Abstract

Adolescence is a crucial period because it is a transition to adulthood. Adolescents in general are different from orphaned adolescents because they receive guidance from their parents. Meanwhile, orphaned adolescents experience many heavier things because they grow up without parents, which makes them lose their direction in life and have difficulty achieving spiritual well-being. If traced further, the achievement of spiritual well-being is the desire of everyone, including orphaned adolescents. However, the dynamics that they go through are not easy and are full of various obstacles and risks. For this reason, the purpose of this study is to determine the portrait of the spiritual well-being of orphaned adolescents. The method used in the research is qualitative with an interpretative phenomenology design. The participants were 3 orphaned teenagers using a purposive sampling technique with the criteria of 18 years old to 22 years old and having been orphaned since childhood. The findings of this study are the existence of self-awareness in orphaned adolescents that allows them to connect with themselves, the emergence of forgiveness, the ability to regulate emotions, and self-acceptance. This research can be an illustration for orphaned adolescents so that in the future they can continue to develop spiritual well-being in their daily lives to have a more prosperous life. Apart from that, support from the surrounding environment is also expected to be one of the important parts that can facilitate orphaned adolescents to be able to help them assess themselves to be meaningful and can continue to live a better life than before.

Abstract

Engaging in organizational activities fosters individual growth; nonetheless, active participation necessitates individuals to invest their time, energy, cognitive effort, perseverance, and motivation. This correlational study aims to examine the relationship between self-esteem and academic resilience among student council functionaries in vocational high schools in Salatiga. By employing the quota sampling technique, a total of 143  student councils functionaries from six vocational high schools were recruited as participants Data were collected using the Self-esteem Inventory and the Academic Resilience Scale (ARS-30) and analyzed utilizing the Pearson Product Moment correlation coefficient.   The result demonstrated a positive, significant relationship between self-esteem and academic resilience (r = 0.363 α= 0.000). In other words, self-esteem emerges as a contributing factor to increased academic resilience among student council functionaries in vocational high schools in Salatiga. It is necessary for the schools to provide a problem-solving-based program to improve the self-esteem of students engaging in student council activities. Having a higher level of self-esteem, students will likely possess higher academic resilience.

Abstract

Suicide ideation among adolescents has emerged as a pressing global health crisis, with recent national surveys in Indonesia reporting that over 1% of youth experience such thoughts and many face related mental health challenges. This study explores the dynamics and influencing factors of emotional intelligence (EI) in adolescents who experience suicide ideation. Employing a qualitative case study design, five participants aged 15–22 years with a history of suicide ideation were purposively selected. Data were gathered through in-depth, semi-structured interviews guided by Goleman’s EI framework and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. Results reveal that all participants exhibited underdeveloped EI, characterized by difficulties in recognizing and regulating emotions, limited self-control during emotional crises, and impaired relationship skills. Key factors shaping these EI patterns included negative parenting, traumatic experiences, and insufficient social support. Despite these challenges, some adolescents demonstrated adaptive coping through creative expression and supportive relationships. The findings highlight the importance of family and community support as protective factors and underscore the need for targeted interventions to enhance EI and resilience in vulnerable youth. This study contributes critical insights for mental health practitioners and educators aiming to prevent adolescent suicide.

Abstract

Work-family conflict (WFC) is a common phenomenon experienced by women who undergo dual roles as workers and family members. This study aims to explore the experiences and contributing factors of WFC among married Muslim women who undertake dual responsibilities in work and family domains. This research used a qualitative approach with a case study design. The participants in this study were ten Muslim women who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive analysis technique. The results showed that participants experienced difficulties dividing time between work and family, psychological pressure due to high work demands, and the influence of work stress on family interactions. Despite facing the challenges of WFC, participants showed adaptation strategies, such as effective time management, separation of roles between work and family, and utilization of technology to support work and family life balance. Support from spouses and family also played an essential role in helping participants navigate their dual roles. In addition, the motivation to keep working is not only based on economic aspects but also on fulfilling psychological and social needs. This study provides insight into the dynamics of WFC in Muslim women as well as strategies that can be used to overcome these challenges.

Abstract

Adolescents who have committed self-harm often face emotional distress that affects the problem of the meaning of life. This study aims to determine the relationship between dark triad personality and resilience with the meaning of life in adolescents who have committed self-harm. The research method uses a quantitative approach with a multiple correlation analysis design. The sample was early to late adolescents aged 15-21 years who had committed self-harm for one month and had stopped self-harm behavior. The sample involved 434 people and was obtained using incidental sampling. The research instruments consisted of the Short Dark Triad (SD3), the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), and the Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ). The results majorly prove that there is a significant relationship between dark triad personality and resilience in the meaningfulness of life of adolescents who have committed self-harm (F change = 142.881 and sig. = 0.000). The results of the first minor research found that resilience is significantly related to the meaningfulness of life (r = 0.630 and sig. = 0.000). However, the results of the second minor research found the dark triad personality does not show a significant relationship to the meaningfulness of life where Machiavellianism (r = 0.024 and sig.= 0.312), narcissism (r = 0.048 and sig. = 0.173), and psychopathy (r = 0.048 and sig. Instrumen penelitian terdiri dari Short Dark Triad (SD3), Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC), dan The Meaning in life (MLQ).

Abstract

A mother plays a significant role and responsibility in her child's life, as her attention and affection facilitate many aspects of the child's development. The loss of a mother's role can lead to sorrow that results in disappointment and frustration for children entering their teenage years, which can if held for a long time, affect their overall life satisfaction. To help adolescents avoid negative evaluations regarding the absence of a mother’s role, it is necessary for them to better understand themselves through the application of self-compassion and unconditional acceptance of themselves. This study aims to determine the predictor of self-compassion and self-acceptance together on the subjective well-being of adolescents who have experienced motherlessness since childhood. The research method used is quantitative with a multiple regression analysis design. A total of 203 adolescents who have experienced being motherless since childhood were recruited as participants using the purposive sampling technique. The research measurement used the Self-Compassion Scale (SCS) for the self-compassion variable, the Unconditional Self-Acceptance Questionnaire (USAQ) for the self-acceptance variable, and the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule (PANAS) paired with the Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS) for the subjective well-being variable. The research results show that the major hypothesis is accepted (F = 29.980 and sig. = 0.000), which is that self-compassion and self-acceptance have a predictor on subjective well-being in adolescents who have experienced motherlessness since childhood. Minor hypothesis 1 is accepted (r = 0.465 and sig. = 0.000), which states that self-compassion predictor subjective well-being in adolescents who have experienced motherlessness since childhood, while minor hypothesis 2 is rejected (r = 0.042 and sig. = 0.528), indicating that self-acceptance does not predictor subjective well-being in adolescents who have experienced motherlessness since childhood. This indicates that the state of subjective well-being in adolescents who have lost the role of a mother since childhood can be influenced by the application of love and unconditional acceptance towards oneself. However, another finding in this study indicates that only self-compassion has a direct predictor, while self-acceptance has no direct predictor on the subjective well-being of adolescents who have experienced motherlessness since childhood.

Abstract

Sexual dating violence (SDV) is a global public health concern affecting a significant proportion of adolescents, with prevalence estimates ranging from 20% to 50% worldwide and disproportionately impacting young women. In Indonesia and other Southeast Asian contexts, disclosure remains limited due to stigma and cultural barriers, leaving many adolescents isolated in unsafe relationships. Against this backdrop, this study aimed to explore how adolescent victims of SDV navigate conflict resolution within their intimate relationships and identify the psychological, interpersonal, and social factors shaping their strategies. Using a qualitative instrumental narrative design, five adolescent females aged 15–22 who had experienced SDV and received at least one year of psychosocial support were recruited through purposive sampling. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews and field observations and analyzed thematically using Braun and Clarke’s framework. The findings revealed four key themes: (1) reliance on withdrawal as the most frequent conflict resolution strategy, (2) the entrapment of emotional dependence counterbalanced by gradual growth in regulation skills, (3) conflict involvement characterized by cycles of escalation and gaslighting, and (4) the pivotal role of social and emotional support in resilience and recovery. The study highlights that conflict resolution in SDV contexts is less about repairing relationships and more about survival, agency, and dignity, offering theoretical reframing and practical implications for trauma-informed interventions.
