Abstract

Papela Village is one of the coastal villages on Rote Island where most of the population works as fishermen. This work has been carried out by the people of Papela Village for generations. However, health problems caused by fishermen's work and work environment have not received serious attention. This study aims to obtain an overview of the occupational health status of catch fishermen in Papela Village, Rote Timur District, Rote Ndao Regency. This research is a descriptive study with a quantitative approach. A total of 71 people randomly selected were assigned as research respondents. Fishermen's health status is determined based on three parameters, namely anemia status, muscle complaints, and skin diseases. The results showed the occupational health status of catch fishermen in Papela Village as much as 60.6% had a low occupational health status and 39.4% of the people had a high occupational health status. The low health status of fishermen was caused by anemia with a proportion of 26.8%, musculoskeletal complaints with a proportion of 19.7%, and skin disease with a proportion of 38%. It can be concluded that the occupational health status of fishermen in Papela Village is still low and needs to be improved through efforts to minimize the negative influence of the risk factors.

Abstract

East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) is still the third largest contributor to Malaria cases in Indonesia, with a prevalence of 12%, Papua (18.4%) and West Papua (26.1%). Directly border with The Democratic Republic of Timor Leste (RDTL) with Mota'ain as the main crossing point, increases the risk of infectious diseases transmission. Mota’ain is located in coastal areas, swamps, river basins, former fish ponds, and rice fields potentially to be Anopheles sp. habitats. The purpose of this research is to examine the characteristics and spatial distribution of potential breeding habitats for Anopheles sp. in Mota'ain. This is a descriptive analytic study with a cross-sectional design. The Anopheles sp mosquito bionomic area, which included swamps, rice fields, estuaries around the perimeter, and the buffer area of the Mota'ain border, served as the research sample. The spatial regression test was used to analyze the data, and the results revealed three points of Anopheles sp larvae habitats, namely fish ponds, swamps, and river basin. In the buffer area, 24 (80%) of the larvae habitats were found within a 200-meter radius, and 24 (80%) of the larvae habitats were found within a 400-meter radius 6 (20%). There was no habitat found around the perimeter. With a habitat index of 50%, the density of Anopheles sp larvae per catch ranged from 0.04 to 12.03. Anopheles sp larvae discovered included Anopheles Barbirostris, Anopheles Subpictus, and Anopheles Vagus. Swamps have the most habitat (3,004.7 m2), while river basins have the least (3,004.7 m2) (2.93 m2). The Spatial Regression Test revealed that habitat area (p = 0.014), water pH (p = 0.015), and salinity (p = 0.00012) were significant. This means that habitat area, water pH, and salinity all have an effect on Anopheles sp. density, whereas temperature has no effect (p = 0.778). Cleaning aquatic plants and employing larval predators to prevent larval breeding.

Abstract

Work accident cases are a health problem in many parts of the world, including in the East Nusa Tenggara region. This study aims to analyze the relationship between behavior and work accidents among rice farmers who use pesticides in Oebobo village, Batu Putih district. This type of research uses an analytic survey with a cross-sectional design. The study's results were analyzed statistically using the chi-square test showing the relationship between knowledge and work accidents obtained a score (p-value) of 0.023, and the relationship between attitudes and work accidents got a score (p-value) of 0.044. The relationship between action and work accidents, a score (p-value) of 0.030 was obtained so that statistically, there was a relationship between behavior and work accidents on pesticide-using rice in Oebobo Village, Batu Putih District. This research contributes to knowing the causes of work accidents among farmers who use pesticides, namely lack of knowledge, attitudes that do not want to use personal protective equipment, and unsafe actions at work. The use of PPE by rice farmers is still deficient. The majority of farmers generally still feel indifferent about this. The findings obtained in this study indicate that knowledge, attitudes, and actions are related to work accidents among rice farmers who use pesticides in Oebobo Village, Batu Putih District. In the future, there needs to be more intense outreach by either village assistants or other related parties in order to increase the knowledge and understanding of the farmers in the village, as well as prevent work accidents in the future.

Abstract

Background: Sexually transmitted infections are diseases that are transmitted through sexual intercourse with partners who have high-risk sexual behavior, one of which is changing sex partners without using condoms. This behavior is most likely to occur by using the services of female sex workers. Objective: this study aims to analyze the factors associated with the incidence of sexually transmitted infections among female sex workers in Kupang City. Method: this study is a quantitative study with a cross sectional design. Results: bivariate analysis showed that the variables of individual characteristics (age, education, length of work as a female sex worker, and income) and prevention behavior of sexually transmitted infections (condom use) had a p value <0.25. After multivariate analysis, it was found that the variables of length of work and condom use had a p value <0.05. Conclusion: there is an association between individual characteristics (age, education, length of time working as a female sex worker, and income) and sexually transmitted infection prevention behavior (condom use) with the incidence of sexually transmitted infections. The variables of length of employment and condom use were significantly associated with the incidence of sexually transmitted infections among female sex workers in Kupang City.
