Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of tazkiyatun nafs values in contemporary Islamic education from the perspective of Imam al-Ghazali, specifically within the book Ayyuhal Walad. The primary background of this research is the moral crisis, materialism, and the dichotomy of knowledge within modern educational systems. The method employed is qualitative library research with a descriptive-analytical approach, incorporating textual, contextual, and intertextual interpretations of al-Ghazali's thoughts. The results indicate that tazkiyatun nafs serves as a practical-applicative methodology in seeking knowledge, rather than merely an ethical theory. Three systematic stages relevant to contemporary education were identified: Takhalli (purification from blameworthy traits such as intellectual arrogance and worldly orientation), Tahalli (internalization of sincerity and respect for knowledge and teachers), and Tajalli (the actualization of spiritual values in real-world behavior). The gap analysis reveals that current education suffers from axiological and epistemological dryness, where highly educated graduates often lack moral integrity. Al-Ghazali provides a solution through five primary advisory points in Ayyuhal Walad, including time optimization and the integration of knowledge with deeds. The conclusion emphasizes that the implementation of tazkiyatun nafs is a fundamental solution to address the spiritual crisis in modern Islamic education. Education must not only focus on Intelligence Quotient (IQ) but must be rooted in soul purification to cultivate insan kamil (the perfect human). Practical recommendations for Islamic educational institutions include integrating a Sufism-based character curriculum that prioritizes role modeling and the process of heart purification as the core foundation of all learning activities to navigate increasingly complex contemporary challenges.

Abstract

Teachers’ strategies for fostering Islamic character in students are essential for educational institutions, particularly Islamic schools; however, at MA Nurul Munawarah, there are still some students who engage in behaviors contrary to the Islamic character expected of a student. This study aims to determine the strategies teachers use to foster Islamic character at MA Nurul Munawarah in Tumbang Lahung Village. This study employs a qualitative approach using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and documentation. The results indicate that through various routine guidance programs such as congregational Dhuha prayer, group Quran recitation, religious lectures, and other religious activities which are not only participated in by students but also by teachers as their mentors, students’ active engagement in these religious activities demonstrates that consistent routine-based strategies can instill Islamic values. The main factors that can influence students’ Islamic character include the family, community, and school environments. This study concludes that the implementation of teachers’ strategies is crucial in fostering Islamic character through various methods, such as setting a good example and instilling religious activities, thereby aligning with the school’s Islamic-based vision and mission.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: Insect visitors to oil palm flowers, an important component in the pollination process and ecosystem services, are evaluated for their diversity in this study. The research explores their potential as a resource for environment-based learning rooted in local contexts within smallholder plantations, aiming to raise awareness and support sustainable education practices in the community. Methodology: Insects were collected using sweep nets, yellow pan traps, and direct observation. Identification was conducted using a Nikon SMZ445 stereo microscope and reference to entomological keys. Data analysis was carried out descriptively, focusing on species composition and abundance. An e-pocket book was developed as a learning resource. Main Findings: The results showed a total of 50 morphospecies of insect visitors on both male and female oil palm flowers. The number of insect species visiting male flowers was higher, consisting of 38 morphospecies belonging to 21 families and 10 orders. The results of the study were developed into a local wisdom-based pocket book focused on the diversity of insect visitors to oil palm flowers in smallholder plantations. The learning resource was validated by content experts, design experts, media experts, and students, with an average score of 81.7%, indicating it is highly suitable for use in environment-based education. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study highlights insect diversity in smallholder oil palm plantations, which is rarely documented. It also links ecological data with educational applications, providing a model for utilizing local biodiversity as a teaching resource in environmental and biology education.
