Abstract

Obesity is a medical condition in which a person experiences abnormal fat accumulation that exceeds normal limits, which can have a negative impact on health. Obesity sufferers are increasing, especially in developed and developing countries. The prevalence of obesity is estimated to be 42% in 2030. Risk factors that can cause obesity include unhealthy lifestyles and lack of physical activity. When there is excess fat accumulation in the body, there will be an increase in leptin levels in the body resulting in oxidative stress that triggers the emergence of free radicals that can inhibit the growth of follicles in the ovaries. To neutralize free radicals in the body, antioxidants are needed. One type of fruit that is rich in antioxidants is sunkist oranges (Citrus sinensis (L) Osbeck), this study discusses the effect of giving sunkist orange granule extract (Citrus sinensis (L) Osbeck) on the morphology of ovarian follicles in obese female wistar rats (Ratus norvegicus). Using a laboratory experimental research design with a post-test only control group design, using 25 female rats divided into 5 groups, namely the Negative Control Group, the Positive Control Group (Alloxan and High Fat), and the Treatment Group given alloxan and Sunkist orange granule extract at a dose of 50 mg / kgBW / day, 100 mg / kgBW / day, 150 mg / kgBW / day. Results: Sunkist Orange Granule Extract (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck) has a significant effect on the histomorphology of ovarian follicles with obesity induction in female rats (Rattus norvegicus).

Abstract

Obesity is a body condition where there is excessive weight gain due to an imbalance between calories consumed and energy expended so that calories accumulate in fat tissue. In Indonesia, there are 14.8% of the population aged > 18 years who are obese. The basic principle of obesity is that there is an imbalance between three aspects, namely food intake (intake), energy expenditure (output), and energy storage. The result of the imbalance in energy intake and output, where energy intake is greater than energy expenditure, will cause the accumulation of fat tissue in the body and will be stored as energy reserves. Obesity is a predisposing factor for various health problems. One of them is the quality of a person's reproduction which results in infertility. To find out that the extract of sunkist orange peel granules can affect the histopathology of testis in male mice with obesity, this study used an in vivo laboratory experimental method with a research design of Post Test Only Control Group Design. In this study, there were 25 male rats divided into 5 groups, with a negative control group (normal rats without treatment), a positive control group (rats induced with high-fat feed), a treatment group of rats induced with high-fat feed with Sunkist orange peel extract granules (Citrus Sinensis (L.) Osbeck) at a dose of 50 mg/KgBW, 100 mg/KgBW, and 150 mg/KgBW. Conclusion: Sunkist orange peel granule extract (Citrus Sinensis (L.) Osbeck) had an effect on blood glucose levels, total cholesterol, and body weight, but did not show a significant effect on the histopathological results of the testes in male rats.

Abstract

The unmet need for family planning is a significant reproductive health issue, particularly in developing countries. This study aimed to identify the factors associated with the unmet need for family planning among women visiting puskesmas in Medan City. This study used a cross-sectional design and included 186 participants. Data were collected using questionnaires. Data were analyzed using the chi-squared test and logistic regression. The results showed that age, education, knowledge, and perception of family planning were significantly associated with an unmet need for contraception (p<0.05). The younger the age, the lower the level of education, the lower the knowledge and perception of family planning, and the higher the likelihood of an unmet need for contraception. In contrast, family income and parity were not significantly associated with the unmet need for family planning. Satisfaction with family planning services was also not significantly associated with unmet need for contraception. The results highlight the importance of comprehensive interventions to address the unmet need for family planning. Educational programs targeting younger age groups, especially those with low educational levels, need to be improved. Additionally, efforts to improve knowledge and change community perceptions of family planning are crucial.

Abstract

Botox (botulinum toxin) is a commonly used aesthetic procedure to reduce facial wrinkles, especially in women of reproductive age. Although its physical benefits have been widely recognized, the effect of Botox on the psychological aspects and quality of life of patients still needs to be studied further. This study aims to analyze the impact of Botox use on the patient's skin condition, self-esteem, self-confidence, and quality of life psychologically, socially, and physically. This quantitative study involved 30 respondents selected by purposive sampling. Data were collected through a questionnaire measuring the frequency of Botox use, dosage, and using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale and WHOQOL-BREF to measure quality of life. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and Pearson correlation at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed a significant reduction in wrinkles and skin problems after Botox treatment (mean from 49% to 34%, p=0.003). There was a significant positive relationship between Botox use and self-esteem (r=0.45, p=0.012), self-confidence (r=0.38, p=0.025), and quality of life (r=0.62, p<0.001). These findings indicate that Botox has a positive effect not only on physical appearance, but also on the psychological aspects and overall quality of life of patients.

Abstract

Bacterial infections are a significant health problem worldwide, caused by various microorganisms that can infect different parts of the human body. Bacteria are single-celled microorganisms that can be found in various environments, including in the human body, and most of them are harmless. However, some species of bacteria can cause serious infections and inflammation that require proper medical attention. Some examples of bacteria that cause infections include Streptococcus pneumoniae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi, Vibrio cholerae, Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Escherichia coli, and Staphylococcus aureus. A sufficient vitamin D level in the body can enhance antimicrobial activity against various pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Vitamin E is known to be a powerful antioxidant and has a positive effect on the immune system. It plays a role in protecting immune cells from oxidative damage and enhancing the immune response to infection. The combination of vitamins D and E offers significant potential in the prevention and management of bacterial infections, as both contribute to improved immunological function through different and complementary mechanisms.

Abstract

BACKGROUND: The peel of Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck (sunkist orange) peels, which are often seen as waste, actually contains valuable properties such as antioxidants, hypoglycemic, nephroprotective, and anti-inflammatories. The potential effects of C. sinensis peel on diabetes have been discussed but not clear yet. Therefore, this study was performed to evaluate the effects of Granule Nanoparticle Sunkist Peel (GNSP) extracts as an antidiabetic agent in alloxan-induced diabetic rats.METHODS: The nanoparticle suspension was prepared by mixing a formulation of 0.2% chitosan and 0.1% sodium tripolyphosphate. The characteristics of nanoparticles were measured by flow time, tap index and angle of repose. Rats were induced with alloxan injection to create diabetes rat models. Rats were divided into five groups; normal control group, diabetic controls, and diabetic rats receiving either 50, 100, or 200 mg/kg/day GNSP. After 28 days of diabetes induction, rats were euthanized, and blood as well as tissue samples were collected. Blood glucose levels, HbA1c, and histopathology of the liver, kidneys, and pancreas were then assessed.RESULTS: The particle size of the synthesized material was 92.3 nm, which confirmed the nature of nanoparticle. The characteristics of the granule nanoparticle were also in accordance with the standards for drugs suitable for consumption. The administration of GNSP in dose dependent manner significantly decrease blood glucose levels and HbA1C to normal levels compared to control group (p<0.05). Histopathological analysis indicated recovery in pancreas, liver, and kidney tissues following GNSP administration.CONCLUSION: GNSP administration lowers blood glucose levels and HbA1C, as well as improved histopathological condition of pancreas, liver, and kidney in diabetic rats. These findings suggest the potential of utilizing GNSP as a potent antidiabetic agent.KEYWORDS: Citrus Sinensis (L.) Osbeck, histopathology, hyperglycemia, nano medicine, and type 2 diabetes mellitus
