like YouTube and Facebook. Research implications/limitations – This study provides a scientific contribution that has a significant impact on the learning development in Islamic boarding schools in the disruption era. However, some limitations still exist, such as limited research places, namely only conducted in one Islamic boarding school. Therefore, similar research needs to be carried out in other Islamic boarding schools to strengthen or develop deradicalization models in Islamic boarding schools. Originality/value – Digital technology has a significant role in the dynamics of Salaf Islamic boarding schools (pesantren salaf). These findings contribute to the discourse of education in Islamic boarding schools that can adapt to modern educational paradigms. From this discourse, it was found that the integration of Islamic boarding schools with modern technology can be a means of massive deradicalization.

Abstract

Purpose - This study aims to determine the learning rate of Islamic religious education in the new-normal era after the COVID-19 pandemic in the coastal areas of Serang Regency. The constantly growing use of information technology has made most students reluctant to go to school. Design/methods/approach – This study is qualitative research. This research approach is descriptive. The data collection techniques used were observation, interview, and documentation. The number of informants in this study included students, teachers, and the community as parents of students. The respondent selection technique used purposive sampling, where the number of informants was 90% of the total sample. Findings - The findings in this study have included the use of a home visit strategy for post-pandemic learning continuity, where most students were reluctant to go to school and many students were contaminated with online games. The home visit method is a real form of visiting students one by one to provide understanding to parents and students about online learning, as well as a form of direct monitoring of the student learning process. Research implications/limitations – This research highlights how the educational process of the new normal era after the COVID-19 pandemic was in the coastal area of Serang Regency. Supposedly, the coastal area is a geographical location far from urban conditions, making the infrastructure aspect still very limited. Originality/value - This study presents the serious impact that occurred in the coastal area of Serang Regency when the learning process took place after the COVID-19 pandemic. Ranging from the personal pick-up strategy to numerous students who were reluctant to go to school to many students who were contaminated by online games.

Abstract

Purpose – The study aims to analyze the relationship between spirituality and academic stress among medical students. Design/method/approach – This study is field research with 225 subjects from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah (n = 115) and YARSI University (n = 110). The data collection instrument used two psychological scales, namely the spirituality scale and the stress scale. The data were analyzed using regression analysis techniques. Findings – The results showed that most students tended to experience moderate stress (n = 134), however, the number of students who experienced severe stress was greater than those with mild stress (n = 53 ‘severe stress’ > n = 38 ‘mild stress'). These results indicate that students should have a self-defense mechanism, namely spirituality. Moreover, the study found that spirituality had a significant negative relation with stress in medical students (r = -0.123, p = 0.00 and R2 = 0.263). It means that the higher the student’s spirituality, the lower the level of academic stress. The significance of the relationship between spirituality and academic stress has confirmed that spirituality in medical students serves as a form of self-protection mechanism to deal with factors that can trigger academic stress. However, the contribution of spirituality to stress was only 26.3%, while the rest (73.7%) were influenced by other variables outside this study. Low r and R2 scores also indicated that in dealing with academic stress, students rely not only on internal defense resources but also on external social and environmental supports. Research implications/limitations – This research has implications for promoting prevention programs designed by universities to improve the student’s ability to overcome obstacles during their medical learning process, such as involving the dimension of spirituality in managing the mental well-being of medical students in dealing with academic pressure. Originality/value – This research has significance in providing additional understanding of the positive impact of spirituality on the context of learning. The findings of this study have emphasized the importance of educational institutions paying attention to student self-protection mechanisms to prevent personal difficulties. The results showed that spirituality has a significant role in relieving stress in medical students.

Abstract

Purpose - The purpose of this study is to explain the effect of the Hybrid-Generative Learning implementation on learning outcomes, creative thinking ability, and student learning interest.  Desain/methode - This study used a pseudo-experimental method with a nonrandom control design of the pretest-posttest group. The population of this study was all grade 7 students in the even semester at Sekolah Menengah Pertama Negeri (SMPN) 01 Ngunut, Tulungagung. The sample of this study was four (4) classes that were deliberately selected from a total of six (6) classes that attended Islamic religious education subjects. Findings - The average learning outcomes of students in the experimental class were better than those in the control class (67,523 > 57,028). Students in the experimental class had better creative thinking skills compared to the control class (70,387 > 53,633). The average learning interest of students in the experimental class had a higher interest in learning compared to the control class (37,378 > 29,441). The information shows that students who receive Hybrid Generative Learning have learning outcomes, creative thinking skills and learning interests are much higher than students in other classes. Research Implications/limitation - The use of hybrid-generative learning models on other parameters requires further development for future research to reveal positive results on some of the more comprehensive models. Similarly, the duration of time ideally needs to be longer for different learnings. Originality/value - Studies of hybrid-generative learning models have been conducted by several researchers in Indonesia. However, they only focused on developing this model for students' thinking and metacognitive skills. Therefore, this study is genuine, new, and can be a scientific reference.

Abstract

Purpose – Character cultivation and development is a major study in modern education today. Islamic character education has become one of the interesting topics in the discussion. This study examines data mapping and networking about Islamic character education in the Scopus journal database. Design/methods/approach – This study used a descriptive qualitative method with a total of 204 selected articles related to Islamic character education. All the published journals have a publication range of the last 13 years, from 2010 to 2023. The authors exported data through software and then processed and analyzed them by using VOSviewer software to find networking maps based on co-author, co-occurrence, and co-citation. Findings – The study results found three significant themes related to the object and results of Islamic character education research, publishers who publish journals, and theoretical citations used by researchers of Islamic character education article journals. Of the three results, the first point related to publication documents is dominated by countries with majority Muslim populations, namely Indonesia and Malaysia. Meanwhile, the second and third points are dominated by Western countries. Another important finding in this study was the keywords found have used many words, such as character education, Islamic education, religion, and Islamic religious education. Research implications/limitations – The results of this study still have limitations on the number of limited publications, subjectivity in analyzing efforts, and incomplete analysis programs. Originality/value – This research can be a reference for future research that is expected to be more comprehensive in designing the research design so as to produce more complete findings.

Abstract

Purpose – The lack of information on the Merdeka Belajar and Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum has made students not take the MBKM programs. The study aims to determine to what extent the relation between PAI students' understanding of the Merdeka Belajar – Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) curriculum policy implemented at Islamic Religious Universities (PTKI) and the fulfillment of PAI students' learning rights. Design/methods/approach – The type of research used is quantitative research with a correlational survey design. Data collection was conducted using a questionnaire containing 49 questions, where all questions were validated and the results were reliable. From a population of 650 students from 15 PTKI, 152 Islamic religious education students were taken as respondents. The collected data was analyzed using simple linear regression analysis. Findings – The analysis results obtained a value of r = 0.932 and a significance value of 0.00 (p < 0.05). The R Square (R2) result was 0.869, showing that 86.9% of PAI students can understand the concept of the MBKM curriculum at PTKI well so that there is a decision-making relation to take the learning rights of PAI students. Research implications/limitations – This research is limited to understanding the concept of the MBKM curriculum. Therefore, further research is expected to reach the implementation stage of the MBKM curriculum. In addition, policymakers should consider expanding the implementation of Merdeka Curriculum programs to a broader scale. Originality/value – The study results have proved the PAI students' ability to understand the concept of the MBKM curriculum related to the fulfillment of their learning rights. Most PAI students can understand the basic concepts of the MBKM curriculum. However, there are still some PAI students who do not understand holistically, requiring treatment to improve their understanding of the MBKM curriculum concept.
