Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to determine and analyze the factors influencing student learning outcomes at SMP Islam Al Chusnaini, Sidoarjo, focusing on the variables of social status, parental attention, learning motivation, and learning facilities. Design/methodology/approach: This research employs a quantitative approach with a survey method. The population comprises all 84 students of SMP Islam Al Chusnaini, Sidoarjo, using a total sampling technique. Data collection methods include observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analysis. Findings: The results indicate that: (1) Social status has a significant positive effect on student learning outcomes; (2) Parental attention shows a significant negative effect on student learning outcomes; (3) Learning motivation has a significant positive effect on student learning outcomes; (4) Learning facilities have a significant positive effect on student learning outcomes. Research limitations/implications: This study is limited to one educational institution (SMP Islam Al Chusnaini, Sidoarjo) within a specific timeframe. The findings regarding parental attention suggest a need for further qualitative exploration into the dynamics of parental involvement at the research site. Originality/value: This research contributes by examining a unique combination of four key factors (social status, parental attention, motivation, and facilities) within the context of an Islamic middle school. The unexpected finding of a negative relationship between parental attention and learning outcomes offers a novel perspective for further investigation in similar educational settings

Abstract

This Study explores how the implementation of the problem Based Learning (PBL) model in Social Studies (IPS) instruction can faster social awarenes among elementary school students. Using a literature review approach, the study examines a range of recent journals, academic articles, and books relevant to the topic. The reviewed literature indicates that Social Studies plays a crucial role in helping students understand social phenomena, develop empathy, and build a sense of responsibility toward their surrounding community. However, Social Studies learning in many elementary classrooms is still dominated by teacher centered methods, which limit students’ opportunities to engage actively in disscussions, investigate real issues, and think critically. The PBL model offers an alternative approach by positioning real-life problems as the foundation of the learning procces. Through collaborative inquiry, group discussions, and guided problem-solving, students gain learning experiences that are meaningful and closely connected to everyday social realities. Findings across several studies show that PBL enhances students’ motivation, critical thinking, cooperation, and sensitivity to social issues. Therefore, integrating PBL into Social Studies instruction serves as an effective strategy not only for strengthening social awareness but also for shaping students’ character in a consistent and sustainable manner. This review provides a theoretical foundation for teachers who wish to design Social Studies lessons that are more participatory, reflective, and relevant to students’ social development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the perception and level of student involvement in interfaith dialogue activities in higher education as part of efforts to strengthen harmony in diversity. Universities play an important role as a strategic forum in fostering multicultural awareness and religious moderation values, especially in the midst of the complexity of society 5.0. This study uses a mixed-method approach with a quantitative descriptive design combined with qualitative analysis to produce an in-depth understanding. Data was obtained through a survey of 110 students, representing 17.2% of the total 639 students, using a proportional random sampling technique. The results showed that most students had a positive view of religious diversity (87.3%) and considered it important to maintain harmony between religious communities (79.1%). However, their level of involvement in interfaith dialogue is still low (36.4%), indicating a gap between value awareness and social practice. Although 88.2% of students did not experience discrimination based on religion, almost half (47.3%) had witnessed it happen to others, indicating that there is still potential for intolerance on campus. These findings emphasize the relevance of religious moderation theory and the idea of inclusive education which highlight the importance of the role of educational institutions in building a space for reflective, collaborative, and participatory interfaith dialogue. Thus, strengthening interreligious harmony on campus requires not only intellectual awareness, but also concrete strategies through social activities, religious digital literacy, and multicultural education based on empathy and openness.
