Abstract

Background: Diarrheal diseases are still a serious digestive tract infection in Indonesia. The geographical areas with lower socioeconomic inequalities and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) contribute to incline diarrheal disease among children under 5 years old. Purpose: This study aimed to map the distribution of diarrheal diseases among children under 5 years old and identify areas with higher risk in socioeconomic status and WASH. Methods: This study used secondary spatial data repository from Indonesia Demographic Health Survey 2017. This study used ecological approach to provide visual geographic distribution of diarrheal diseases among children under 5 years old, as well as to identify the risk based on the socioeconomic inequalities and WASH. The map production was performed by GIS software. Results: We found that provinces with higher percentage of diarrheal diseases in children also had higher percentage of population with the lowest socioeconomic status. Additionally, the provinces which had higher unimproved drinking water sources, unimproved sanitation facility, and limited handwashing facility, had the higher percentage of diarrheal disease among children under 5 years. Conclusion: The percentage of the lowest socioeconomic status and unimproved WASH might contribute to incline the percentage of diarrheal disease among children under 5 years. The government needs to consider the geographical area to decrease the diarrheal diseases among children under 5 years.

Abstract

The aviation sector is one of the work areas that requires the implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). Work in the aviation sector also presents various risks, one of which can occur in work accidents caused by fatigue. Based on preliminary studies conducted on Aviation Security Officers (AVSEC), there are symptoms of work fatigue. The study aims to determine the relationship of repetitive motion, workload, work shifts, and sleep quality with job fatigue in AVSEC officers. The research used a quantitative observational study with an analytic design through a cross-sectional approach with a total of 76 AVSEC officers. The instruments are stopwatch to measure repetitive motion, NASA-TLX questionnaire to measure the level mental workload, pulse oximeter to determine physical workload, PSQI questionnaire to determine sleep quality, and IFRC questionnaire to determine work fatigue. Data analyzed using Spearman's rank test and ordinal logistic regression test. The results show a significant relationship between all independent variables, namely repetitive motion (p-value <0.001), mental workload (p value <0.001), physical workload (p value = 0.041), work shift (p value = 0.002), and sleep quality (p value <0.001) with job fatigue. The most related variable in this study with work fatigue variable is mental workload variable (p-value = 0.002).

Abstract

Occupational Diseases (PAK) in the form of pain complaints in the skeletal system that cause the work process are called Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). PT. PLN Yantek workers are at risk of experiencing MSDs complaints because the work is done manually and the work posture is less ergonomic. This study aimed to analyze the effect of implementing full-body stretch and digital-based manual handling education and to assess its effectiveness on MSDs. The study used a quasi-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design involving 26 Yantek workers. The intervention was given at 10 meetings, MSDs complaints were measured using the Nordic Body Map questionnaire and analyzed using a paired sample t-test with a significance of α = 0.005. The study's results on the full body stretch variable and digital-based manual handling education in the experimental group showed a p-value of 0.000, which means there are differences in MSDs complaints before and after the intervention. The full-body stretch intervention results showed a mean difference of 13.27, while the digital-based manual handling education intervention showed a mean difference of 10.58. Therefore, both interventions have the same effect in reducing MSDs complaints, but whole-body stretching showed greater effectiveness. Keywords: musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), full body stretching, digital-based manual handling education

Abstract

The government implements social assistance programs for poor families and vulnerable groups. Therefore, the implementation is still facing various challenges. One of the toughest challenges is smoking behaviour. As the income has been increasing, the cigarette’s expense is also high. Cigarette’s expenditure substitutes other basic needs, such as nutritional foods, health, and education expenses. This study analyses smoking behaviour in social assistance recipients and its impact on quality of life. By using qualitative method, particularly the Rapid Assessment Procedure, data were obtained through in-depth interviews. The study uses purposive method to collect samples in East Java, both Malang City and Kediri Regency. Results show that all the informants have family members who were heavy smokers. The daily cigarette’s expenditure of social assistance’s recipients was significant compared to their daily expenses. It substitutes basic needs expenses and affects their quality of life specifically for nutritional, health, and child’s education status. Furthermore, due to nicotine addiction, it is very difficult for smokers to reduce the number of cigarette consumption, even though at difficult economies. Smoking behaviour also leads to family conflicts. It is important to regulate social assistance recipients who still disburse their budget for temptation goods such as cigarette. In addition, government must inform the negative impacts of smoking, as well as promote the healthy life behaviour using the existing program, Family Capacity Building Meeting/Pertemuan Peningkatan Kemampuan Keluarga (P2K2). As part of effective solutions to reduce smoking prevalence, unaffordable cigarette price is important due to lowering the consumption of addictive product.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: According to the Ministry of Health, 91% of active tuberculosis (TB) cases in Indonesia occur in crowded and slum areas. The Healthy Homes Program under the Healthy Indonesia Indicators (2010) aims to improve housing conditions in such areas to meet health standards. Malang District, with the second-highest housing density in East Java, ranks fifth in TB cases, suggesting residential exposure as a contributing factor. Objectives: This study aims to map trends and examine the correlation between healthy home coverage and TB incidence in the Malang District Health Center Working Area 2019-2021. Methods: The study was conducted in January-April 2023 at the Malang District Health Office with a unit of analysis of 39 health centers. The variables of this study were the coverage of healthy homes and the incidence of BTA-positive pulmonary TB. The study used a mixed ecological study and Pearson correlation test with secondary data from the Malang District Health Office and BPS. Results: TB incidence showed a decreasing trend alongside increasing healthy home coverage. Nine health centers remained in high-incidence zones, and five exhibited poor housing coverage. Correlation analysis revealed a weak, negative relationship (r = -0.084). High TB incidence was still found in areas meeting healthy home criteria. Conclusions: The incidence rate of BTA-positive pulmonary TB in the working area of the Malang District Health Center showed a downward trend for 3 years. Future research using individual data and other specific risk factors that may influence TB incidence is recommended.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem whose causes include unmet nutrition in pregnant women, lack of infant nutritional intake, and socioeconomic conditions. Dinoyo Health Center covers an area with a high stunting rate in Malang City, particularly Lowokwaru District. Previous research stated that the dominant factor causing stunting in toddlers is antenatal care (ANC). Objectives: This study aims to determine whether stunting in toddlers in the Dinoyo Community Health Center area is caused by the quality and quantity of ANC. Methods: The research method is observational analytic with a case-control design using a retrospective approach. The population was 1643 mothers taken from three villages: Tlogomas, Dinoyo, and Sumbersari. The research sample amounted to 69 people using purpose sampling. The research was conducted in February - March 2023. Quality measurement was based on a minimum 10T service standard, while quantity measurement was based on a minimum frequency of 4 visits using a checklist sheet instrument and MCH book with Chi-Square analysis. Results: The results obtained for ANC quality with stunting p-value = 0.609 with OR value = 1.30 (95% CI: 0.47-3.55), while ANC quantity with stunting p-value = 0.864 with OR value = 1.09 (95% CI: 0.40-2.97). Conclusions: It is concluded that the quality and quantity of antenatal care have no association with the incidence of stunting in children under 24-59 months in the Dinoyo Community Health Center (Puskesmas) area. These findings highlight the need for multifactor interventions beyond ANC to reduce stunting, such as improved maternal nutrition and environmental sanitation.
