Abstract

This research is aimed at proving if the use of pictionary game can improve vocabulary of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Sigi. This research used a quasi-experimental design consisting of experimental and control groups. The Population of this research was the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Sigi. This research used a purposive sampling technique to select the sample. The sample of this research was two classes, in the amount 56 students of VIIIA and VIIIB. During the data collection process, this research used a vocabulary test. The test was administered twice as pre-test and post-test. The vocabulary test as the data was analyzed statistically. The findings shows that the mean score of the experimental group improved from pre-test to post-test, i.e. from 45.58 to 74.40, while the mean score of control groups improved from 45.11 to 68.21. The data were statistically analyzed using the t-counted formula with degrees of freedom (df) = Nx + Ny - 2 = 28 +28 - 2 = 54. The analysis results show that the t-counted value is 2.358 while the t-table value is 1.674. It means that the t-counted is higher than the t-table. It can be interpreted that the hypothesis was accepted. Therefore, pictionary game can improve vocabulary of the eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 5 Sigi. The implication of this finding to the teaching practice is that teachers need to apply the pictionary game to make teaching a vocabulary better

Abstract

SDN 9 Mamboro is one of the schools in Palu City that has launched a literacy and numeracy program. Observations conducted by the service team showed that the literacy and numeracy practices at this school were not optimal. The implementation is still at the habituation stage, directing students to read for 15 minutes at the beginning of the lesson and the implementation is not routine. The book collection and the number of students visiting the library were also lacking, the reading corner was inadequate, the learning methods used were conventional and most teachers did not have the necessary skills to create ICT-based learning media. Based on these observations, the service team and the principal agreed to provide training and assistance in literacy and numeracy activities through the use of bulletin integrated character education (BICE) media. The expected goal of this activity is to improve students' literacy and numeracy skills. The average pretest score of literacy and numeracy skills was 38.29 and increased to 84.92 during the posttest.

Abstract

As a result of their increased exposure to technology, today's students are skilled users of a wide range of digital gadgets in their daily lives. To solve difficulties, they can freely access knowledge across a variety of digital platforms; this ability has to be included into contemporary learning principles. The purpose of this study is to investigate how lecturers might modify innovative teaching methods to better suit the needs of their students. 125 people participated in the survey that we did; 59 of them were from scientific programs and 66 were from non-science programs. The study used observation sheets, interview guides, and questionnaires. The questionnaire was split into two sections: one measured students' opinion of the technology and pedagogical innovations used by lecturers, and the other their reactions to the classroom and educational system. Before any data was collected, the validity and reliability of the instruments were confirmed. The findings showed that students had preferences for different types of technology. Students in scientific programs liked interactive platforms like Edmodo and Google Classroom, while students in other programs liked webinars and video conferences. Additionally, the study found a relationship between the educational trends that lecturers apply, pedagogical innovation, and the learning environment. The results of this study are anticipated to improve instructional practices in digital learning settings and provide a basis for policymaking in continuing education.

Abstract

Project-Based Learning (PjBL) offers an instructional approach that emphasizes student autonomy, collaboration, and real-world application, which may enhance essay-writing ability. This study aims to (1) examine the effect of PjBL on university students’ essay-writing ability and (2) evaluate its effectiveness in improving writing performance. A quasi-experimental design with a sequential explanatory mixed-methods approach was employed. The participants were students in Class B of the English Education Study Program at Tadulako University, selected through purposive sampling. Quantitative data were gathered through pre- and post-tests and analyzed using a paired samples t-test and normalized gain (N-gain) scores. Qualitative data from learning logs and interviews were analyzed thematically to explain the quantitative findings. The t-test indicated a statistically significant improvement in students’ writing scores after the PjBL intervention (p = 0.000). However, the N-gain score was 0.1978, placing the effectiveness in the “low” category. Qualitative findings showed that students positively perceived PjBL, noting enhanced critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. Nevertheless, several challenges emerged, including uneven group participation, cognitive overload, and misalignment between assessment and learning activities. Despite statistical significance, the low effectiveness suggests limitations in task design, assessment alignment, and learner readiness. These factors may have constrained the impact of PjBL on measurable writing outcomes. PjBL significantly affected students’ essay-writing ability, but its practical effectiveness was limited. Given the study’s reliance on a single purposive sample, generalizability is restricted. Future research should include larger, diverse samples and refine instructional design to maximize PjBL’s pedagogical benefits.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine whether the Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy can improve the reading comprehension of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 10 Palu. A quantitative approach was employed, using a pre-experimental design involving a single class—the experimental group. The population consisted of 65 seventh-grade students, from which a purposive sample of 32 students from class VII Ketapang was selected. Data were collected through a test comprising a pre-test and a post-test. The results show that the LRD strategy effectively enhanced students' reading comprehension, as evidenced by an increase in the average score from 56.33 (pre-test) to 87.44 (post-test), reflecting a 31.11-point improvement. These findings suggest that the LRD strategy can serve as an effective instructional approach for teaching descriptive texts and improving students' reading comprehension skills.

Abstract

This study investigates the extent of EFL students’ understanding of the suffix -en in English word formation at Tadulako University. This research employs a descriptive quantitative design, with data collected through a multiple-choice test and a questionnaire focusing on recognition, word formation, and meaning of the suffix -en. The data are analyzed using descriptive statistics. The findings indicate that students experience low difficulty in recognizing the suffix -en, moderate difficulty in understanding its meaning, and high difficulty in word formation using the suffix -en. These results suggest that students’ difficulties lie mainly in productive and semantic aspects rather than in formal recognition, indicating the need for explicit instruction focusing on word formation practice and contextualized meaning analysis.
