Abstract

Low literacy levels in schools have a significant impact on students' difficulties in expressing ideas through speech writing . This study aims to measure the effectiveness of the YouTube-assisted “Copy the Master” method on speech writing skills. Using a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest pattern, the research involved 60 eighth-grade students divided into experimental and control classes . Data were collected through tests and observations, then analyzed using the N-Gain test and Independent Sample T-test . The results showed that the experimental class achieved an N-Gain value of 57.16 (moderately effective), significantly outperforming the control class, which scored 24.47 (ineffective). Statistical tests confirmed a significant difference with a p-value < 0.01. The novelty of this research lies in the integration of expert modeling with audiovisual media, which helps students fully understand structure and linguistic style . It is concluded that this method serves as an effective alternative for improving writing competence in the digital era.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low public speaking skills of students, characterized by a lack of courage to speak, fluency in conveying ideas, and low learning motivation in class presentation activities. This condition requires learning actions that provide active, contextual, and interesting speaking experiences. This study aims to improve public speaking skills and student learning motivation through the implementation of the Role Playing method assisted by Spotify. The study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design which was carried out in two cycles on class 2C students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program at Singaperbangsa University, Karawang, with 30 research subjects. Data collection techniques included speaking skills tests, learning motivation questionnaires, observation, and documentation. The results of the study showed an increase in students' public speaking skills from the initial condition which only got an average score of 57.22, then increased in cycle I with an average of 74.67 and increased in cycle II with an average of 85.00, which was marked by an increase in the average score to exceed the completeness criteria and increased active participation of students in speaking activities. In addition, student learning motivation also increased from the low category to the good category. The study's key findings indicate that the Spotify-assisted role-playing method effectively increased students' speaking confidence and learning engagement. Therefore, the implementation of the Spotify-assisted role-playing method has been proven to significantly improve students' public speaking skills and learning motivation.

Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of the structure and themes of news articles in the online media platforms Kompas.id and Tempo.co. The aim of this study is to identify the news structures and themes found in character education news published in the January–May 2025 editions. The researcher applied a qualitative approach using a descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were news articles from the online media Kompas.id and Tempo.co, while the object of the research was the structure of news articles themed on character education. The results indicate that the analysis of ten character education news articles in Kompas.id and Tempo.co shows that the news articles generally contain complete structural elements, consisting of: headline, dateline, lead, body, and closing. In Kompas.id, four news articles have complete structural elements, while one article lacks complete structure. In Tempo.co, three news articles have complete structural elements, while the other two lack complete structural elements. Both online media platforms present clear main topics supported by relevant subtopics.

Abstract

This research was conducted to reveal the application of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis in naming tourist attractions in Medalsari Village, Karawang Regency. The research applies a qualitative study design, ethnographic methods, and the umbrella of anthropolinguistic studies to uncover the naming story, meaning, and cultural values behind the naming of tourist attractions.  The research results reveal that the naming of natural and cultural tourism objects in Medalsari Village cannot be separated from the role of central figures who contribute to the development of the village. Several tourist attractions have changed names due to commercialization and efforts to revitalize local culture. The names were reconstructed as part of a strategy to attract tourist interest and support the market narrative. This naming process supports the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, which emphasizes that language, culture, and ways of thinking are closely related to people's lives. This research contributes to promoting tourist attractions in Medalsari Village and helps develop teaching materials in higher education. Integrating teaching materials focused on local wisdom can build a learning atmosphere that is more inclusive, interactive, and in line with student needs.  Utilizing teaching materials that are close to students can improve the quality of learning and have an impact on student learning experiences.  Penamaan Objek Wisata Alam dan Budaya di Desa Medalsari Kabupaten KarawangPenelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengungkap penerapan hipotesis Sapir-Whorf dalam penamaan objek wisata di Desa Medalsari, Kabupaten Karawang. Penelitian menerapkan desain studi kualitatif, metode etnografi, serta payung kajian antropolinguistik untuk menganalisis nama, makna, serta nilai budaya di balik penamaan objek wisata.  Hasil penelitian mengungkap bahwa penamaan objek wisata alam dan budaya di Desa Medalsari tidak lepas dari peran tokoh-tokoh sentral yang berkontribusi dalam perkembangan desa. Beberapa objek wisata mengalami perubahan nama dikarenakan adanya komersialisasi dan upaya revitalisasi budaya lokal. Rekonstruksi nama-nama dilakukan sebagai bagian dari strategi untuk menarik minat wisatawan dan mendukung narasi pasar. Proses penamaan ini mendukung hipotesis Sapir-Whorf, yang menegaskan bahwa bahasa, budaya, dan cara berpikir saling berkaitan erat dengan kehidupan masyarakat. Penelitian ini turut andil mempromosikan objek wisata di Desa Medalsari serta berdaya guna dalam pengembangan materi ajar di perguruan tinggi. Pengintegrasian materi ajar berfokus pada kearifan lokal dapat membangun suasana belajar yang lebih inklusif, interaktif, dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan mahasiswa.  Pemanfaatan materi ajar yang dekat dengan mahasiswa dapat meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran serta berdampak terhadap pengalaman belajar mahasiswa.
