Abstract

Inter-students face unique challenges in the process of social and emotional adaptation due to living far from their families and home environment. In this context, friendship becomes an important element that not only functions as a social network, but also as a deep psychological support system. This study aims to uncover the meaning of friendship for inter-students through a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. A total of 10 participants who were inter-students were interviewed in depth using a semi-structured format. Data analysis was conducted using the thematic analysis method which resulted in five main themes: (1) friendship as emotional support, (2) friendship as a substitute family, (3) friendship as a coping mechanism in academic and social pressures, (4) friendship as a safe space for self-expression, and (5) conflict dynamics as a relationship strengthener. The results of the study indicate that friendship has a complex and multifunctional meaning, covering emotional, social, and existential dimensions. Friendship relationships have been shown to contribute to maintaining students' psychological stability, strengthening academic resilience, and forming self-identity in a new environment. These findings emphasize the importance of building a strong social support system for inter-students, both through institutional interventions and community approaches. This study also opens up opportunities to study further the factors that influence the dynamics of social relationships in the context of students' life transitions.

Abstract

Academic stress is a common issue frequently experienced by both school and university students. This condition is typically triggered by various academic demands, such as heavy workloads, examination schedules, and pressure to achieve high performance. This literature review aims to examine the effectiveness of classical music therapy as a non-pharmacological intervention for reducing academic stress. Based on an analysis of eight research journals, classical music therapy has been shown to significantly reduce stress levels among students at various educational levels. For example, a study by Cahyani et al. (2024) demonstrated that the combination of natural sound music and progressive muscle relaxation effectively reduced stress in final-year university students (p=0.012). Literature reviews by Yuliana et al. (2023) and Febrianti et al. (2023) reported that classical music, particularly Mozart’s compositions, stimulates alpha and beta brain waves and regulates stress hormones such as ACTH, showing significant results after 20-minute sessions over a two-month period. Seprian et al. (2023) also found that instrumental music at 432 Hz effectively reduced academic stress in nursing students (p=0.000). Overall, despite variations in music types, classical music consistently demonstrates positive psychological and physiological effects. Therefore, classical music is considered an effective, accessible intervention and is recommended for further research to strengthen empirical evidence.

Abstract

This study aims to understand resilience in adolescent girls with a history of self-harm. Using a phenomenological approach, six participants aged 14–18 were interviewed in depth. Self-harm was found to be a response to emotional stress, family conflict, academic pressure, and feelings of loneliness. Despite this, participants showed resilience through positive coping, social support, self-reflection, creative expression, and self-compassion. Resilience emerged as a process shaped by crisis experiences and meaning-making. The study highlights the importance of psychological approaches that consider individuality and personal strengths in preventing and recovering from self-harm.

Abstract

This study aims to understand the meaning of work-life balance from the subjective perspective of employees working in shift work systems at PT PLN Nusantara Power. Using a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method, this study explores the experiences of five shift workers through in-depth interviews. The research findings show that work-life balance for shift workers is uniquely and contextually defined, not just as a balanced division of time between work and personal life, but also as an effort to create emotional, physical, and social harmony amidst uncertain work schedules. Participants revealed the importance of family support, adaptability, and time management strategies as key to maintaining life balance. These findings have implications for the development of organizational policies that are more responsive to the needs and well-being of employees with non-conventional work systems.

Abstract

Social media has become an integral part of daily life, particularly among adolescents and young adults. However, uncontrolled use of social media can lead to a psychological phenomenon known as Fear of Missing Out (FoMO), a chronic fear of missing out on the experiences of others. One key factor believed to be associated with the intensity of FoMO is self-control. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-control and FoMO through a literature review approach. Based on an analysis of various scholarly sources, it was found that individuals with low self-control tend to experience higher levels of FoMO. The implications of these findings are significant for the development of educational strategies and psychological interventions aimed at promoting healthy social media use.

Abstract

Academic stress is a common phenomenon experienced by students in their higher education journey. Pressure from academic tasks, exams, and achievement demands can have a negative impact on students' mental health and academic performance. This study aims to explore the role of social support in helping students cope with academic stress through a qualitative approach. This study uses a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 7 students from various faculties who experienced high academic stress. The results showed that social support played a significant role in reducing students' academic stress levels through four main dimensions: emotional support, informational support, instrumental support, and appraisal support. Social support was shown to be an effective protective factor in coping with students' academic stress, with family and peers as the main sources of support.

Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial period marked by strong emotions and the search for identity, which greatly affect social relationships. Inside Out 2 introduces new emotions such as anxiety, envy, shame, and boredom, reflecting the complexity of emotions experienced by adolescents. The purpose of this study is to explore how adolescent emotions are depicted in Inside Out 2 and how they affect the social relationships of the main character, Riley. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with Roland Barthes' visual semiotic analysis and a developmental psychology approach. The findings of the analysis indicate that the visual design and behavior of the emotional characters symbolically depict the psychological dynamics of adolescents, as well as how unmanaged emotions can disrupt social relationships and influence negative self-perceptions. This film not only functions as a means of entertainment, but also as an effective educational medium in increasing understanding of the importance of emotional intelligence and emotional management in adolescents. These results support the potential of animated films as psychological learning tools that can be used in various disciplines.

Abstract

This study investigates the effects of the fatherless phenomenon on college students' self-confidence by conducting a thorough literature review. The presence of a father within the family setting is crucial for a child's identity formation, personal growth, and psychological well-being. Nevertheless, the issue of father absence, often referred to as fatherlessness, remains a pressing concern in Indonesia. Data from 2021 indicates that approximately 20.9% of Indonesian children are raised without a father figure. This absence significantly affects the development of self-confidence, particularly among those transitioning into early adulthood. This study adopts a qualitative methodology through a literature review, drawing upon credible scientific publications from the past five to ten years. The findings suggest that fatherlessness has a tangible influence on children's levels of self-confidence and their overall psychosocial adjustment. Identified effects include challenges in decision-making, increased social anxiety, identity confusion, academic decline, and difficulty forming meaningful social relationships. Children growing up without paternal involvement often exhibit low self-esteem, social withdrawal, and a reduced capacity to trust others.

Abstract

This study analyzes the representation of psychological trauma and coping mechanisms in Matt Reeves' film The Batman (2022), highlighting Robert Pattinson's interpretation of the character Bruce Wayne as a figure grappling with unresolved childhood trauma. Through a cinematic and psychological approach, the film presents the most realistic and profound portrayal of the psychological impact of the tragic loss of a parent, depicting Wayne as an individual suffering from chronic insomnia, extreme social isolation, emotional numbing, hypervigilance, and difficulty forming interpersonal relationships—symptoms characteristic of PTSD. The Batman identity is used as a maladaptive coping mechanism, serving as an escape from healthy grief processing and reinforcing the trauma cycle through obsessive compulsions toward justice and destructive revenge fantasies. Wayne's relationships with Alfred, Selina Kyle, and Commissioner Gordon reflect issues of emotional attachment and fear of rejection rooted in the loss of parental figures, while the narrative parallels between Batman and the Riddler highlight the concept of inherited trauma and how individuals with similar inner wounds can develop vastly different coping strategies.
