Abstract

Background: Refusal to vaccinate is an obstacle to the success of the COVID-19 vaccination program. The community wants health workers to provide insight into the importance of vaccination. Medical students who are often actively involved in community activities directly have a role in the success of the COVID-19 vaccination. This paper examines the relationship between pre-clinical medical student’s knowledge, attitudes, and organization’s history related to COVID-19 vaccination to provide recommendations for behavioral interventions and policies. Objective: To determine the relationship between knowledge, attitude, and organizational history with the coverage of COVID-19 vaccination among respondents. Methods: A cross-sectional online survey of 77 pre-clinical medical students at UM Surabaya using a simple random sampling technique. The questionnaire used belongs to researcher Chyntia Caroline (2021). The research was conducted from August to October 2022. Statistical analysis used SPSSv.26, p<0.05. The Spearman test was performed to determine whether or not there was any relationship between knowledge, attitudes, organization’s history, and COVID-19 vaccination coverage. Results: The level of student knowledge is categorized as ''Sufficient'', and student attitude is classified as ''Good''. The results of the Spearman test found that knowledge and an organization’s history did not affect vaccination coverage (p=0.6 and 0.68). Attitudes affect vaccination coverage (p=0.000).Conclusion: There is no relationship between knowledge and an organization's history. Meanwhile, good attitudes influence COVID-19 vaccination coverage. An awareness campaign should be focused on promoting positive attitudes toward vaccination.

Abstract

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period characterized by rapid growth, hormonal changes, and increased nutritional needs. An imbalance in nutrient intake may lead to health problems such as anemia, undernutrition, and obesity. Digital media has the potential to serve as an effective platform for nutrition education tailored to adolescents. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of online balanced nutrition education delivered via Zoom Meeting on the knowledge and attitudes of junior high school students in Surabaya. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was employed. The sample consisted of 77 students aged 13–15 years from SMPN 46 and SMPN 48 Surabaya, selected purposively. The intervention involved a 120-minute balanced nutrition education session using visual presentations, videos, and infographics. Research instruments included a knowledge questionnaire (20 items) and an attitude questionnaire (15 statements). Data were analyzed using paired sample t-test and independent sample t-test with a significance level of p < 0.05. The results showed a significant increase in knowledge scores after the intervention (p = 0.000) and a positive shift in attitudes among most participants, particularly regarding the importance of fruit and vegetable consumption and the practice of healthy hygiene behaviors. In conclusion, online balanced nutrition education effectively improved adolescents’ knowledge and attitudes, and it is recommended to be implemented continuously with the involvement of schools and families to encourage better nutritional practices.

AbstractPrevention efforts are more efficient, do not cost a lot of for care, do not cause pain and do notlose productive time. Public Health Science as a science that prioritizes handling on preventionefforts. Preventive medicine is intended to prevent disease from occurring, prevent diseasefrom progressing to more severe level and prevent disease complications and cause disability.A disease incidence is affected by three factors, called as epidemiologic triangle, in which itconsists of host, agent and environment. If a disease occurs in a person or a population, whatshould be conducted is to strengthen at least one of the three elements of the epidemiologictriangle.Herd Immunity has shifted in meaning now, where it is similar to the process of allowing peopleor populations to be naturally exposed to Covid-19. In fact, the concept of herd immunity isbest applied when a population has been vaccinated. With this shift in understanding, it isundeniable that the number of deaths in Indonesia has increased.Public Health Science is a multidisciplinary field. It is a science and art that maintains andimproves public health through community organizing. Public health is very broad not onlyfrom sanitation engineering, curative medicine, preventive medicine and even social science,it is all related to economic stability in a region and even a country. Keywords: preventive medicine, epidemiologic triangle, herd immunity

Abstract

Hospitals are required to improve service quality, cost efficiency, patient safety, and user satisfaction in an increasingly complex healthcare environment. Traditional performance measurement systems that focus mainly on financial indicators are often insufficient to evaluate overall organizational performance. The Balanced Scorecard (BSC) offers a comprehensive framework by integrating four perspectives: financial, customer, internal business processes, and learning and growth. This study aimed to review the implementation of BSC in hospitals and identify its benefits, outcomes, and challenges. A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were performed in PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, and DOAJ using the keywords “balanced scorecard,” “hospital performance,” “healthcare management,” and “BSC in hospital.” Articles published between 2010 and 2025 in English or Indonesian were screened according to predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Of 312 records identified, 14 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final analysis. The findings showed that BSC positively contributed to hospital performance across all four perspectives. Financial improvements included better cost control, budget management, and operational efficiency. From the customer perspective, hospitals reported higher patient satisfaction and service quality. Internal process improvements included reduced waiting times, enhanced clinical quality, and more efficient workflows. In the learning and growth perspective, BSC supported staff development, organizational culture, employee retention, and professional competence. However, implementation challenges remained, including limited data quality, resistance to change, inadequate information systems, and insufficient understanding of BSC concepts. In conclusion, BSC is a comprehensive and adaptable framework for hospital performance measurement that supports strategic management, continuous quality improvement, and organizational sustainability.

Abstract

Background: Hospitals are required to provide fast, accurate, and high-quality healthcare services to improve patient satisfaction and maintain organizational competitiveness. Human resource (HR) performance plays a crucial role because healthcare workers directly interact with patients during service delivery. Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of service intensity and hospital revenue on patient volume as an indicator of HR performance in a private hospital in Gresik. Methods: A quantitative descriptive approach was used with secondary data from the hospital information system, including patient service records, physician services, transaction values, hospital revenue, and service units. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, multiple linear regression, R², t-test, and F-test. Results: Service intensity showed a positive and significant effect on patient volume, with a correlation coefficient of 0.530 (p = 0.001) and regression coefficient of 0.460 (p = 0.041), indicating that higher service intensity increases patient volume. Hospital revenue showed a positive correlation with patient volume (r = 0.412; p = 0.011), but regression results indicated no significant effect (β = 0.394; p = 0.633). Simultaneously, both variables significantly influenced patient volume (F = 5.624; p = 0.009), with R² = 0.287. Conclusion: Service intensity is the dominant factor affecting patient volume and serves as an important indicator for HR performance improvement. Strengthening service quality, workforce allocation, and healthcare analytics is recommended to enhance hospital performance and patient outcomes.

Abstract

When making decisions about disease screening, prevention, and treatment, seeking health information is essential. Access to and methods of obtaining health information are impacted by digital transformation, including in the orthopedics sector. This study aimed to determine the sources of information used by patients at Surabaya Islamic Hospital (RSI) and how patients choose media related to orthopedic services. This study is a quantitative, descriptive, observational study involving 102 respondents and conducted in June 2024. Primary data were collected through a questionnaire covering 25 questions about treatment choices, media exposure, media satisfaction, and social demographics, which will later be analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. In this study, most respondents (279 vs. 228) sought orthopedic information through contemporary media. The most common sources of conventional and contemporary media were Instagram (47,1%) and family (55,9%), respectively. Conventional media accounted for the longest media usage duration (≤ 1 hour per day; 69,7% vs 62,0%). Conventional media were used more frequently (76,8% vs 74,2%) - two to four times a day. Conventional media use was more frequent among respondents (57,9% vs 50,9%). Conventional media were found to be more satisfactory in terms of education, ease of interaction, and information search. In conclusion, Contemporary media offers higher satisfaction levels when seeking orthopedic information, despite conventional media being used more frequently.
