Abstract

This study examines the integration of hadith with the local cultures of the Bugis, Makassar, and Mandar communities in the Islamization of South Sulawesi. Unlike previous research that predominantly focuses on the historical or political dimensions of Islamization, this study highlights how the core principles of the Prophet Muhammad’s da‘wah—particularly gentleness (rifq), ease (taysīr), wisdom (ḥikmah), and gradualism (tadarruj)—were translated by early scholars into culturally resonant practices. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, this research analyzes hadith texts, historical sources, ethnographic studies, and empirical data from the da‘wah practices of influential figures : Datuk ri Bandang, Datuk Patimang and Datuk ri Tiro. The findings reveal that Islam was embraced peacefully due to the deep compatibility between Prophetic ethical principles and local cultural values such as siri’ (honor), pacce (solidarity), and sipakatau (human dignity). This harmony is reflected in the Islamized forms of communal traditions, including mabbarazanji, sayyang pattu’du, and other ritual expressions. The study concludes that the success of Islamization in South Sulawesi resulted from adaptive, persuasive, and context-sensitive da‘wah strategies rooted in the Sunnah. These findings offer a compelling model of hadith-based cultural da‘wah that remains highly relevant for contemporary multicultural societies.

Abstract

The Lagosi motif, a prominent design in the traditional fabric of the Wajo district, is well-known but increasingly rare among local weavers. This motif, drawing inspiration from natural elements such as flowers and stems, holds significant philosophical and cultural meaning for the Wajo people, serving as a key element of their endangered cultural heritage. Despite its cultural importance, the motif has been minimally explored in the context of ethnomathematics. Consequently, this study investigates the mathematical concepts inherent in the design of Lagosi motifs, aiming to utilize them as educational tools for students and to support cultural preservation efforts. Employing a qualitative research methodology with an ethnographic approach, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation. The validity and reliability of the data were ensured through triangulation and confirmability. The study reveals that geometric transformations, specifically translation and reflection, play a central role in the creation of Lagosi motifs. These findings highlight the natural emergence of mathematical concepts within local cultural practices, offering potential for their integration into contextualized mathematics education. Furthermore, the results aim to instill a sense of cultural pride in students, thereby contributing to the preservation of Wajo's cultural heritage. The study also underscores the opportunity to leverage Lagosi motifs as culturally relevant educational tools and to foster interdisciplinary collaboration between mathematics and cultural studies.

Abstract

This study aims to identify geometric elements in the cultural activities of Panre Bessi in the Massepe community and to describe their potential as a geometry learning context based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). This research employed a mixed methods approach with a Sequential Exploratory Design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving three Panre Bessi practitioners, as well as HOTS tests administered to 18 Grade VII students of SMP Negeri 2 Tellu Limpoe. The data were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that Panre Bessi activities contain geometric elements, including circular shapes, similarity and scale, ratio and proportion, as well as changes in geometric forms during the blade-forming process. The quantitative results indicated that 11.1% of students were in the high category, 61.1% in the moderate category, and 27.8% in the low category. Students’ analytical ability (C4) was better than evaluation ability (C5), as reflected in the ability to identify geometric elements reaching 83.3%, while the ability to evaluate disproportionate tool shapes only reached 44.4%. Thus, Panre Bessi cultural activities have the potential to be used as a contextual geometry learning setting that supports students’ HOTS, especially in the aspects of analysis (C4) and evaluation (C5).

Abstract

This study aims to identify ethnomathematical activities in tombstone crafts in Allakuang Village, analyze the geometric shapes of tombstones, and explain the production optimization strategies applied by craftsmen from an ethnomathematical perspective. The study uses a qualitative approach with a mathematical ethnographic design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using the Spradley ethnographic model supported by GeoGebra modeling and optimization analysis using POM-QM for Windows. The results show that the ethnomathematical activities found include measuring, counting, locating, and designing. Women's tombstones contain the concepts of symmetry, reflection, irregular polygons, and right prisms, while men's tombstones contain the concepts of polynomial functions, definite integrals, Riemann sums, and volumes of solids of revolution. In addition, craftsmen apply efficiency strategies in the use of raw materials, work time, and labor that can be modeled through linear programming. This study concludes that the practice of making tombstones in Allakuang Village not only represents local cultural heritage, but also contains formal mathematical concepts that have the potential to be used as a source of contextual mathematics learning through an ethnomathematics approach. Keywords: Ethnomathematics, Tombstones, Geometry, Optimization, GeoGebra.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to apply the Hungarian method to the assignment problem in determining the allocation of couriers in the case of delivering goods at PT. Shopee Express Soreang Kota Parepare Hub. The Hungarian method is used to determine the optimal allocation of couriers based on the efficiency of the delivery time of goods so that the total distribution time can be minimized. In its implementation, adjustments were made to the procedures of the Hungarian method to accommodate unbalanced data conditions. Validation of assignment results is carried out using Program for Operations Management-Quantitative Methods (POM-QM) software for Windows to ensure that the solutions obtained through manual calculations match the system's computational results and actually produce optimal values. The results showed that the total average delivery time before optimization of 53.45 minutes could be reduced to 41.80 minutes after the application of the Hungarian method, resulting in a time efficiency of 11.65 minutes. Validation using POM-QM for Windows shows results consistent with manual calculations. Thus, the Hungarian method has proven to be effective in improving the efficiency of courier assignments and minimizing the delivery time of goods.

Abstract

Students in the Mathematics Education Department at IAIN Parepare face substantial challenges in understanding and constructing proofs in Real Analysis due to limited familiarity with proof models, deductive principles, and the formal structures that underpin mathematical arguments. The absence of supporting courses such as Mathematical Logic further restricts their ability to read proof structures and interpret essential symbolic forms, including definitions involving ε–δ. This study developed the S-GeaR (Starting Point, Goals, Idea, References) strategy as a proof-investigation framework designed to guide students in systematically analyzing and reconstructing theorem proofs. Using the ADDIE development model, S-GeaR was designed, validated, and implemented through theorem investigation, collaborative discussions, and structured proof worksheets. Data were collected through tests, classroom observations, and student reflections. Quantitative results show an increase in scores from 58.2 to 76.4. Through the use of S-GeaR worksheets, students demonstrated gradual development in proof-related activities: recognizing proof methods, generating ideas and composing a complete formal proof. Qualitative findings also indicate that the procedural guidance of S-GeaR reduces cognitive load through component mapping and supports the emergence of proof ideas. These results underscore the important role of S-GeaR in strengthening students’ reasoning structure in theorems proofs.
