Abstract

Scientific reasoning skills are a crucial competency to be developed in 21st-century education. This research aims to analyze the profile of pre-service elementary teachers' scientific reasoning skills. This study employs a survey conducted on students in public and private universities in Indonesia. The data collection technique utilizes a three-tier multiple-choice test. The data analysis technique is descriptive. The results of the analysis indicate that the scientific reasoning skills of pre-service elementary teachers are in the low category, with their level of confidence in solving the problems also being low. These findings imply the necessity of developing scientific reasoning skills as an effort to enhance the higher-order thinking skills of pre-service elementary teachers.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the competence of science teachers under MGMP IPA Semarang in developing the ASYIIK practicum guidebook (Innovative Science Activities in Chemistry Education). This initiative was based on the limited use of innovative and curriculum-based practicum guides, as well as the challenges many teachers face in designing engaging and applicable practicum activities. The training involved 60 teachers from 9 schools and was conducted through forum group discussions (FGD), guidebook reviews, and structured monitoring and evaluation. Activities included material presentation, mini-practicum sessions, and assignments related to guidebook development. The results showed that over 78% of participants successfully created practicum guidebooks that met the established criteria, indicating a significant improvement in their competence. The program produced several outcomes, including a publication in a nationally accredited SINTA 4 journal, electronic media coverage, a video highlight, and copyright registration. These findings suggest that the ASYIIK approach fosters contextual learning, integrates 21st-century skills, and improves students’ motivation and understanding in chemistry learning. In conclusion, the program reinforces the role of teachers as innovative and relevant designers of meaningful learning experiences.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the importance of civic engagement in the Indonesian national curriculum through a literature review approach. Civic engagement is a key element in building students' national identity, character, and social competence. Integrating civic engagement into the curriculum is essential for preparing young generations to become active, critical, and responsible citizens, both nationally and globally. The literature review method used in this study involves identifying, analyzing, and synthesizing scientific articles, research reports, and policy documents from national and international sources published between 2015 and 2025. The findings reveal that although civic engagement has been partially incorporated into the curriculum, it remains largely confined to specific subjects and extracurricular activities without cross-disciplinary integration. Several challenges hinder the optimal implementation of civic engagement, including insufficient teacher training, an overemphasis on cognitive assessments, infrastructure disparities, lack of clear policy guidelines, and limited community involvement. Addressing these issues requires systematic efforts such as enhancing active learning methods, balancing cognitive and experiential assessments, providing equitable infrastructure, and fostering stronger collaboration between schools and communities. This study underscores the urgent need for comprehensive and structured integration of civic engagement across the curriculum to develop a generation capable of upholding democratic values and contributing positively to a diverse, interconnected world.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a digital diagnostic assessment on the topic of work and energy using Rasch Model analysis. The instrument is designed to identify students’ misconceptions and learning difficulties more accurately. The research applies the Research and Development (R&D) approach with a modified 3-D model, consisting of four main stages: define, design, develop, and implementation. The validity and reliability of the instrument were analyzed using the Rasch Model through Winstep software. The results show that the instrument has a high validity level (V-Aiken > 0.8) and a strong reliability index of 0.89. The analysis also identified five items categorized as high-level, two as medium-level, and three as low-level instruments. Furthermore, the practicality test indicates that the instrument is easy to use, engaging, and accessible through multiple digital devices. Overall, the developed digital assessment tool proves to be effective in supporting teachers to conduct more efficient evaluations, providing a clearer understanding of students’ conceptual grasp in physics. This tool not only enhances the accuracy of assessment but also contributes to improving students’ comprehension of the work and energy concepts through interactive and technology-based learning approaches.

Abstract

This research is article review research aimed at exploring integrated natural science learning research with the local potency to improve students' environmental care attitudes published in journal articles and proceedings for 2010-2021 and categorized based on research year, research location, research institution, and subject school level. This study uses a literature review with 63 articles. The results showed that a lot of research took place in 2020 with 10 articles, mostly conducted in Indonesia with 56 articles, researched mostly by College Institution institutions with as many as 27 authors, and mostly carried out at the junior high school level with 32 articles. This article’s review shows that research on local potency to improve environmental care attitudes is still lacking and needs to be investigated further.

Abstract

Critical thinking ability is one of the core skills that must be developed in elementary school education, considering its importance in forming analytical thinking and effective problem solving. The right learning model can be the key to facilitating the development of students' abilities. This research aims to identify the role of learning models in improving students' critical thinking abilities, by emphasizing the importance of these abilities in the current educational context. The literature review method is used to collect data from various related literature sources. This type of research is analytical descriptive which examines theories about learning and critical thinking. The results of the literature review show that the application of relevant learning models can significantly influence the development of students' critical thinking skills, especially through student-centered learning (Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), flipped classroom, and technology-based learning), collaborative learning (jigsaw and integration STEM), and the use of problem solving models (Problem Based Learning (PBL), inquiry-based learning, and project-based learning). The implication of this research is the importance of integrating learning models that support the development of critical thinking in learning design in schools. This research provides a strong theoretical basis for the development of more effective learning strategies in the context of elementary school education. Further research is recommended to empirically test the effectiveness of these learning models in different classroom contexts.

Abstract

Child-friendly education in elementary schools is not just about transferring knowledge or content. The rapid development of science and technological advances will have major consequences. Not only are the needs of society changing, but it also becomes a vehicle for internalizing character that originates from the values and culture of society. This concept gives rise to logical consequences, namely that every learning process, whatever the topic, must integrate cultural values as character education content, including social studies and science learning. One of the cultural elements that can be integrated in social studies and science learning is ethnoscience (indigenous public science) which is child-friendly for elementary school students. Ethnoscience is an original science (a community's knowledge system). Analysis of the literature shows that the integration of the ethnoscience approach can help the process of learning social science for students in elementary schools by paying attention to their special needs, facilitating the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and enriching the learning experience through the integration of local, traditional, and contextual knowledge. However, the challenges in integrating this approach, such as a deep understanding of students' cultural diversity and the development of relevant curricula, also need to be considered. Taking these findings into account, further research can develop strategies and best practices in implementing an ethnoscience approach in science learning in elementary schools, creating a meaningful learning environment for all students.
