Abstract

Entrepreneurial resilience plays a critical role in determining the success or failure of startups, especially in highly volatile and competitive environments. While many studies have focused on the factors leading to startup success, less attention has been paid to how entrepreneurs recover from failure and the key traits that contribute to their resilience. Understanding these dynamics is essential for aspiring entrepreneurs and stakeholders in the startup ecosystem. This research aims to explore the concept of entrepreneurial resilience by analyzing case studies of both failed and successful startups. The study seeks to identify the factors that contribute to entrepreneurial resilience and how these factors influence the ability to recover from failure or sustain success. A qualitative case study approach was employed, focusing on 10 startup companies—5 that failed and 5 that succeeded. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with founders and key stakeholders, as well as secondary sources such as company reports and news articles. Thematic analysis was used to identify recurring patterns and key themes. The study found that successful entrepreneurs exhibited high levels of emotional intelligence, adaptability, and a strong support network. In contrast, failed startups often struggled with a lack of strategic foresight, poor decision-making, and inadequate resource management. Resilience factors, including mindset, leadership, and external support, were crucial in navigating both failure and success.

Abstract

Many learning institutions and organizations are currently faced with the acute burden of trying to forecast the academic performance of their students. This paper reflects the application of machine learning tools to discuss the potential and performance of students in Islamic Studies. The framework suggested in this paper, will start with the acquisition of the historical data of the students in the input dataset. First, the forward selection wrapper method is used to select the most meaningful features thus eliminating the redundant qualities in the set of student data. Three types of classifiers are then used to create a classification model based on fuzzy support vector machines (SVM), K-nearest neighbors (K-NN), and Naive Bayes. In such a methodological approach, academic performance is predicted and results measured according to certain criteria. According to results of the experiment, it is noted that feature selection-fuzzy support vector machine (FS-fuzzy SVM) has an excellent accuracy of 99.9% with a sensitivity of 98.50% and a specificity of 98.50% and it is therefore seen to be more effective in predicting the academic performance of students in Islamic Studies.

Abstract

This research is important because uncontrolled inflation can reduce economic growth, weaken purchasing power, and increase inequality in West Sumatra. From an Islamic economic perspective, price stability is related to justice and welfare (falah), so this research is relevant for policy basis. This research aims to analyze the effect of inflation on economic growth in West Sumatra for the period 1985–2024 using a time series approach and an Islamic economics review. Secondary data were collected through documentation from official publications of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and analyzed using EViews through stationarity tests, classical assumption tests, and simple linear regression. The results show that inflation becomes stationary after differencing once, and the regression model meets the classical assumptions (no symptoms of normality, autocorrelation, and heteroscedasticity). Inflation is proven to have a significant negative effect on economic growth, with a p-value of 0.0000 <0.05. This indicates that increasing inflation tends to reduce economic growth in West Sumatra. In the perspective of Islamic economics, price stability is part of an effort to maintain economic justice and social welfare (falah) so that uncontrolled inflation can disrupt income distribution and reduce people's purchasing power. Therefore, controlling inflation is important not only economically, but also to realize the values of justice in the Islamic economic system
