Abstract

Introduction: Workplace nutrition interventions have emerged as a pivotal strategy for enhancing employee health by addressing dietary behaviors and reducing the risk of non-communicable diseases. This systematic review evaluates the effectiveness of workplace-based nutrition interventions in improving nutritional outcomes and health indicators among employees. Methods: Using the PRISMA framework, a comprehensive search was conducted across PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2020 and 2024. Eligible studies included randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and quasi-experimental designs targeting workplace-based nutrition interventions. A total of 10 studies met the inclusion criteria and were systematically analyzed for outcomes related to dietary behavior, physical activity, and health indicators. Risk of bias assessments were performed to ensure the validity of findings. Results: The findings revealed that dietary interventions, particularly those emphasizing adherence to structured diets like the Mediterranean diet, consistently led to significant improvements in health markers, including reductions in LDL cholesterol and body fat percentage. Interventions combining dietary modifications with physical activity yielded comprehensive benefits, such as weight loss and improved dietary adherence. However, variability in study designs, sample sizes, and contextual factors limited the generalizability of results. Many studies lacked follow-up data to assess the long-term sustainability of health outcomes. Conclusion: Workplace nutrition interventions promote employee health, especially when combining dietary and physical activity components. However, challenges such as methodological heterogeneity, short-term focus, and limited exploration of demographic and contextual factors must be addressed. Future research should prioritize standardized methodologies, conduct longitudinal assessments, and implement tailored interventions that consider workforce diversity and workplace culture. These findings provide actionable insights for policymakers and employers seeking to design sustainable workplace health initiatives that enhance employee well-being and organizational productivity.

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of overweight and obesity among adolescents is a global public health concern. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the frequency of junk food consumption and overweight among students at SMA Negeri 1 Kejuruan Muda, controlling for sociodemographic confounding variables. A cross-sectional design was applied, involving 64 students selected through random sampling. Data collection included sociodemographic characteristics, frequency of junk food consumption using the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), and overweight status measured by Body Mass Index-for-age (BMI/U) using WHO AnthroPlus software. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS version 29, with descriptive data presented as mean and standard error for numerical data and frequency and proportion for categorical data. Logistic regression with an etiological framework was used to analyze the association between junk food consumption and overweight. The results revealed a significant association between the frequency of junk food consumption and overweight (p=0.037). Students who consumed junk food more frequently were 3.817 times more likely to be overweight than those with lower consumption frequencies, even after controlling for sociodemographic variables. These findings indicate that frequent junk food consumption is an independent risk factor for overweight among adolescents. It is recommended to implement school-based nutrition education programs to reduce junk food consumption and promote healthier eating habits.

Abstract

Nutrition problems remain a major public health concern, particularly among young adults. Common nutritional issues include undernutrition (wasting) and overnutrition (overweight and obesity), which can impact academic performance and overall health. Stress levels and sleep quality are known to influence nutritional status, yet limited studies have explored these factors among university students. This study aims to analyze the relationship between stress levels, sleep quality, and nutritional status among students of the Nutrition Study Program. A cross-sectional study was conducted in August 2024 involving students from the 2021 to 2023 grade students. A total of 72 respondents were selected using a proportional sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using a demographic questionnaire, the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS-10) to assess stress levels, and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to measure sleep quality. Nutritional status was determined based on Body Mass Index (BMI) calculations. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, and logistic regression analysis. The chi-square test showed a significant association between stress levels and nutritional status (p = 0.000) and between sleep quality and nutritional status (p = 0.000). Logistic regression analysis further confirmed that stress levels (p = 0.000) and sleep quality (p = 0.004) were significant predictors of nutritional status. These findings highlight the importance of managing stress and improving sleep quality to maintain a healthy nutritional status among students. Future research should explore intervention strategies to mitigate the impact of stress and poor sleep quality on student in nutrition study program.

Abstract

Overweight or obese adolescents tend to consume food without noticing its nutritional content, which results in food selection defects. Adolescent food intake requires full support from the media for nutritional assistance. This study aimed to determine the difference in energy and fat intake before and after nutritional assistance through Diary NutriMe application. This study applied a quasi-experimental method using a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The participants in this study were 36 high school students from MAN Tanjung Balai who were overweight or obese and were selected by purposive sampling. All data were analyzed using a Paired Sample t-test for energy intake (distributed data were normal) and the Wilcoxon test for fat intake (distributed data were non-normal). This study found that the average energy intake after receiving nutritional assistance was 1440.9 ± 195.2 kcal, while the average fat intake was 36.8 ± 10.8 g. According to the paired sample t-test, a significant decrease (p = 0.000) in energy intake was observed after nutritional assistance through Diary NutriMe application. Similarly, the Wilcoxon test showed a significant decrease (P = 0.000) in fat intake after the intervention. Therefore, the Diary NutriMe application is suitable as a nutritional assistant to reduce energy and fat intake in overweight and obese adolescents in MAN Tanjung Balai.

Abstract

Introduction: The prevalence of stunting among children aged 24-60 months is a critical public health concern including in the Puskesmas Siempat Rube working area. Inadequate maternal knowledge about balanced nutrition and inappropriate feeding practices can contribute to the incidence of stunting. Objective: To analyze the relationship between maternal knowledge of balanced nutrition and maternal feeding practice on the incidence of stunting in children aged 24-60 months in the Puskesmas Siempat Rube working area. Method: This cross-sectional study was conducted in December 2023. The research sample consisted of 43 participants selected using purposive sampling. Balanced nutrition knowledge scores were categorized into poor, sufficient, and good; meanwhile, the higher the score for feeding practice, the better the mother's feeding practice was assumed. Height was assessed based on the TB/U indicator and categorized into stunting and not stunting. Hypotheses were analyzed using logistic regression tests, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. Result: The prevalence of stunting in this study was 69.8%. Most mothers had insufficient knowledge of balanced nutrition (90.7%), and the average feeding practice score was 58.4. Maternal knowledge of balanced nutrition and maternal feeding practice are significantly related to the incidence of stunting in children aged 24-60 months in the Puskesmas Siempat Rube working area (p < 0.05). Maternal knowledge of balanced nutrition and maternal feeding practice act as protective factors against the incidence of stunting. The odds of children aged 24-60 months experiencing stunting were 0.056 times lower if their mothers had sufficient knowledge of balanced nutrition compared to mothers with poor knowledge. Similarly, each 1-point increase in a mother's feeding practice score could reduce the incidence of stunting by 0.910 times compared to mothers with a feeding practice score one point lower. Conclusion: Maternal knowledge of balanced nutrition and maternal feeding practice are significantly associated with the incidence of stunting in children aged 24-60 months in the Puskesmas Siempat Rube working area.

Abstract

Background: The MAD in children has an important role in preventing the risk of undernutrition. MAD in children is often associated with MDD in mothers because the mother's consumption pattern continues to feed the child who is born. Objectives: This systematic review aims to examine the relationship between MDD in mothers and MAD in children, and its role in undernutrition prevention. Methods: Articles were selected using the PRISMA method. Articles were obtained from Sciencedirect, Medline, and Embase in the 2017-2022 timeframe without data restrictions. The vocabulary used in the search is "Maternal Dietary Diversity" and "Minimum Acceptable Diet", and undernutrition, and only researched articles in English. Table matriculation was carried out to obtain an overview of the relationship between MDD in mothers and children's MAD in undernutrition prevention. Discussion: Research from 7 selected studies was conducted in five developing countries with high levels of food insecurity. Samples were obtained of 167 to 10,291 children aged 6-59.9 months. Six studies indicate the level of food insecurity in the area studied. Four of the seven studies showed significant results between MDD in mothers with MAD and undernutrition in children. Conclusions: Maternal MDD has a significant role in MAD in children and can be one of the factors that influence undernutrition, especially in developing countries which are highly food insecure.

Abstract

Background: The increasing prevalence of obesity has become a significant public health concern in Indonesia, particularly among urban workers who often lead sedentary lifestyles and adopt unfavorable dietary patterns. Objectives: To analyze the correlation between dietary patterns, physical activity levels, and obesity among urban workers in Indonesia. Methods: Major dietary patterns were derived using principal component analysis from a 17-item food frequency completed by urban workers in the fifth wave of Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS). Self-reported physical activity is assessed by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ). Height and weight were measured to determine nutritional status based on Body Mass Index (BMI), which is then categorized into obese and non-obese urban workers. The association between dietary patterns, physical activity levels, and obesity was analyzed using logistic regression. Results: A total of 10,381 urban workers participated in the study. Four major dietary patterns were identified: a Western dietary pattern characterized by a high intake of fast food, meat, sugary snacks, dairy, and soft drinks; a prudent dietary characterized by fruit and vegetables; a modern dietary pattern characterized by instant noodles, fried snacks, and eggs consumption; and a traditional Indonesian pattern characterized by rice, vegetables, sambal (chili sauce), and fish consumption. Participants adhering to the Western dietary pattern had higher odds of obesity. In contrast, those adhering to the prudent dietary pattern and active physical activity showed lower odds of obesity. Conclusions: Western dietary patterns are associated with an increased risk of obesity, while prudent dietary patterns and active physical activity are inversely associated with obesity in Indonesian urban workers.
