Abstract

Adolescent psychiatry reveals that 95.4% of adolescents aged 16-24 exhibit anxiety symptoms, and 88% show signs of depression, largely due to excessive social media use, resulting in character decline and apathy. This study explores the role of early character building in improving the formation of ethics in children in Sarolangun Regency, addressing concerns related to the negative effects of social media. A qualitative, descriptive approach was employed to investigate how habituation practices contribute to the development of student ethics. The study focused on five schools in Sarolangun Regency: SDIT AL Fatih, SDIT Rahmatul Ummah, SDIT AL Kahfi, SDN 1, and SDIT AS-Salam. Data collection involved interviews and observations of students, teachers, and parents to assess their roles in ethical development. The findings demonstrate that while technological advancements offer various benefits, they also introduce significant challenges, particularly in the realm of student behavior. Teachers actively work to mitigate the negative impacts of social media by providing guidance, instruction, and education on its dangers. Additionally, parents play an essential role in fostering ethical behavior, contributing significantly to children's moral development through consistent support and proper guidance. Both educators and parents are pivotal in guiding students' ethical growth amidst the increasing influence of social media. The combined efforts of these stakeholders ensure that children develop strong ethical foundations, helping counteract the potential negative impacts of technology. The study highlights the importance of early ethical education and the need for collaboration between teachers and parents to effectively guide children in the responsible use of social media.

Abstract

Community engagement serves as a vital bridge between the academic sphere and social reality. The community is the ideal partner in applying, developing, testing, and evaluating theoretical-conceptual ideas. However, community engagement within State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (Perguruan Tinggi Keagamaan Islam Negeri, PTKIN) appears to be limited to a service-oriented paradigm, predominantly focused on religious services. This study examines these patterns through a qualitative-descriptive approach involving documentary analysis from Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga, UIN Alauddin Makassar, UIN Batusangkar, and the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs. Employing textual interpretation, comparative analysis, and critical reflection, the research identifies an outdated paradigm in PTKIN's community engagement, one that fails to adapt to shifting societal realities. The evolving nature of society necessitates a corresponding shift in the conceptual and practical framework of community engagement. A paradigmatic transformation is essential if community engagement at PTKIN is to remain relevant and contributive both to the university and the broader society.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low value of science learning outcomes for students who are slow to learn, compared to those of their peers. This study aims to investigate how the collaborative constructivist approach can enhance science learning outcomes and effectively apply it to meet the learning needs of students who are slow learners. The method used is an experimental quasi-design in the form of a Nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study consisted of 42 children, divided into 18 children from 2 treatment elementary schools and 24 children from 2 control elementary schools. Data was obtained from the results of the Pretest and post-test. The use of non-parametric statistical analysis techniques involves two statistical test techniques: the Mann-Whitney test and the Wilcoxon signed rank test. The study results indicate that the collaborative constructivist approach can enhance natural science learning outcomes for children with learning difficulties in inclusive elementary schools. Proven through the analysis test of the Mann-Whitney statistical test and the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test, the result is significant at 0.000 < 0.05. means there is a practical difference in improving natural science learning outcomes. Thus, teachers need to be equipped with related training on mastering the collaborative constructivist approach in teaching slow learners in inclusive elementary schools to strengthen their mastery of concepts and the development of the potential possessed by slow learners, as needed, and to enable them to enjoy the presence of other children socio-psychologically.

Abstract

The urgency of this article is the increase in the prevalence of socio-emotional problems faced by elementary school children in the modern era. This study used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to identify, evaluate, and synthesize critically the empirical findings regarding emotional management in elementary school-age children in the context of modern life. Scientific articles used were those published between 2015 and 2024, and articles indexed in Scopus and Sinta databases. Moreover, studies that explicitly discuss emotional management in 6-12-year-old children were also included. The results of the study indicated that emotional management strategies for children have been developed globally, yet their implementation remains uneven at the local level. Three main findings for effective strategies that frequently emerge are emotional management strategies, with 44 articles (31.65%). Common challenges were reported in 42 articles (30.14%), such as a lack of teacher training in managing students' emotions. Solutions involving teacher training regarding emotion and their regulations were reported in 21 articles (29.19%). This functions as a solid foundation to understand how children's emotional education should be developed, not only taught.

Abstract

Indonesia’s cultural and ethnic diversity in schools requires teachers to develop strong pedagogical competencies that foster cultural awareness. This study aims to (1) conduct sociocultural pedagogy socialization using a cultural awareness model for teachers at SDS Eka Cipta Kencana, (2) provide assistance in implementing multicultural pedagogy within classroom practices, and (3) evaluate the effectiveness of the socialization and assistance activities. The research employed a qualitative community-based research (CBR) design involving 13 teachers and 261 students, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data were validated using source and technique triangulation to ensure credibility. The results show that multicultural pedagogy at SDS Eka Cipta Kencana has not been fully integrated into the formal curriculum but is implicitly practiced through teachers’ personal approaches that embrace local cultural contexts. Socialization and mentoring activities enhanced teachers’ understanding of multicultural pedagogy and fostered tolerance among students of diverse backgrounds. Rather than being confined to structured lessons, cultural awareness emerged through everyday interactions that validated students’ diverse identities. This suggests that in remote schools, diversity is not merely a backdrop but an active force that shapes more inclusive and humane forms of education. This study contributes to strengthening pedagogical practices in remote schools by offering a model of multicultural pedagogy grounded in cultural awareness that can inform future teacher development programs.
