Abstract

Depression is a common mental illness among older people. Earlier research has proven that poor social support is a major risk indicator for later-life depression. The present research has a goal of analyzing the relationship between support from friends and depressive symptoms among older people living at social institutions. A descriptive correlational design was used with a total sampling method. The population subjected to the research was 44 older people who lived at the Tresna Werdha Social Home Wisma Kartika Yatira. A structured questionnaire to rate support from friends was applied, containing validated items to assess both perceived and provided support. The results indicated that 25 respondents had moderate levels of support from their friends, whereas 19 had poor levels of support from their friends. Regarding depression, 23 respondents had no signs of depression, and 21 had slight signs of depression. There was a statistically significant relationship between support from their friends and depression (r = 0,722, p = 0.000). The evidence indicates that levels of support from their friends are linked with higher levels of depressive signs. From the findings, a proposal is made to adopt the SMB (Sharing Motivation Together) intervention—a peer-based intervention aimed at promoting mutual encouragement, emotional attachment, and activity among older persons at institutional settings.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the most effective type and dosage of nitrogen fertilizer in cocoa nurseries and to evaluate the level of nitrogen absorption by cocoa seedlings with various types and dosages of nitrogen fertilizer. This study was conducted at the Experimental House of the Plantation Crop Cultivation Study Program, Pontianak State Polytechnic. The method used was a non-factorial Randomized Block Design (RAK). The experiment consisted of 10 treatments, each repeated 3 (three) times, resulting in a total of 30 experimental units. Each unit consisted of two plants, resulting in a total of 60 plants. The parameters observed in this study included plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, plant fresh weight, plant dry weight, and nitrogen absorption. The type and dosage of nitrogen fertilizer significantly affected plant height, leaf area, and nitrogen absorption. The highest nitrogen absorption rate in cocoa plants was obtained with nitrate fertilizer at a dose of 2.07 g N, resulting in an absorption value of 10.51%. Urea, ZA, and Calcium Nitrate fertilizers at a dose of 1.38 g N were found to be the most effective and recommended, as the use of smaller amounts of fertilizers produced results that were not significantly different compared to the use of Urea, ZA, and Calcium Nitrate at a dose of 2.07 g N.

Abstract

The growth of areca nut (Areca catechu L.) seedlings in peat soil media often faces challenges due to the low nutrient content and less favorable chemical properties of the soil. This study aims to analyze the effect of applying areca nut husk compost and urea fertilizer on the growth of areca nut seedlings in peat soil media. The research was conducted using a factorial randomized complete block design (RCBD) with two factors. The first factor was the dosage of compost (K) with five levels: 0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, and 1 kg. The second factor was the dosage of urea fertilizer (N) with four levels: 0.0, 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5 g. The results showed no interaction between the application of areca nut husk compost and urea fertilizer on plant height, stem diameter, and the number of leaves. However, the independent effect of areca nut husk compost significantly influenced the increase in height, stem base diameter, and the number of leaves in areca nut seedlings. Urea fertilizer had a significant effect on the increase in plant height and stem base diameter but did not significantly affect the increase in the number of leaves. The best application dosage for areca nut husk compost was 1 kg, which resulted in the greatest increase in plant height, stem diameter, and the number of leaves. The best urea fertilizer dosage for plant height increase was 4.5 g, while a dosage of 3 g produced the best increase in stem base diameter.

Abstract

As an educational institution catering to children of Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) who are characterized by a rich tapestry of cultural, tribal, racial, and religious backgrounds, alongside a spectrum of socio-economic challenges and legal uncertainties regarding their presence in the host nation, Sekolah Indonesia Kota Kinabalu (SIKK), Malaysia, underscores the critical necessity for inclusive educational practices. This study examines the implementation of multi-tiered inclusive learning management across elementary, junior high, and senior high school levels, focusing particularly on students with special needs. The research aims to evaluate planning, execution, and support mechanisms in fostering equitable educational opportunities. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. Findings reveal that SIKK has successfully implemented inclusive practices at the elementary level, including differentiated curricula, ongoing teacher training, and additional learning resources. However, inclusive practices at the junior high and senior high school levels are less effective, largely due to resource limitations, particularly the lack of special education teachers, with only one currently available. Challenges include insufficient resources, inadequate technical support, and differing perceptions of inclusion among stakeholders. Despite these obstacles, SIKK demonstrates significant efforts in inclusive education, underscoring the need for comprehensive policies and sustained government support. This research offers a novel perspective on the management of inclusive education within a multicultural and resource-limited context, highlighting the significance of collaborative engagement among multiple stakeholders and the need for contextually informed strategies to ensure sustainable implementation within the framework of Indonesian schools abroad, which face markedly intricate challenges.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the Project Based Learning (PBL) method in improving learning outcomes on the material of Cultivating Good Morals in Neighborhood and Community Life at MIS Miftahul Huda, Bajulan Village, Saradan District, Madiun Regency. The research method used is classroom action research (CAR) with a qualitative and quantitative approach. The subjects of the study were MIS Miftahul Huda students who participated in learning with the PBL method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, learning outcome tests, and documentation. The results showed that the application of the PBL method significantly improved students' understanding of the material, social skills, and their attitudes in interacting with the community. With project-based learning, students are more active in understanding the concept of good morals and applying them in everyday life. In addition, this method also encourages students to work together, think critically, and increase their sense of responsibility in their social environment. Based on these findings, the PBL method can be used as an effective learning strategy in moral education, because it provides a more contextual and applicable learning experience. Thus, PBL contributes to forming better student characters in interacting with their social environment.

Abstract

The majority of residents in Punggur Kapuas are engaged in farming, primarily in horticulture and food crops, making agriculture a pivotal economic sector in the region. However, a significant issue has been the heavy reliance on chemical pesticides and fertilizers, which not only pose environmental risks but also indicate a lack of knowledge regarding sustainable and eco-friendly farming practices. The continuous use of chemical inputs has led to soil and water pollution, as well as disruptions to the natural ecosystem. To combat these challenges, this initiative focuses on training and educating farmers in the production of natural botanical pesticides and organic compost. The project encompasses needs analysis, collaborative design, outreach and training, monitoring, and financial analysis to compare the costs of natural alternatives with chemical inputs. The training component covers two main aspects: the production of botanical pesticides using readily available natural materials such as papaya leaves and garlic, and the creation of organic compost from organic waste. Compost production has a host of benefits, including improved soil fertility and reduced dependence on harmful chemical fertilizers. The method used is by counseling, discussion and direct practice in the field. The outcomes of this initiative include enhanced knowledge and skills among the farming community in Punggur Kapuas regarding the creation of safe and environmentally friendly botanical pesticides, a reduction in the use of chemical pesticides, increased productivity of organic crops, and heightened awareness of the importance of sustainable farming practices. The project has already demonstrated positive impacts, with participants gaining practical expertise in botanical pesticide and compost production. The initiative aims to encourage the adoption of organic farming practices and environmental sustainability, thereby benefiting the local economy and ecosystem. Future efforts may include extension activities, active mentoring, and supplementary skills training to further advance organic crop cultivation and promote sustainability in local agriculture.

Abstract

Da'wah, or Islamic preaching, has expanded into cyber media. This article aims to analyze the use of cyber media for da'wah, focusing on media space, media documentation, and media objects, as exemplified by Ustaz Abi Azkakia's live streaming of Mobile Legends on YouTube. Utilizing a descriptive qualitative approach, the research incorporates literature studies, video documentation, and analysis of media features. The data findings reveal three key aspects: First, the optimization of YouTube as a media space by Ustaz Abi Azkakia for live streaming and uploading da'wah content, including features such as video uploads, shorts, and live streaming. Second, in terms of media documentation, Abi Azkakia effectively engages players by integrating worship and moral values into content, using visually appealing thumbnails, promoting polite behavior, facilitating live chat discussions, and advocating sincere, non-commercial donations. This approach includes personal narratives, stories of the Prophet and his companions, and references to the Al-Qur'an and Hadith. Third, regarding media objects, this article observes an interactivity trend with a modest increase in likes and comments, while the duration of content shows a fluctuating trend, and overall broadcast frequency tends to decrease.
