Abstract

Global neoliberalism and rapid urbanization have transformed cities worldwide, redefining social life and religious identities. In Jakarta, Indonesia’s capital, these forces have intensified through economic growth, migration, and global connectivity, challenging the Muslim majority to sustain their faith within a consumerist and market-driven urban order. This study aims to analyze how neoliberal policies and globalization shape the social and cultural dynamics of Muslims in Jakarta and how they negotiate and adapt their identities amid modern urban transformation. Employing a qualitative descriptive design, this research relies on literature review and document analysis of official statistical reports and scholarly works on Jakarta’s socio-economic context. Data were analyzed thematically following Mezmir’s framework, involving coding, theme clustering, and narrative construction to interpret the relationship between urban transformation, neoliberalism, and Muslim identity. The findings reveal that Muslim identity in Jakarta is not eroded but hybridized—integrating Islamic ethics with modern practices such as digital zakat, halal lifestyle consumption, and mosque-based social welfare systems. These adaptations show resilience, creativity, and negotiation between religious tradition and global modernity. The implication of this study is the need for inclusive urban policies that protect religious practices, promote social equity, and strengthen community solidarity amid neoliberal pressures.

Abstract

This research examines a crucial problem in women's fiqh education at Madrasah Aliyah: the dominance of normative-textual approaches that provide minimal space for critical dialogue on contemporary social dynamics and female identity. The study aims to design an integrated learning model for women's fiqh through a combination of Islamic Gender Education Theory, Inquiry-Based Learning, and Islamic Character Strengthening Philosophy. Data collection methods included online surveys via Google Forms, analysis of Grade XI fiqh textbooks, and examination of the classical text Ris?lah al-Ma???. Data analysis employed three theoretical frameworks: Sharia contextualism according to Zainah Anwar, inquiry cycle theory by Margus Pedaste, and personality transformation philosophy by Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas.Research findings reveal that although the majority of students perceive menstrual regulations as fair, their understanding remains static without critical reflection on cultural and gender contexts. The integration of these three approaches proved effective in creating a more participatory, inclusive, and meaningful learning experience. The study concludes that a paradigm shift is necessary—from information transfer to transformative educational processes. Research limitations include a narrow geographical scope and a predominantly female respondent base. The novelty of this research lies in its multi-dimensional integration approach, which has not been widely explored in academic literature. Recommendations for future research include direct implementation testing across diverse regions and the development of specific Islamic character assessment instruments tailored to women's fiqh education contexts. This model is expected to serve as an alternative learning approach that is more responsive to the needs and social realities of contemporary Muslim women, bridging traditional Islamic scholarship with modern pedagogical methodologies while maintaining religious authenticity and promoting gender-sensitive understanding

Abstract

This study focuses on the understanding of hadith on social ethics among generation Z, adopting a living hadith approach. The main objective of this study is to identify how the teachings of hadith are applied in daily social interactions, including on social media. The data collection method was carried out through a questionnaire distributed online, while data analysis used a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches. Primary sources consisted of relevant hadiths that were used as references by respondents in developing morality. The results indicate that the majority of respondents recognise the significance of honesty and politeness, with 72.8% incorporating these principles into their social interactions. The study's novel contribution lies in its exploration of generation Z's distinctive integration of religious teachings with intricate social realities. The study's limitations include its restricted scope and reliance on quantitative data, necessitating further research to develop a more in-depth qualitative approach. The study opens up new opportunities in discussions about the application of religious ethics in a modern context, which can provide implications for moral education among adolescents.

Abstract

This paper seeks to highlight the similarities and differences of science, Islam, and the philosophy of science. The discussion of this paper begins with the assignment of definitions of these three topics. The next discussion is the concept of the three such as the three components of science and the four requirements or rules of science; teachings and objectives of Islam; and the two tasks, objects, and benefits of the philosophy of science. The relation between science and philosophy of science is evidenced from the structure of objectivity, the subjectivity of scientists, and the efforts of control or judgment. The relationship between religion and philosophy of science can be seen from the dominance of morality in the ideal imagination as a standard of product, attitude, and activity. Another proof of the relationship between Islam and the philosophy of science is the variant of Islamic epistemology in the form of bayānī, burhānī, and 'irfānī. The relationship between science and religion of Islam is reflected in the appreciation of al-Qur'ān and al-Ḥadīth which is responded by the presence of religious educational institutions primordially.

Abstract

This article aims to comprehensively reveal the method of Tafsir al-Maudu’iy in Al-Fatihah Verse. The article adheres to conventional academic structure and employs clear, objective, and value-neutral language. The object of this study is Karim Amsansaf’s Suratu al-Fatihah: Tafsir Maudu’iy fi Daui ‘Ibadati al-Du’ai, Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-’Aziz al-’Awajiy’s al-Tafsir al-Maudu’iy al-Muyassar li al-Fatihah wa Qasari al-Mufassali, and the book titled Ila al Qur’an al-Karim, written by Muhammad al-Ghazali and Mahamud Shaltut, attempts to examine various legacies of tafsir works that are rarely researched by the public. An examination of the three tafsir shows differences in their interpretive products, with a focus on revealing in-depth thematic aspects on the intrinsic and extrinsic side, as stated by Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-’Aziz al-’Awajiy. The text discusses the principles of thematic interpretation in Tafsir Maudu’iy, with a focus on the thematics expressed by Karim Amsansaf. The discussion is aimed at beginner readers or lay people and is presented in a simple manner. The text also mentions the use of the thematic tafsir method and its application to the interpretation of Al-Fatihah.

Abstract

In an effort to avoid the negative effects of modern globalization on the existence of a scientific discipline, such as the science of Arabic, it is important to make Arabic contribute to presenting Arabic as a medium in photographing various social phenomena of modern society. This study presents a systematic literature review on the topic of 'Arabic Language as a Window in Viewing the World.' It is based on the primary source dissertation 'Literature and Nationalism: A Study of the Poems of Mahjar 'Alī Aḥmad Bākathīr' by Minatur Rokhim (2021). The purpose of this systematic literature review (SLR) is to reconstruct the theoretical and practical understanding of Arabic as a window for viewing the world. This will be achieved by analysing the substance and principles of the dissertation. This study concludes that incorporating environmental needs and interests, both locally and nationally, can position Arabic language knowledge as an asset in promoting global unification in a scientific, applied, and commercial manner.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the effective role of multidisciplinary perspectives in the study of women’s fiqh. Data collection methods included a questionnaire to 112 Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) Buleleng and one of Madrasahs Aliyah Negeri (MAN) Jakarta (whose name was not mentioned based on the request of the Head of the Madrasah in Jakarta) students, in-depth interviews, and analysis of Fiqh textbook documentation. Data were analyzed using a theoretical framework that combines Ahmed's Islamic feminism, Ainscow's inclusive education, and Crenshaw's intersectionality. Key findings reveal a gap between theoretical acceptance of menstrual rules (91.1%) and their practical implementation (82.1%), as well as the lack of representation of feminist and intersectional perspectives in the official curriculum. This study contributes to the development of a new analytical framework that integrates three theoretical approaches to understand the complexity of teaching women's fiqh. Limitations of the study include a limited sample size and a narrow focus on the issue of menstruation. Further research is recommended to expand the geographic scope, explore other aspects of women's fiqh, and conduct longitudinal studies to understand the long-term impact of women's understanding of fiqh on students' religious and social practices.

Abstract

This study focuses on the economic policy strategies implemented by Trump and their implications for economic reform in Indonesia, while also uncovering the multidimensional and complex interactions between foreign policy and its impact on the domestic economy. The purpose of this study is to understand the influence of Donald Trump's economic decisions on public behavior, as well as their suitability to policies in Indonesia. The data collection method was carried out using a qualitative approach, using literature studies and analysis of the applicable policy context. The data were analyzed through interdisciplinary nuances that include Public Choice Theory, Behavioral Economics, and Sustainable Economic Development, each of which provides thematic-impressive and case-impactful insights into the dynamics of policy and public response. Primary sources used in this study include academic reports, news articles, and analysis from experts in the field of political economy. The research findings prove that economic policies in the US can trigger sentiments and behavioral patterns that directly affect Indonesian society, especially in the context of dissatisfaction with local policies. The conclusion of this analysis boldly asserts that economic reform in Indonesia needs to capitalize on existing psychological and social factors. The novelty of this research is seen in the development of an analytical framework that links foreign economic policy with broader public responses, as well as the importance of public involvement in the decision-making process. Limitations of this research include the lack of specific quantitative data, and further research is recommended to explore the interaction between policies from other countries and their impacts on Indonesian society more holistically, both directly and indirectly.

Abstract

The main issue addressed in this research is the impact of the US-China trade war on the application of Islamic law in Indonesia, particularly from the perspectives of Jināyah, Aḥwāl al-Shakhṣiyyah, and Islamic Economic Law. This study aims to understand how Islamic law can provide a relevant framework for addressing this trade conflict's social and economic challenges. The methods employed include qualitative analysis, with data obtained through literature studies and observations of social phenomena within the community. The research findings indicate that the trade war has triggered an increase in economic crimes and disrupted social family structures, while highlighting the importance of applying Sharia principles to mitigate these negative impacts. The limitations of this study lie in the lack of in-depth quantitative data and the representation of the perspectives of all involved stakeholders. However, this research offers novelty by integrating legal theories of Islam within the context of a dynamic global economy, as well as providing practical, Sharia-based alternative solutions. Further research is recommended to utilize quantitative approaches and surveys to explore broader community perspectives. By involving various societal elements, a more holistic view of the impact of this trade war is expected, leading to more effective and sustainable policy strategies. This study significantly contributes to the development of Islamic law studies by addressing contemporary challenges faced by Indonesian society within a global context.
