Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of digital branding strategies conducted by the Scout organization of Pondok Pesantren MTA through Instagram. In the era of digital transformation, social media plays a critical role in constructing institutional identity and image, including within Islamic educational institutions such as pesantren. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, content observation, and documentation of the Instagram account @pramukaponpesmta. The findings indicate that the account is strategically managed to convey institutional messages, Scouting values, and Islamic educational character consistently. The digital branding strategy includes the use of distinctive visual elements (logos, colors, uniforms), educational narratives in captions, and active interaction with the audience. The content uploaded not only documents activities but also emphasizes character values such as discipline, leadership, and teamwork, which are aligned with the Kulliyatul Mu’allimin Al-Islamiyah (KMI) curriculum. This study concludes that social media can serve as a strategic tool in strengthening pesantren's institutional identity by adapting to the digital sphere. The branding implementation through Pramuka MTA’s Instagram illustrates how Scouting can represent character education values within a modern communication framework.

Abstract

Abstract. According to an article published by Kompas.com, 64% of Generation Z, born between 1995 and 2012, plan to monetize their social media content. Furthermore, the Instagram Trend Report 2023, based on a survey conducted in collaboration with WGSN involving 1,200 Instagram users from Generation Z, revealed that 67%  or 804 respondents intend to use social media as a platform to pursue a full-time career as content creators. However, many members of Generation Z are still unaware of the significant challenges associated with becoming professional content creators. This issue has also been identified by content creators affiliated with AKKuN. These practitioners observed that aspiring content creators often underestimate several important challenges, including the need to produce content that provides positive value and complies with Indonesia's Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE), as well as the importance of developing a distinctive personal branding strategy that can serve as their long-term identity. In response to these issues, this community engagement program organized a workshop consisting of interactive lectures accompanied by hands-on practice sessions on designing social media content and developing personal branding. The workshop was attended by 50 Generation Z participants, aged 18–24 years, representing various universities across the Solo Raya region. The resource persons were members of AKKuN, who served as the program's community partners. The evaluation of the workshop demonstrated that 88% of the 50 participants who attended expressed a commitment to improving the quality of their social media content.

Abstract

This study investigates how Jaranan Thik negotiates cultural identity and adapts communicatively within the Reyog-centered cultural hierarchy of Ponorogo, East Java, Indonesia. Grounded in Cultural Identity Theory and Co-Cultural Communication Theory, it analyzes how a marginalized traditional art community strategically navigates identity through symbolic alignment, structural adjustment, and engagement with institutional actors. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research draws on in-depth interviews with performers, cultural leaders, and community representatives, complemented by documentation and direct observation of performances. The findings identify four key patterns: symbolic assimilation via shared mythological references and terminology; the regulated reframing of trance practices to reshape public perception; religious and institutional affiliations to strengthen moral and structural legitimacy; and aesthetic innovation to attract younger audiences. These adaptive strategies indicate that Jaranan Thik does not merge into the dominant Reyog tradition but instead negotiates recognition through selective alignment while maintaining its essential ritual foundations. By situating the analysis within localized cultural hierarchies, the study broadens the scope of Cultural Identity Theory and Co-Cultural Communication Theory and underscores communicative agency as vital to cultural sustainability.

Abstract

This study investigates science communication processes at Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) using a qualitative multiple case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and document analysis, involving 15 key informants. Analysis employed an explanation-building approach in three stages—data collection, case profiling, and conclusion formulation—supported by triangulation through data cross-checking, member checks, and expert consultations to enhance reliability. Findings show that science communication in these universities forms an ecosystem that integrates communicators, messages, media, receivers, and feedback. Institutional actors act as strategic intermediaries, translating scientific knowledge into accessible, actionable forms. Messages align with national and global priorities and are tailored to audience needs. Communication channels combine formal academic outlets with digital media, public events, and community engagement, ensuring broad reach. Receivers—ranging from policymakers and industry to grassroots communities—participate actively, fostering two-way knowledge exchange and collaborative problem-solving. Feedback loops from internal teams and external stakeholders refine both research and its dissemination. Overall, the study highlights a holistic and impact-oriented framework for science communication in Indonesian higher education, bridging academia, industry, policymakers, and the public. This model strengthens national science communication capacity and offers a replicable strategy for linking research with societal needs.

Abstract

Over the past few decades, there has been a shift in the media industry, where conventional media such as newspapers and television have started to lose their popularity. This change has been accelerated by the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) which is now being used in journalism. The use of AI raises the question of how local journalists respond to this technology: do they see AI as a tool that supports their work, or do they feel threatened by its presence? Using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) theory, this research seeks to explore local journalists' perceptions of AI tools in news processing. The research was conducted using a qualitative method using a case study approach, where data was obtained by conducting interviews with local journalists in Surakarta. The results found include first, AI tools improve journalists' work efficiency by speeding up typing, data search, editing, audio processing, and research, as well as monitoring online news trends. Second, although some AI tools are easy to use, mastering them still takes time and training, especially because AI sometimes makes work more difficult. Third, it is perceived that AI is not yet able to fully maintain the Journalistic Code of Ethics and press regulations need to be updated. However, it is perceived that AI will not violate ethics if humans are in full control.

Abstract

Universities in Indonesia are now actively and ambitiously opening up internationalization opportunities for foreign students to have the opportunity to continue their higher education in Indonesia. This is also done by Sebelas Maret University, marked by the presence of Nigerian students in the Bachelor's program. The arrival of foreign students requires adaptation. This study uses a phenomenological approach to explore the in-depth experiences of Nigerian students in navigating the challenges and barriers of intercultural communication in the campus environment. This study focuses on the theory of accommodation strategies presented by Morrisan & Corry (2009), consisting of three options, namely: convergence, divergence, and excessive accommodation which are part of their adaptation. Using qualitative methods with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews and documentation. The subjects of the study were Nigerian students who had gone through a critical period, namely at least in the fifth semester of the undergraduate education program or who had been students of Sebelas Maret University for two years. The results of the study showed that there was the use of convergence and divergence strategies. And all informants were at the accommodation stage in cultural adaptation.

Abstract

In an effort to accelerate national financial inclusion, Bank Indonesia continues to promote innovation in digital payment systems, one of which is the launch of the QRIS Tap feature based on Near Field Communication (NFC) technology in March 2025. Despite offering convenience, speed, and efficiency, the adoption of QRIS Tap remains limited, necessitating effective communication strategies to achieve broader public acceptance. Social media has been chosen as the primary communication channel due to its ability to reach digital audiences in an interactive and participatory manner. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Bank Indonesia’s communication strategy in promoting QRIS Tap through its official social media accounts. Using a qualitative approach with a single case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews and content documentation analysis of social media posts from March to June 2025. Data validity was ensured using triangulation techniques, and the analysis was conducted through an explanation-building approach. The findings indicate that the communication strategy focuses on the early stages of innovation diffusion, namely awareness, interest, and information seeking. The communication content selectively highlights innovation characteristics such as relative advantage, compatibility, and ease of use. However, aspects such as trialability and observability are still lacking due to infrastructure limitations and a scarcity of user experience-based content. Moreover, efforts to drive action and experience sharing remain minimal due to the gradual communication approach and the underutilization of testimonial-based content production. This study concludes that the implemented communication strategy aligns with the initial stages of innovation diffusion but needs to be strengthened in terms of calls to action and social validation to foster broader adoption.

Abstract

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has significantly impacted journalistic practices, including at the local level. This study explores the perceptions of journalists in Surakarta City regarding the benefits, challenges, and ethical implications of AI use in news production. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with five journalists from various media platforms. The findings reveal that journalists view AI as a supporting tool that accelerates work processes and enhances production efficiency. However, concerns about the degradation of information quality and potential violations of journalistic ethics remain critical issues. AI acceptance is influenced by perceived usefulness, ease of use, and the professionalism values upheld by journalists. This study recommends strengthening digital literacy and updating journalistic ethical regulations to address the challenges of media transformation in the era of artificial intelligence

Abstract

Indonesian universities are mandated to disseminate research and innovations to support national development; however,  a gap persists between knowledge production and its broader societal utilization. This study examines how science communication models operate within research downstreaming at Universitas Indonesia (UI), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) using the deficit, contextual, lay expertise, public engagement, and hybrid models. A qualitative multiple-case study was conducted from September 2024 to January 2025 through in-depth interviews with 15 institutional informants and document analysis. Findings indicate that early downstreaming is largely dominated by deficit-oriented communication through journal outputs and institutional websites that prioritize academic validation and performance indicators, while later stages increasingly employ contextual, participation, and lay expertise models through cross-sector forums, policy interfaces, digital platforms, innovation events, and community service. Importantly, hybrid (multimodel) practices are present across both early and advanced stages, indicating that universities flexibly combine models to meet shifting objectives and stakeholder configurations from validation to adoption. The study concludes that downstreaming involves a communicative reconfiguration where adaptive multimodel strategies are essential to secure credibility, relevance, and uptake.
