Abstract

As a field of natural sciences that studies living things, biology not only plays an important role but also basis for various essential applied fields such as agriculture, medical, biotechnology and environmental science. However, biology is also a subject that is often reported difficult to learn. This study aims to identify biology concepts that are considered difficult by high school students in Indonesia through a literature review in the form of a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). The results of the analysis of the selected articles show that the concepts that are considered difficult are distributed at all grades in high school level. The concepts of viruses, plantae, animalia, invertebrate, cells, animal tissue structure and function, excretory system, movement system, disorders in the circulatory system, immune system, cell division, metabolism, enzymes, growth and development of organism and plant tissue culture are biological concepts that are considered difficult by high school students. The factors that cause certain biological concepts are difficult to learn as well as the efforts to overcome the difficulties in the biology learning process related to these concepts are analyzed in this study

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the effect of the guided inquiry learning model on students' learning outcomes in the topic of viruses for Class X at SMA N 1 Baitussalam. This research employs a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test post-test control group design using a quantitative approach. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling, where Class X-1, consisting of 28 students, serves as the experimental class, while Class X-2, consisting of 27 students, serves as the control class. The research instrument consists of 20 multiple-choice test questions, and data analysis is conducted using the percentage formula to calculate students' learning outcomes, the N-gain test to measure the improvement in students' learning outcomes, and the Independent Sample T-test using SPSS 27 to test the hypothesis. The data analysis results show that: (1) the average learning outcome of the experimental class is higher at 86.61 compared to the control class, which is 73.33; (2) the N-gain value for the control class is 0.44, while for the experimental class, it is 0.60, indicating that the improvement in learning outcomes in both classes falls into the medium category; (3) the hypothesis testing using the Independent Sample T-Test resulted in a significance value (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.00 < 0.05, leading to the rejection of H0 and acceptance of Hα. This finding indicates that the guided inquiry learning model has a significant effect on students' learning outcomes in the topics of viruses for Class X at SMA N 1 Baitussalam.

Abstract

This study examined the evolution and trends in the use of digital assessment instruments in project-based learning (PBL) in an online learning environment. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted following PRISMA guidelines to ensure transparency and rigor. The review included 44 articles published between 2019 and 2024. The data collection process involved searching using various keywords and platforms such as Scopus and Google Scholar, facilitated by Publish or Perish (PoP), as well as article selection using Rayyan AI and Claude AI to ensure suitability to the study criteria. Data were analyzed using thematic synthesis to identify key patterns and trends in the application of these digital tools. Findings indicated the need for: (1) integration of various assessment modalities for effective online learning, (2) development of pedagogical frameworks that support new technologies, and (3) standardization of digital assessment systems. In addition, the review suggests further research to assess the long-term effectiveness and impact of new technology-based instruments on learning outcomes. The findings provide a comprehensive understanding of the evolution of digital assessment instruments in online learning and provide evidence-based recommendations for future development.
