Abstract

Transit hotels provide short-term accommodation for passengers between transportation schedules, requiring rest and minimal entertainment facilities before continuing their journey. Unlike conventional hotels, no explicit standards govern the layout, space-filling, and decorative elements of transit hotel bedrooms, particularly in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze how these three elements are applied in Indonesian transit hotel bedrooms and how they correspond to visitor activities, behavior, and needs. A descriptive qualitative method was used, employing a comparative case study of three transit hotels representing different transportation nodes: an airport hotel, a train station hotel, and a toll-road rest-area hotel. Data were collected through direct observation, staff interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using a servicescape framework. The results show that room layout and furnishing must be adapted to the duration of stay and visitor profile rather than following a single standard. Decorative elements enhance the perceived liveliness of the space; airport hotels, bound by star-hotel classification, offer more complete space-filling elements, while station and rest-area hotels, which fall outside formal star classification, adopt more minimal, space-efficient configurations such as pod rooms.

Abstract

The development of global furniture trends has increased public interest inScandinavian furniture design, particularly among Indonesian millennials whoprioritize aesthetics, simplicity, and functionality in interior products. Carl Hansen& Son is recognized as one of the leading Scandinavian furniture manufacturers,known for its minimalist and timeless chair designs. However, differences incultural preferences, lifestyle, and ergonomic needs indicate the necessity ofadapting Scandinavian furniture characteristics to Indonesian users. This studyanalyzes the design preferences of Indonesian millennials toward Carl Hansen &Son chair products and develops design recommendations based on the findings.The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach supported byquantitative questionnaire data collected from 50 respondents aged 22–40 years,examining preferences regarding chair form, material, color, finishing, andfunctionality. The results indicate that Indonesian millennials prefer simple andmodern forms, natural wood materials, neutral colors, and multifunctionalfurniture concepts that support contemporary urban lifestyles. Based on thesefindings, the study proposes several chair design alternatives that combineScandinavian design principles with the preferences and characteristics ofIndonesian users. The research contributes to the development of adaptivefurniture design strategies for the Indonesian market while maintaining the designidentity of Scandinavian modern furniture.
