Abstract

The present study demonstrated that the "Contextual Transformative Ethics" model facilitates the integration of Islamic ethical values into contemporary governance practices, thereby enhancing national commitment and tolerance in Papua through the "Rembuk Amanah" mechanism, which respects local traditions. This research paper examined the synergy between Islamic ethics and modern governance in the implementation of a mental revolution in the Papua Religious Affairs Office through an analysis of value-based institutional transformation. This study addresses a significant gap in the extant literature on ethics in bureaucratic practice. While there are numerous studies on the subject, there is a paucity of specific models that integrate Islamic ethical values with modern governance approaches in diverse socio-cultural contexts, such as Papua. The objective of this study is to identify a model of adaptation of Islamic ethical values into modern bureaucratic practices, with a focus on the social and cultural conditions of Papuan society. The data collection process entailed participatory observation in five KUA, in-depth interviews with 24 respondents, including officials, staff, and service users, as well as the analysis of policy documents and operational records of institutions during the period 2020-2024. The analysis employed Tariq Ramadan's contemporary Islamic ethics theoretical framework, Ostrom-Basurto's adaptive governance model, and George-Sim's authentic leadership approach through the stages of reconciliation, presentation, and data construction. The research findings revealed the unique phenomenon of "Rembuk Amanah" as a cultural negotiation mechanism between Islamic values and local wisdom. Furthermore, the identification of the "Agent of Change" group, which has developed a digital-based service system while maintaining a traditional personal touch, was noted. The research yielded a model of "Contextual Transformative Ethics" and the concept of "Responsive-Adaptive Governance," which describes the dynamic interaction between bureaucratic structures, ethical values, and cultural contexts in institutional transformation. The study's limitations stem from its narrow geographical scope and cross-sectional design, which precludes a comprehensive analysis of long-term change.

Abstract

This study explores the comparative implementation (substance, form, and interpretation) of Islamic family regulation in Indonesia and Saudi Arabia through the lens of Maqāṣid al-Sharī’ah. This research paper aims to reveal how the two countries differ in presenting the normativity (in terms of substance, form, and interpretation) of the regulation. This study uses primary sources from legal documents and academic literature, as well as qualitative data. In-depth analysis shows that the flexibility and rigidity of regulation in both countries are based on the principles of justice and social protection, although the methods of manifestation are different. The main findings indicate that although Saudi Arabia is known for its strict regulation, there is a courtroom that considers individual conditions, while Indonesia shows legal initiatives to address social challenges. The novelty of this study lies in the emphasis that Islamic regulation can adapt to contemporary contexts without losing the essence of Sharī’ah despite geographical differences. Limitations of the study include the lack of detailed field case studies, prompting further research directions to link law to social manifestations directly. Suggestions for further research include deeper qualitative analysis of the application of law in more diverse social contexts. This research adds a new dimension to the study of Islamic law as a dynamic and responsive, yet responsible, instrument.

Abstract

This study focuses on the digital readiness of lecturers at Islamic Religious Colleges (PTKI) in Jakarta and Banten in the context of Digital Scholarchy. The purpose of the study is twofold: firstly, to explore the attitudes and knowledge of lecturers regarding the use of digital technology, and secondly, to identify the digital literacy gaps among them. The data collection method uses questionnaires, interviews, and documentation to provide a more rigid and focused picture. The data analysis utilizes a range of approaches, including the Digital Readiness and Attitude Framework, the Technology Acceptance Model, and the Digital Literacy Framework, to uncover factors that influence the digital readiness of lecturers. The study's findings indicate that although there are positive attitudes towards technology, its understanding and practical use are still limited, resulting in a digital divide within the academic environment. The study's conclusions provide scientific contributions in the form of new understandings of the interplay between technology, culture, and psychology in the context of higher education by suggesting further research to explore the impact of socialization programs, training, and mentoring in the future. This study is the basis for formulating policies that are more adaptive and responsive to the needs of lecturers at PTKI Jakarta and Banten in this digital and disruptive era. The implications of this research highlight the need to develop training and mentoring programs to improve the digital skills of lecturers at PTKI Jakarta and Banten. These findings can also help build more adaptive policies and support changes in higher education in the digital era.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to examine the themes of redemption and heroism in two Arabic fairy tales, "Al-Najm al-Kabīr" and "Fī Jazīrah al-Nūr," and their implications for sustainable development. The research aimed to investigate how the protagonist's journey in these fairy tales reflected Arab societal values and personal growth. The data collection method employed a thematic analysis approach and narrative theory, with two Arabian fairytales serving as the primary sources. The research findings indicated that these tales were not only entertaining but also demonstrated profound moral values and their relevance to the current cultural and social context. The conclusions of this research emphasise the significance of fairy tales as agents of positive social and cultural change. The scientific contribution of this research is a novel understanding of the role of fairy tales in the education of universal values and moral awareness. The limitations of the study include a narrow focus on specific Arabian fairytales and a particular theoretical approach, which suggests further research with a broader scope and integration of cross-disciplinary approaches. Suggestions for further research include deepening understanding of how fairy tales can support sustainable development goals through moral education and environmental awareness in a global society.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of viral humanitarian imagery, focusing on the AI-generated image campaign with the hashtag #AllEyesonRafah on global social media dynamics. It explores how the imagery influences public awareness and encourages responses to humanitarian issues in Rafah, Palestine. The study aims to identify a pattern linking social media use to social mobilization driven by humanitarian imagery. Data were collected through analysis of digital content posted by public figures and humanitarian organizations, employing a qualitative approach informed by relevant communication theories. Primary sources included posts by public figures such as Bella Hadid, Ariana Grande, and Paramore, which significantly increased engagement. The analysis integrates three theories: Mark Granovetter’s Social Network Theory to examine the viral spread of AI-generated imagery on platforms like X, Instagram, and TikTok; Stuart Hall’s Representation Theory to analyze global public interpretations of these images; and Marshall McLuhan’s “Medium is the Message” Theory to assess how social media platforms and visual formats shape perception of the Rafah crisis. Findings indicate that viral humanitarian imagery not only raises awareness but also drives tangible global audiences. The study confirms social media’s role as an agent of social change, with its novelty lying in the detailed explanation of emotions in visual communication. The limitations of this study include the focus on one aspect of social media and the lack of longitudinal analysis, while suggestions for further research include a broader exploration of audience interactions and offline dimensions of similar phenomena.

Abstract

The "All Eyes on Rafah" campaign, featuring an AI-generated image of a refugee tent formation spelling out the campaign's name, has emerged as a pivotal instance of global digital advocacy. This study examines the campaign in the context of Israel's devastating bombing of Palestinian refugee tents in Rafah, which resulted in significant civilian casualties. The research investigates how digital media and AI-generated imagery shape international humanitarian responses. Employing a qualitative, descriptive, and interdisciplinary approach, the study analyzes primary data sources through various theoretical frameworks, including viral images and news reports. The findings illuminate the transformative role of digital advocacy in influencing global perceptions and mobilizing humanitarian action, highlighting the potential of AI in such campaigns. This research contributes valuable insights to the media, political communication, and international relations fields. However, it is limited by its focus on a single case, indicating the necessity for further exploration of AI's broader implications in media and communication. Keywords: Humanitarian Crisis; Digital Advocacy; All Eyes on Rafah; Campaign.

Abstract

This study examined the ways in which Muslim communities in DKI Jakarta have adapted and demonstrated resilience in the context of environmental challenges. This study focuses on the adaptation strategies developed by Muslim communities in response to environmental disturbances, including flooding, pollution, and water quality degradation. To investigate these strategies, the study employs theoretical approaches drawn from the fields of socio-ecological resilience, climate justice, and urban green infrastructure. The research methods employed included a qualitative analysis of environmental policies, community practices, and adaptive responses. The findings indicated that the resilience of these communities was underpinned by robust religious values, social cohesion, and pioneering adaptation strategies. The implementation of urban green infrastructure has been demonstrated to enhance the adaptive capacity of communities in response to climate change. Furthermore, this study underscored the necessity for the equitable distribution of environmental benefits in order to safeguard vulnerable communities. One limitation of this study was that its analysis was predominantly qualitative and focused on Muslim communities in DKI Jakarta. The findings of this study made a significant scientific contribution by demonstrating that a holistic approach that integrated social, cultural, and ecological aspects could effectively enhance community resilience to climate change. Additional research is required to test this hypothesis in diverse contexts with a more comprehensive quantitative approach.

Abstract

This research paper examines the role of Islamic social welfare in addressing inequality and enhancing social cohesion in Daerah Khusus Jakarta (DKJ). Using a descriptive qualitative approach, this study analyzes official statistical data from DK Jakarta in 2022-2024 through the theoretical framework of Putnam's social capital, Crenshaw's intersectionality, and Foster-Iaione's urban commons. Key findings reveal the effectiveness of the zakat-waqf network in mitigating the impact of inflation, reducing it from 3.30% (2022) to 1.98% (2024). Mosques act as centers of socio-economic innovation through programs such as "Jumu'at Berbagi" and "Digital Sharia Cooperatives". The intersectional approach in the "Ta'lim Muyassar" program effectively addresses the complexity of educational inequality. The concept of Islamic-based urban commons creates a participatory city governance model. This study produces an adaptive Islamic social welfare model, introduces "Urban Fiqh", and develops an "Islamic Urban Well-being" index. Limitations of the study include a limited geographic focus and a lack of longitudinal data. Further research is suggested to conduct comparative studies across cities and explore blockchain integration in the zakat-waqf system.
