Abstract

Coronavirus disease or COVID-19 was first discovered in Wuhan, China and spreads through respiratory droplet transmission with various clinical characteristics that are often encountered such as fever and cough, shortness of breath, myalgia and nausea/vomiting according to the severity of COVID-19 patients. The severity of clinical characteristics in COVID-19 patients can be influenced by factors of age, comorbidities, gender, immunocompromised status, occupation (healthworkers), and vaccination status. This research is for knowing the differences in the clinical characteristics of vaccinated and unvaccinated COVID-19 patients at University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta students. This study uses an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach and was carried out on students at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta who were confirmed to have COVID-19 using a google-form questionnaire as primary data. Data were analyzed using chi-square test. The symptoms of COVID-19 such as fever, cough, common cold, myalgia, anosmia or rash did not show a significant difference. Meanwhile, the symptoms of nausea/vomiting were found in individuals who had not been vaccinated more than individuals who had been vaccinated (p = 0.002). There was no significant difference in clinical characteristics of COVID-19 patients who had been vaccinated or had not been vaccinated, except for complaint of nausea/vomiting.

Abstract

HIV is a global health problem still challenging in almost all parts of the world, including Indonesia. HIV AIDS cases in Indonesia continue to increase from year to year. HIV is characterized by a progressive decline in the immune system that contributes to the clinical progression of the disease. Hematological alterations can result from the consequences of HIV. This study aimed to determine hematologic alteration in HIV patients as a predictor of disease severity. The study design was descriptive observational with a cross-sectional approach to see hematological abnormalities in HIV patients at PKU Muhammadiyah Surakarta Hospital. This study produced data that hematological alterations found include anemia in 60% of HIV patients, with the most cases being mild anemia. A small percentage of HIV patients experience leukopenia and thrombocytopenia, which are as much as 8% and 12%. HIV-positive patients have at least one or more cytopenia. Thus, hematologic alteration can independently predict morbidity and mortality and is associated with disease progression and even death.

Abstract

Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease with clinical manifestations that range from mild acute febrile illness that resolves on its own to severe, life-threatening conditions with multiple organ dysfunction. Clinical features and various diagnostic tests establish leptospirosis diagnosis, such as bacterial isolation and serological examination. Because the antibody response required for serological testing is often insufficient to detect until the second week of disease (when the immune phase begins), sensitivity, when symptoms begin, is limited. Often, patients present with obvious clinical symptoms of leptospirosis but have negative serological test results. This study aimed to determine how to establish the clinical diagnosis of leptospirosis in leptospirosis cases with negative serology test results. This study used a descriptive method with a case series research design that analyzed four series of leptospirosis cases. The result of this study is that some cases of leptospirosis have obvious symptoms, but serological examination shows negative results. This can happen because new antibodies can be detected on day 6 to day 10 of the illness and reach their peak in 3-4 weeks so that the establishment of a clinical diagnosis of leptospirosis can be established from clear clinical symptoms and other laboratory tests. Establishing the clinical diagnosis of leptospirosis with negative serology can be done with the Faine scoring system.

Abstract

ABSTRACT                 Hypertension is a chronic disease that is still a major risk factor for stroke and coronary heart disease, which are the two main causes of death in Indonesia. The strategy to reduce the number and impact of diseases caused by hypertension is primary prevention, namely providing education to the public about hypertension, both from the risks, symptoms, and prevention. Educational activities in the pandemic era can be carried out using the webinar method to assess participants' understanding directly. This activity aims to see the effect of education on knowledge about the risks, symptoms and prevention of hypertension. In its implementation, the Faculty of Medicine collaborates with the Faculty of Pharmacy to provide this education. Education is provided using the webinar method through zoom cloud meeting media and presentation materials. The success of achievement is measured by increasing the post-test scores. Analysis of the post-test results with the Wilcoxon statistical test showed that the p value <0.05, which means that there was a significant increase in knowledge. Thus it can be said that the webinar is one of the educational media that can increase the public knowledge about hypertension.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Group age of elementary school is the highest group age for the risk of helminthiasis. Worms in elementary school students may cause anemia, poor nutritional status, and decreased concentration and learning achievement. Symptoms of helminthiasis are sometimes difficult to detect so that parents and teachers do not know that about this. This disease can be diagnosed by simple laboratory tests, as a screening. Helminthiasis and malnutrition can be influenced by various things, one of which is the lack of knowledge of students, parents and teachers about helminthiasis and nutritional status. This activity aims to detect worms and malnutrition in elementary school students. The method used is direct stool examination and measurement of nutritional status. The results of measuring the nutritional status of a total of 111 students obtained 19 (17%) students with a thin BMI and 10 students (9%) with a very thin BMI. Meanwhile, examination of feces samples from 8 students found no signs of worms. The level of knowledge of teachers about nutrition and helminthiasis is very good, while for students and guardians after counseling there is an increase in knowledge.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Indonesia is one of the countries in the world with an increasing number of HIV infections in recent years, with a profile similar to countries with concentrated epidemics. The government's target of examination, treatment and achievement of virus suppression of 95% has not been achieved. The reasons are varied, but the stigma and discrimination that still exist is one of the contributing factors. The UMS Faculty of Medicine and PKU Muhammadiyah Hospital work together to carry out community service in order to support the government's program to eradicate HIV. One of these joint activities is a workshop for hospital employees, education for Muhammadiyah cadres and lay people. This activity is proven to increase the knowledge of hospital employees where the pretest score is 115 to 138 (scale value 150). Counseling of cadres and lay people answered questions from participants to provide true facts and correct false myths. The author hope that this activity can be carried out routinely to increase the achievement of HIV diagnosis and HIV therapy rates to reduce the rate of transmission, especially in vulnerable groups of women, adolescents and newborns.
