Abstract

This article explores the idea of improving the quality of education in the modern era by referring to Jacob Bronowski's thoughts in chapter II: The Harvest of the Seasons contained in the book The Ascent of Man. From the study of this chapter, the researcher found an interesting idea that deserves to be studied more deeply, namely about human development through discovery, creativity, and intellectual ability in The Harvest of The Seasons. This study provides a relevant perspective in the current educational context. As a conclusion from the results of the literature study supported by field studies, Bronowski's approach to human intellectual development at that time can be applied in the modern education system to face the challenges of the digital era and globalization. This study highlights three main perspective of Bronowski, namely: (1) Individual skills of learners grow and develop through an effective and efficient learning process; (2) Improving the learning process and adapting technology that continues to develop; and (3) The quality of education that can improve social welfare. These three points of thought can be used as the basis for the modern pedagogy paradigm, namely for the renewal of the curriculum and teaching methods that are more adaptive and relevant to the needs of the times. The results of this research are expected to contribute to developing an educational model that can improve the intellectual quality of students and prepare them to play an active role in the knowledge society.

Abstract

21st century education demands a learning approach that not only transmits knowledge but also encourages students to actively construct their own understanding through direct involvement and critical thinking. In this context, the discovery learning approach becomes increasingly relevant. Discovery learning was first popularized by Jerome S. Bruner in the 1960s as a learning approach that emphasizes the active process of discovering concepts and principles through exploration and direct experience. This approach is rooted in the theory of constructivism which believes that knowledge is constructed through active interaction with the environment and the cognitive involvement of learners. This study adopts a qualitative approach with a library research type. The main objectives of this study are to examine in depth the principles of discovery learning, explore the possibilities of its application in the digital era, and explore the challenges and limitations in its application.

Abstract

Inequality of access to laboratory facilities is one of the main challenges in science learning in schools, especially in areas with limited infrastructure. This study aimed to describe and analyze the innovation of the Mobile Science Laboratory implemented by an Education Quality Assurance Center in Banten, Indonesia as an alternative solution in expanding access to practical learning. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study type. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews with program managers and documentation analysis. The results of the study indicate that the mobile science laboratory program contributes to expanding access to practical work for students in schools that do not have laboratory facilities, increasing student engagement in science learning, and strengthening teachers' pedagogical capacity. The main challenges in implementation include time constraints, school facility conditions, teacher readiness, and logistics. Supporting factors for the success of the program include the institutional commitment of an Education Quality Assurance Center, adaptive program design, and enthusiasm from target schools. This study recommends integrating the program with teacher training, regional policy support, and developing a replication model in other provinces.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the Vibration Stage as a learning medium in mathematics instruction for deaf students at SLB-B Pangudi Luhur, West Jakarta. Auditory barriers in deaf students require adaptive strategies through multisensory approaches. The Vibration Stage utilizes sound vibrations, rhythm, light, and kinesthetic stimulation to support students’ understanding of mathematical concepts. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach with deaf students as the subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings indicate that the use of the Vibration Stage enhanced students’ attention, comprehension of number concepts, as well as their social and emotional interactions during mathematics learning. This medium also assisted teachers in delivering materials more effectively and interactively, making the learning process more engaging and meaningful. Both students and teachers responded positively, as reflected in active participation, satisfaction, and increased learning motivation. In conclusion, the Vibration Stage proved to be an effective and innovative medium for improving engagement, learning outcomes, and classroom interaction in mathematics education for deaf students at SLB-B. Therefore, it can be considered a feasible alternative to enhance the quality of mathematics learning in special education contexts.

Abstract

Ethnomathematics can be used as an approach to mathematics learning in both primary and secondary schools. The study of ethnomathematics is gaining popularity, but few studies still discuss ethnomathematics extracted from the culture of the people in Riau and Riau Islands. They have cultural similarities, namely Riau Malay. The purpose of this study is to describe and provide an overview of the Riau Malay ethnomathematical studies that have been studied from the Riau Malay lands. The method used in this study is Systematic Literature Review (SLR). This study discusses 13 articles published between 2016-2021. The research results show that ethnomathematical studies have not been spread throughout the Riau and Riau Islands regions. The form of culture revealed in this study is still dominated by community activities. Ethnomathematical studies are still dominantly related to the concept of geometry, which means that most of the activities found are Designing. The limitations of some of these studies can serve as further studies for other researchers to explore the ethnomathematics of elements of Riau Malay culture and other Riau Islands. Keywords: ethnomathematics, Riau Malay and Riau Islands, systematic literature. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v22i2.pp216-225
