Abstract

The purpose of this service was to actualization the of milkfish cultivation field school activities implementation in the Pekalongan City coastal. The service method used was counseling activities with a certain thematic coupled with field practice. Then, the activity participants were given a question instrument questionnaire. The results of the analysis of this community service activity showed that the majority respondents (12 people) stated that there was an increase in knowledge related to procedures for cultivating fish after joining the program. Additionally, from participating survey their insights increased and their mastery of technology also became more proficient, and they gained new relationships. In general, this program was very beneficial for them as program recipients, with the impact of increasing their mastery of activity material by 60-99%. The level of mastery of the material was 60-99%, with 6 people responding 60-79%, 5 people responding 80-99%, and 1 person responding >60%. The conclusion of the milkfish cultivation field school activities in the coastal area of Pekalongan City was that, in terms of evaluation, it was very good. Milkfish cultivation field school activities proved to be an effective means of transferring information from researcher or academician to fish farmers in the Pekalongan area.

Abstract

Mangrove forests are vital coastal ecosystems that support biodiversity and deliver key ecological services, particularly in tropical regions. In Pekalongan, Central Java, rapid coastal development and land-use change threaten their ecological integrity, particularly their role in carbon sequestration. This study assessed mangrove species richness, biomass, and carbon stock in both conservation and non-conservation areas to evaluate their ecological status and contribution to climate change mitigation. Six sampling sites, comprising protected and unprotected areas, were surveyed using 60 nested square plots to record tree and sapling populations. Biomass estimates, including above and below ground components, were calculated through specific allometric models. Results showed that conservation areas stored higher carbon (248.82 tC ha⁻¹) than non-conservation sites, though Degayu which an unprotected area had the second-highest carbon stock (159.66 tC ha⁻¹). Among species, Sonneratia alba contributed the most carbon, while dense saplings of Rhizophora apiculata and Bruguiera gymnorhiza suggest potential shifts in species dominance. The mean carbon stock (125.02 tC ha⁻¹, equivalent to 495.07 t CO₂e ha⁻¹) indicates substantial emission risks if degradation occurs. These findings underscore the critical role of both conservation and non-conservation mangroves in climate regulation and align with Indonesia’s current policy focus on blue carbon ecosystems, coastal resilience, and community-based conservation.

Abstract

Abstract

Milkfish (Chanos chanos) cultivation faces challenges related to high feed costs and disease outbreaks caused by Vibrio bacteria. The use of natural ingredients containing bioactive compounds, such as Sonneratia alba mangrove leaves, as feed additives may serve as an effective solution. This study aimed to determine the effect of adding Pidada (S. alba) leaf extract at different doses to feed on growth performance and survival rates after infection with Vibrio harveyi. The experiment used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of four treatments and three replications. The treatments included: A (control, artificial feed without extract), B (75 ppm per 500 g feed), C (125 ppm per 500 g feed), and D (170 ppm per 500 g feed). Treatment B produced the best biomass gain of 8.4 g, the best feed conversion ratio (FCR) of 1.16, and a feeding efficiency of 86.52 percent. The addition of S. alba leaf extract significantly improved growth and survival of milkfish infected with V. harveyi, with treatments B, C, and D maintaining a 100 percent survival rate after infection. Treatment A showed the lowest growth and survival, indicating that S. alba leaf extract positively supports fish health and enhances milkfish cultivation outcomes
