Abstract

Background: Skin tags or acrochordons are benign fibroepithelioma skin tumors with soft consistency, usually pedunculated, primarily originating from the dermis. High levels of blood sugar and a high lipid profile are risk factors for inflammation and hormonal imbalance, which can contribute to the development of skin tags. Purpose: The objective of this study is to identify the association between blood sugar and lipid profile with skin tags. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study conducted from April to August 2019 at the Dermatovenereology and Endocrine Policlinic, Dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital, Banda Aceh. The sampling method of this study was consecutive sampling with 60 samples that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. A blood glucose, lipid profile, and skin tag examination was conducted on all subjects. Result: The majority of the subjects are women (61.5%), have an average age of 41-50 years old (43.3%), are obese (41.7%), and have one to five lessions of 1-5 (53.3%). There was a significant correlation between blood glucose, 2 hours post-prandial, total cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein (HDL), and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels with skin tags with Spearman's correlation values of 0.645, 0.645, 0.794, 0.704, 0.606, and 0.606 consecutively. Conclusion: A high level of blood sugar and lipid profile, whether it is total cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, or LDL level, can contribute to the development of skin tags.

Abstract

Background: Photoaging is the aging of the skin characterized by the appearance of wrinkles, telangiectasis, solar elastosis, pigmentation and keratosis. Photoaging is usually caused by external factor, such as sun exposure. The radiation from the sun causes an increase of the reactive oxygen species (ROS). Cell damage, dry skin, photoaging, and skin cancer are all caused by the accumulation of ROS in the skin. Purpose: The goal of this study is to find out how sun exposure affects the severity of photoaging and skin hydration at dr. Zainoel Abidin Regional General Hospital Banda Aceh. Methods: This is an analytic observational study with an accidental sampling technique. Sun exposure was   measured by a questionnaire, the severity of photoaging was assessed based on the doctor's diagnosis, and skin hydration was assessed through an examination using a corneometer and tewameter.  Results: This study indicates that there is an effect of sun exposure and the severity of photoaging with p value of 0.016, while skin hydration shows a significant effect of sun exposure on hydration with a corneometer parameter with a p value of 0.031 Conclusion: There is a substantial correlation between sun exposure and the severity of photoaging. There is a substantial relationship between sun exposure and skin moisture, as measured by the corneometer parameter.

Abstract

Background: Skin tumors are swellings caused by proliferation or failure of cell death mechanisms. Based on the type of growth, skin tumors are divided into benign tumors and malignant tumors. Purpose: To investigate the incidence of skin tumors in Dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital outpatient clinic. Methods: This study is a descriptive study with  total sampling. The diagnosis of skin tumors is assessed based on medical records filled by Dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital Dermatovenerologist in January 2017-September 2021. Result: The results showed patients diagnosed with benign skin tumors had as many as 360 subjects and malignant tumors had as many as 4 samples. The majority of women are affected by benign and malignant skin tumors. Based on the age of benign tumors dominated by the age of 22-45 years while in malignant tumors dominated by 45-64 years.  The majority of the sample comes from Banda Aceh, based on where the most of them reside. Based on the size of lesions, benign tumors are dominated by lesions that are less than 0.5 cm in size, while malignant tumors are dominated by lesions that are larger than 0.5 cm in size. Based on the presence and absence of recursion the entire dominant sample has no recursion. Based on the physical treatment in benign tumors are dominated by electrocautery action while malignant tumors are the same number between general surgery and FNAB. Conclusion: most of the skin tumors found in Dr. Zainoel Abidin General Hospital dermatology and venerology outpatient clinic are benign

Abstract

Background: Hair loss is one of the most commonly reported problems in dermatology One of the causes of hair loss is high stress levels. The effects of stress can impact hair condition, which in turn can affect appearance. Purpose: This study was to determine the relationship between stress levels and the incidence of hair loss among students at Syiah Kuala University. Methods: This research employed an observational analytic study using approach, utilizing cross-sectional data. The number of subject used in this study was 100 students who were taken by the simple random sampling method. The data analysis used was bivariate analysis to see the relationship between stress levels and the incidence of hair loss. Result: Out of 100 subjects of students with normal, mild, moderate, severe, and very severe stress levels, 59% of them experienced pathological hair loss. By using a significance value of 95%, the relationship between stress levels and the incidence of hair loss in Syiah Kuala University students showed a significance value, or p-value, of 0.024. Conclusion: This study shows that there is a relationship between stress levels and the incidence of hair loss among students at the University of Syiah Kuala.
