Abstract

Peningkatan sumber daya kelautan adalah salah satu program utama pemerintah saat ini. Untuk menunjang hal tersebut maka perlu adanya peningkatan SDM didaerah pesisir. Salah satu hal yang sangat dasar dan penting yaitu pengetahuan dasar tentang metode perbaikan dan perawatan mesin. Mahalnya biaya perbaikan dan perawatan mesin darat merupakan salah satu masalah besar yang di alami oleh nelayan, minim dan kurangnya pengetahuan mereka tentang perbaikan dan perawatan mesin mengakibatkan mereka harus mengeluarkan uang yang lebih banyak untuk biaya perbaikan dan perawatan mesin mereka. Untuk itu, pada program pengabdian yang akan dilakukan ini, masyarakat akan dilatihan dan dibimbing tentang metode perbaikan dan perawatan mesin darat. Dengan melakukan pelatihan dan bimbingan ini diharapkan nelayan dapat mandiri dalam perbaikan dan perawatan mesin kapal mereka. Dengan kegiatan pengabdian ini, maka diharapkan para nelayan dapat menghemat biaya perbaikan dan perawatan mesin kapal mereka, disisi lain mesin kapal mereka juga akan lebih tahan dan dapat meningkatkan tingkat produktivitas dan kesejahteraan masyarakat nelayan terutama di tempat pelaksanaan kegiatan ini yakni di Desa Pejala, Kecamatan Penajam, Kabupaten Penajam Paser Utara. Upaya peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat nelayan terkait perawatan mesin darat akan coba diwujudkan melalui program kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) LPPM Institut Teknologi Kalimantan. Dengan kegiatan PKM yang usulkan, diharapkan mampu meningkatkan hasil tangkapan para nelayan. Metode kegiatan yang coba dilakukan pada PKM ini yaitu ceramah dan pembimbingan langsung. Adapun luaran dari kegiatan PKM ini yaitu hasil PKM akan dituangkan dalam karya ilmiah yang akan diseminarkan dalam bentuk prosiding, artikel pada laman LPPM ITK serta akan dipublikasikan kegiatan PKM pada media massa/cetak.

Abstract

Salah satu teknologi saat ini yang banyak digunakan untuk menghasilkan pendapatan yaitu teknologi penyambungan material logam yang biasanya disebut pengelasan (welding). Salah satu contoh produk hasil pengelasan yang kini punya pasar (market) dan menjadi opsi berwirausaha yaitu kanopi rumah. Namun, produk hasil pengelasan lain yang dapat dikomersilkan masih banyak seperti rak sepatu, tiang lampu dan lain-lain. Semakin berkembangnya Kota Balikpapan dengan masifnya pembangunan kawasan perumahan dari tahun ke tahun menjadikan permintaan produk hasil las sangat tinggi. Dengan demikian, untuk memenuhi permintaan pasar yang begitu besar terhadap kebutuhan keahlian mengelas, maka perlu dilakukan pelatihan kepada masyarakat terkait pemanfaatan teknologi pengelasan ini. Dalam hal ini, masyarakat yang menjadi sasaran kegiatan pelatihan dan unjuk kerja teknologi pengelasan yaitu salah satu kelompok masyarakat yang terdapat di Kelurahan Karang Joang. Karang Joang sebagai salah satu kelurahan di kecamatan Balikpapan Utara menjadi salah satu daerah yang memiliki pembangunan perumahan yang sangat tinggi utamanya di wilayah jalan Batu Ratna KM. 11. Terdapat kurang lebih 9 perumahan yang saat ini masih melakukan tahap pembangunan yang terbentang sepanjang ± 3 KM. Olehnya itu, tingkat kebutuhan akan produk hasil las sangat tinggi. Mitra yang akan dijadikan pada kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini yaitu kelompok Pengurus Mushollah Baitussalam Karang Joang KM. 11 yang terdiri dari 20 orang anggota pengurus. Mitra ini dipilih karena anggota pengurus belum memiliki pemahaman dan keterampilan terkait teknologi pengelasan. Selain itu, potensi usaha produk hasil las untuk di kawasan ini sangat tinggi. Mitra diberikan bekal penyuluhan teori teknologi pengelasan dan kewirausahaan. Selain itu mitra berkesempatan unjuk kerja mengelas dan berhasil menghasilkan produk hasil las berupa tiang lampu dari bahan pipa carbon steel sebanyak 15 batang.

Abstract

Setiap kapal sebelum dioperasikan wajib dilakukan pengukuran untuk menentukan ukuran panjang, lebar, dalam dan tonase kapal sesuai dengan metode pengukuran kapal yang telah diatur dalam PM Perhubungan Nomor 8 Tahun 2013 tentang Pengukuran Kapal. Salah satu ukuran utama kapal yang harus dihitung pada kapal yang dibuat adalah Gross Tonage (GT) yang berfungsi untuk pendataan kapal dan system administrasi yang berkaitan dengan pajak, sewa pelabuhan, asuransi dan docking space. Melalui program pengabdian ini kami bermaksud untuk mengadakan pelatihan pengukuran kapasitas Gross Tonage pada kapal nelayan traditional. Manfaat yang diperoleh dari program pelatihan ini adalah peningkatan kemampuan mitra sebagai pemilik kapal dan masyarakat untuk mampu menghitung tonase kapal yang dimiliki. Mitra yang terlibat dalam kegiatan ini adalah nelayan pada Kelompok Usaha Bersama (KUB). Mitra Nelayan Muara Baru di Muara Tunan, Tanjung Tengah, Penajam Paser Utara. Harapannya, para nelayan yang merupakan anggota dari kelompok nelayan tersebut melalui kegiatan ini akan dapat bersinergi dengan pemerintah daerah berkaitan dengan sertifikasi kesempurnaan kapal. Program-program untuk pengembangan kualitas dan peningkatan produksi kapal tradisional dapat berjalan seiring yaitu dengan memanfaatkan data ukuran utama kapal untuk analisa unjuk kerja kapal tradisional.

Abstract

Poros baling-baling kapal memegang peran krusial dalam sistem propulsi, mengalirkan tenaga dari mesin utama ke baling-baling untuk menciptakan daya dorong. Poros ini menopang beban tarik dan puntir yang dapat menyebabkan kegagalan fatik pada material. Fokus utama dalam penelitian ini yaitu ada pada uji tarik Stainless Steel (SS 304), Stainless Steel (SS 316), dan Stainless Steel (SS 316L) sebagai bahan poros baling-baling kapal, dengan tujuan memastikan kecocokannya sesuai standar Badan Klasifikasi Indonesia (BKI). Spesimen uji dibentuk sesuai ASTM A370 dan dianalisis dengan mesin UTM (Universal testing machine). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa SS 304 memiliki kekuatan tarik maksimum 800,4 MPa dengan kekuatan luluh 692,4 MPa, SS 316 dengan kekuatan tarik 769,9 MPa dan kekuatan luluh 553 MPa, serta SS 316L dengan kekuatan tarik 706,2 MPa dan kekuatan luluh 567,5 MPa. SS 304 menonjol sebagai pilihan superior berdasarkan nilai kekuatan. Uji kekuatan tarik telah memenuhi standar BKI, menandakan bahwa SS 304 dapat diandalkan sebagai bahan poros baling-baling. Penelitian ini memberikan wawasan kritis terkait performa material dalam lingkungan maritim, memberikan kontribusi penting pada pengembangan teknologi kapal yang aman dan efisien.

Abstract

To identify the GT of traditional wooden boats built at PPU, an investigation of the GT on the boat is carried out. The GT of the North Penajam Paser traditional wooden ship was identified using domestic regulations issued by the government through the Ministry of Transportation, PM No. 45 of 2021 and PP No. 85 of 2021 concerning PNBP of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation. Before being operated, every ship must be measured to determine the length, width, depth and tonnage of the ship in accordance with the ship measurement method. According to Law number 20 of 1997, "Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) is all Central Government revenue that does not come from revenues taxation". ship data studied for determining gross tonnage, Lpp: 17.76m, LoA: 21.90 m, Lwl: 19.06m, B: 4m, H: 2m, T: 1.40m, Cb: 0.50. Calculating ship tonnage or calculating gross tonnage and net tonnage has two methods, namely the empirical method and the analytical method. The analytical ship GT value is 14.16 and the empirical ship GT is 14.79. The total amount of PNPB on ships based on analytics is IDR 5,600,704.74. The total empirical PNPB amount is IDR 8,43,031.01. The difference between analytical and empirical PNBP is IDR 242,327.01. The difference between GT based on analytical and GT empirical methods is 0.63. the comparison level between the two methods is 4%.

Abstract

Challenges in procuring wood as the primary material for ships have led to a decline in overall quality. Meeting the demands of shipbuilding often involves neglecting consideration for the quality and characteristics of construction materials. Additionally, the shipbuilding process commonly overlooks technical and operational aspects associated with construction specifications. Ship damages frequently result from the selection of wood types, sizes, and ages that do not meet construction criteria or fall below the standards for achieving optimal construction. Many ship constructions are identified that fail to meet the requirements for ensuring the safety and security of the crew, ship, and cargo during operations. This research aims to numerically assess the transverse strength of fishing vessels operating in Penajam Paser Utara using Ansys software. Survey results indicate an average size of fishing boats in this area as 10 – 20  meters in length. 2.6 - 3.5 meters in width, and 1.6 – 2.5 meters in height. Abstract

Many types of bananas are grown in Indonesia, indicating that it is one of the banana producing countries. Banana leaves are processed to make them stronger and more easily absorbed, so they are suitable as a composite mixture. Making banana stems as an alternative reinforcement for composite materials. Use ecologically safe substances and replace synthetic compounds. The aim of this research is to investigate the tensile strength and flexural strength of banana stem material as a composite fiber alloy in ship component materials in accordance with the review of the Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI). The method used is experimental testing with a UTM machine according to ASTM D638-03 standards and ASTM D-790 standards. The results of the test experiments show that the tensile strength and flexural strength of banana stems as a composite and natural material are not yet suitable for use as boat component materials under water (hull skin construction), according to BKI's review, but can be used as an alternative composite material for boat component materials above the water line.

Abstract

The 26.80 meter long tugboat plays a critical role in Indonesia’s maritime operations, particularly in towing and maneuvering vessels between Semayang Port and open sea areas. As part of its operational infrastructure, the vessel relies on fluorescent lighting systems, which are known to be less energy efficient and less durable than modern lighting technologies. This presents a significant operational challenge, particularly in light of rising fuel costs and the global shift toward more sustainable maritime practices. This study addresses the issue of inefficient energy use in onboard lighting systems by evaluating the performance of conventional fluorescent lamps compared to Light Emitting Diode (LED) lighting on tugboats. The objective is to assess and compare both lighting types in terms of energy consumption, lighting uniformity, and compliance with international lighting standards set by classification societies. The research adopts the Zonal Cavity Method (ZCM), which involves dividing the interior of the tugboat into three lighting analysis zones: the High-Ceiling Cavity (HCC), High-Rise Cavity (HRC), and High-Floor Cavity (HFC). Each zone was analyzed to determine the required illumination levels based on standardized guidelines, enabling a systematic comparison of lighting performance between the two technologies. Results indicate that LED lighting systems outperform fluorescent lighting in all evaluated aspects. LEDs provided significantly higher energy efficiency and more uniform lighting distribution across all zones of the tugboat. Additionally, LED systems demonstrated better compliance with minimum illumination levels as outlined in international maritime lighting standards. The study concludes that implementing LED lighting can lead to substantial improvements in shipboard energy efficiency, reduced generator load, lower operational costs, and improved environmental sustainability. These findings suggest that maritime operators should consider transitioning to LED systems as a long-term solution for enhancing energy performance. Future research is recommended to explore the integration of LED systems with renewable power sources such as solar energy, and to evaluate the long-term economic and maintenance benefits across different vessel types and operational profiles.

Abstract

Fishing vessels are specialized ships designed to support commercial fishing operations by integrating various structural and functional elements such as hull dimensions, deck layout, load capacity, crew accommodations, propulsion systems, and supporting equipment. One critical yet often overlooked component of such vessels is the lighting system, which plays a key role not only in ensuring operational safety and visibility but also in enhancing fishing effectiveness, particularly during night operations. Currently, many fishing vessels still rely on conventional fluorescent lighting, which is less energy-efficient and has a shorter operational life compared to modern alternatives such as LED technology. This study addresses the inadequacy of current lighting installations on fishing vessels by proposing a redesigned electrical installation system utilizing LED lamps. The objective is to develop an efficient and functionally optimized lighting plan that reduces energy consumption and operational costs while improving onboard visibility. Additionally, LED lights can serve dual purposes on fishing vessels—not only for general illumination but also as fish-attracting lights, which may contribute to increased catch yields. The research employs the Zonal Cavity Method (also known as the Lumen Method) as the primary analytical approach. This method enables the calculation of illumination levels by considering inter-surface reflectance and dividing each interior space into three distinct zones: the High Ceiling Cavity (HCC), High Room Cavity (HRC), and High Floor Cavity (HFC). Illumination levels are then determined according to established lighting standards for each functional area within the vessel. The results of the analysis demonstrate that LED-based lighting systems significantly outperform fluorescent systems in terms of energy efficiency, uniformity of light distribution, and alignment with lighting standards. Furthermore, the proposed installation plan offers long-term operational benefits, including reduced maintenance requirements and lower power consumption. The findings support the broader adoption of LED lighting in small-scale fishing vessels and suggest further research into integrating solar-based energy systems to enhance sustainability and self-sufficiency in future vessel designs.

Abstract

The safety of the ship block lifting process is always a serious concern during the assembly of ship blocks. The block/structure and equipment must not be damaged during the lifting process. This study aims to determine the structural response values that occur with various hole diameter sizes of the lifting lug during the ship block lifting process. The object of this research is a ship block from the new construction of the Ferry Ro-Ro 1500 GT. The method used is numerical simulation based on finite element method (FEM) software. The simulation is conducted to obtain the stress and deformation values for each size of the lifting lug. The selected ship block load is the largest ship block load, which is 52,380 tons. The number of lifting lugs used in the simulation is 5, with varying diameters of 53, 58, 63, 68, and 73 cm. Based on the simulation results, the diameter of 63 mm gets the minimum normal and shear stress figures. While the minimum von misses stress figure is shown by the variation of the diameter of 73 mm. While the smallest deformation figure is shown by the variation of the diameter of 53 mm. In general, all variations of lifting lug holes can still be applied with the note that the weight of the load must be considered.
