Abstract

Abstract

Speaking is one of the fundamental yet difficult skills for English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners to master. This study investigates the most significant sources of demotivation among English speaking class students using a mixed-method approach through the distribution of Likert-scale questionnaires and semi-structured interviews to 35 first-year students of an Indonesian English Education Study Program. The findings reveal four general areas of demotivating factors: psychological-emotional, pedagogical-instructional, social-classroom environment, and institutional-technological. Psychological barriers such as fear of mistake, lack of confidence, and fear of peer judgment were revealed as the most salient. Pedagogical issues, particularly a lack of clear evaluation criteria and constructive feedback, also emerged as major contributory factors. Socially, while the majority of students liked group class activities, fear of criticism from peers still influenced their willingness to speak. Technical problems in online learning—i.e., unstable internet, no access to digital devices, and lack of familiarity with virtual communication—also demotivated students' speaking. The study concludes that speaking demotivation is multifaceted in nature and requires holistic solutions addressing both internal learner factors and external learning environments. Recommendations are given to instructors and institutions on how to develop more positive, engaging, and confidence-building speaking classes, both face-to-face and online. Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the 11% VAT, basic commodity prices, and household income interact and shape the consumption behavior of residents. This study employs a descriptive approach and quantitative analysis with 96 household respondents in Bojonegoro City, analyzing the relationship between the 11% VAT, prices of basic necessities, and income on consumer behavior using a questionnaire assessed with a Likert scale. The study found that the 11% VAT and prices of primary commodities have a significant and positive influence on the consumption behavior of residents in Bojonegoro Regency, while income has no impact. However, in the F-test, the variables studied were found to contribute significantly to shaping the consumption behavior of the community. The findings of this study are intended to serve as a basis for the government, business community, and society in formulating adaptive strategies in response to changes in economic conditions.

Abstract

This study uses a correlational research method, which aims to determine whether there is a significant relationship between motivation and reading comprehension among students at the University of Riau Islands. The participants were 20 students at Universitas Riau Kepulauan, specifically in the English Education Study Program. The study focused on sixth-semester students, as they are expected to have more experience in reading academic texts and are more likely to show clear patterns of motivation and reading comprehension. In this study, two measurement tools were used: a questionnaire and a reading test administered by the teacher to measure students' reading motivation and reading comprehension. In analyzing the data, the questionnaire was scored using a Likert scale. The Shapiro-Wilk test confirmed normal data distribution, and Pearson’s Product-Moment Correlation analysis revealed a negligible negative relationship (r = -0.021, p = 0.930), indicating no significant correlation between motivation and reading comprehension. These results suggest that although motivation is still a crucial aspect of learning, it might not have a direct impact on reading comprehension in this particular situation. In order to obtain deeper insights, future research is encouraged to examine this link using larger samples and a wider range of methodologies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the Human Development Index (HDI) on economic growth in Bojonegoro Regency. The HDI is measured through three main components, namely Average Length of Schooling (ALS), Life Expectancy (LE), and Per Capita Expenditure (PCE), which reflect the quality of education, health, and the standard of living of the community. This study uses secondary data from 2009 to 2023 obtained from the Central Statistics Agency. The analysis method used is multiple linear regression to test the influence of each independent variable on economic growth, measured through the Regional Domestic Product (RDP) at constant prices. The results indicate that the average years of schooling and life expectancy variables have no significant impact on economic growth, with positive and negative directions, respectively. Conversely, the per capita expenditure variable has a significant and positive impact on economic growth in Bojonegoro Regency. This finding underscores that aspects of consumption and purchasing power play a dominant role in driving regional economic growth. This study has important implications for the formulation of regional development policies, particularly in improving the quality of education and health services and strengthening the purchasing power of the community.

Abstract

This study examines how person–organization fit (P–O Fit) shapes employee engagement by considering the mediating role of organizational climate within a regional manufacturing setting in Indonesia. Drawing on the Attraction–Selection–Attrition framework, Social Information Processing theory, and the Job Demands–Resources model, the research positions value congruence and shared workplace perceptions as central psychological mechanisms influencing employee motivation. Using a census-based sample of 65 employees from a mineral-water production company in West Kalimantan, the study employed WarpPLS 8.0 to evaluate both the measurement and structural models. The findings indicate that P–O Fit enhances employees’ perceptions of organizational climate and directly contributes to higher engagement, while organizational climate itself emerges as a strong predictor of engagement and partially mediates the link between P–O Fit and engagement. These results highlight the importance of alignment and climate-building practices in manufacturing environments, particularly in resource-constrained and regionally based organizations. The study contributes to the growing body of literature on engagement in emerging contexts and emphasizes that psychological and relational factors remain critical drivers of motivation even in highly structured industrial settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of land area and coffee production on Indonesian coffee export volume, focusing on the five largest coffee-producing provinces: South Sumatra, Lampung, North Sumatra, Aceh, and Bengkulu. The method used was a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis using EViews 10. The sample was purposively selected based on the highest coffee production in these provinces. The results show that land area negatively affects Indonesian coffee export volume, while coffee production has a positive effect. Simultaneously, these two variables contribute significantly to the variation in coffee export volume, accounting for 83.18%. This finding indicates that the increase in coffee export volume is more influenced by production effectiveness than land area alone. Therefore, the results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for the government in managing the coffee plantation sector to increase productivity and Indonesian coffee export volume.
