Abstract

Abstract

Jalan Teuku Umar is main road segment in Bandar Lampung city that has a crucial role to support the mobility and economic activity. However, high traffic volume and U-Turn existence can contribute to traffic jam which may decrease the performance of the traffic. This study aims to evaluate the traffic management scenarios, which can be applied on Jalan Teuku Umar, using Analytic Hierarchy Process method. The evaluation can be a consideration for policy making in traffic management. Furthermore, the scenarios that is evaluated in this study are U-Turn closing, U-Turn N-S and S-N relocating to 30 m to north and 40 m to south, respectively, and U-Turn S-N relocating 195 m to north. Those scenarios are compiled from the latest study using microsimulation approach. The study is conducted using 6 (six) criteria, which consist of traffic performance, cost, comfort, saety, environment impact and social impact. The survey involves several experts to respond the questionnaire. The results show that traffic performance is dominant criteria and the third scenario, which relocating U-Turn S-N 195 m to north, is chosen as the most appropriate management scenario for the U-Turn. The study is expected to be a reference for local government to formulate the policy related traffic management, hence the traffic system becomes more effective, efficient and sustainable.

Abstract

Based on direct observations at the pelican crossing located on Jalan Raden Intan, Bandar Lampung, despite the presence of pedestrian crossing facilities, many vehicle users do not stop or give way to pedestrians. Additionally, there are issues with pedestrian behavior, including disorderly crossing. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the effectiveness of the pelican crossing on Jalan Raden Intan, Bandar Lampung, based on public perceptions, pedestrian crossing volume, the impact of traffic on pedestrians, the adequacy of crossing facilities, and to propose improvements for the pelican crossing. The analysis was conducted using questionnaires with indicators of safety, comfort, security, convenience, and accessibility. Effectiveness analysis was performed using PV2 calculations and traffic impact analysis on pedestrians. The results from the questionnaires indicated that the pelican crossing is very ineffective in terms of safety, comfort, security, convenience, and accessibility. The PV2 value of 1.46 x 109 suggests that Jalan Raden Intan, Bandar Lampung, requires a pelican crossing with a waiting area. The effectiveness analysis yielded scores of 54.66% and 50.44%, indicating that the pelican crossing at the observed location is categorized as ineffective. The traffic impact analysis showed that vehicle speeds before, during, and after the crossing do not decrease significantly, only reducing the speed of vehicles in the presence of pedestrians. Recommendations from this study include planning pedestrian crossings for individuals with special needs.

Abstract

The escalating global health crisis of antibiotic resistance necessitates the search for novel antibacterial agents from natural sources. This study investigated the potential of Plantago major L., a plant used in traditional medicine, as a source of antibacterial compounds. It aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of its ethanol extract and its polarity-based fractions against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Dried P. major L. leaves were extracted with ethanol using maceration. The crude extract was then fractionated using a sequential liquid-liquid extraction with hexane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol. The antibacterial activity of the extract and all fractions was tested against S. aureus (ATCC 25923) and E. coli (ATCC 25922) using the broth microdilution method to determine the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). Results revealed distinct antibacterial profiles based on fraction polarity. The ethyl acetate fraction exhibited the strongest activity against S. aureus with an MIC of 0.104 mg/mL, indicating the presence of potent semi-polar compounds like flavonoids effective against gram-positive bacteria. Conversely, the n-butanol fraction was most effective against E. coli with an MIC of 3.3 mg/mL, suggesting the role of hydrophilic compounds such as saponins in disrupting the more complex gram-negative membrane. The crude ethanol extract showed lower activity, confirming the critical role of fractionation in concentrating the bioactive compounds. Plantago major L. possesses significant antibacterial potential, with its active compounds concentrated in specific polarity-based fractions. These findings validate its traditional use and support its further development as an alternative therapy in the face of growing antibiotic resistance.

Abstract

Indonesia continues to face challenges in optimizing tax revenue, as indicated by a low tax ratio of 12.1%, which is far below both the OECD and Asia-Pacific averages. This condition may be associated with low tax compliance and aggressive tax planning by corporations, particularly multinational firms. Nevertheless, prior studies primarily employ conventional tax aggressiveness proxies such as effective tax rate which may obscure discretionary tax behavior at the sectoral level. This study investigates tax aggressiveness in basic material companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, by examining the role of transfer pricing, thin capitalization, capital intensity, and sales growth during the 2019–2024 period. By employing Discretionary Permanent Differences (DTAX) as a proxy for tax aggressiveness, this study captures discretionary components of permanent book tax differences that are closely linked to tax-planning choices, making it theoretically consistent with agency theory. The study conducts 168 firm-year observations from 28 companies and applies panel data regression under Common Effect Model with Estimated Generalized Least Squares (EGLS). The results indicate that thin capitalization exerts a negative and statistically significant linkage on tax aggressiveness, indicating that despite the potential tax benefit of interest deductions, regulatory oversight reduces the likelihood of using debt as an aggressive tax strategy. In contrast, transfer pricing and sales growth exhibit positive coefficients, while capital intensity shows a negative coefficient, but are statistically insignificant when tested individually. This study presents an evaluation of the effectiveness of government tax policies in encouraging more cautious and compliant corporate tax planning.

Abstract

This paper analyzes the impacts of othering on human-ghoul hybrids in Tokyo Ghoul and the coping mechanisms they develop to deal with the impacts. The topic was chosen because the text’s plot is directly driven by the impacts of othering. The applied concepts are taken from Said’s “othering”, Bhabha’s mimicry, hybridity & ambivalence, and Glissant’s rhizomatic identity. The main impacts of othering are alienation and aggression. Alienation forces hybrids into a normless state, in which they are powerless. They become more aggressive to resist threats posed by humans and ghouls. The main coping mechanism developed by the hybrids is to build identities that mimic the pure parties. In conclusion, the hybrids experience othering. Therefore, they are alienated and are forced to become aggressive to resist the othering. The aforementioned factors impact the hybrids negatively. Thus, they cope by mimicking the norms of the “self” to develop rhizomatic identities.
