Abstract

The rapid growth of Islamic banking makes it necessary to measure the performance of Islamic banks using Islamic values as the basis. One method that can be used to evaluate the performance of Indonesian Islamic banks is the Islamicity Performance Index (IPI) method. This study aims to measure the financial performance of Indonesian Islamic Banks. This research design uses a quantitative descriptive approach. The data used in this study is the ratio of profit sharing ratio, zakat performance ratio, equitable distribution ratio, Islamic income vs non Islamic income ratio, Islamic investment vs Non- Islamic investment Ratio taken from the annual financial statements of Bank Syariah Indonesia Syariah in 2021-2024. The results of this study indicate that the performance of Bank Syariah Indonesia has not met all sharia standards. Of the 5 IPI ratios used, only 3 ratios consistently meet sharia criteria, namely the profit sharing ratio, Islamic investment vs. Non- Islamic investment ratio and Islamic income vs. Non- Islamic income ratio. While 2 ratios namely Equitable Distribution Ratio (EDR) and Zakat Performance Ratio (ZPR) do not meet the sharia criteria of IPI because there are still elements that are not in accordance with sharia principles.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the factors that influence the lapse of life insurance policies on customers of PT Prudential Insurance Binjai Branch. Lapse is the termination of an insurance policy due to the customer's inability to pay premiums after the grace period, which is a big challenge for the insurance industry. The research method used is a qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the main factors causing policy lapse were unstable economic conditions, lack of insurance literacy, changes in personal financial needs, and social and cultural influences. Some customers experienced a decrease in income due to job changes or family conditions, so they decided not to continue paying premiums. In addition, a lack of understanding of the long-term benefits of insurance makes customers more vulnerable to lapse decisions. The impact of policy lapse is significant for the company, including loss of premium income, reduced customer retention rates, and potential damage to the company's reputation. Although lapse can reduce claim payment obligations for the company, the negative impact on cash flow is often greater. This research provides insights for insurance companies in designing strategies to reduce lapse rates. Some recommendations that can be implemented include increasing insurance education to customers, offering more flexible products according to customer financial needs, and strengthening communication and relationships with customers to remain committed to paying premiums. With a more proactive approach, companies can increase customer satisfaction and loyalty and ensure business sustainability in the midst of intense insurance industry competition.

Abstract

General Background: Economic disparities between regions in Indonesia remain a persistent development challenge. Specific Background: Langkat Regency, situated within North Sumatra Province, reflects a localized case of uneven growth requiring focused assessment. Knowledge Gap: Limited studies have examined sector-specific contributions, particularly the "Other Services" sector, to regional growth using comparative and quantitative frameworks. Aims: This study aims to analyze and compare economic development and inequality between North Sumatra Province and Langkat Regency, focusing on the 2021–2024 period. Results: Utilizing data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and applying the Dynamic Location Quotient (DLQ) and shift-share methods, the analysis reveals an average increase of IDR 14.87 billion in the Other Services sector, with a shift-share contribution of IDR 2.07 billion from 2023 to 2024. Novelty: The study integrates DLQ and shift-share analysis to isolate and evaluate the basic sector's dynamics within a regency-province framework, an approach not commonly applied in prior research on Langkat. Implications: These findings indicate robust sectoral growth potential and provide an empirical foundation for regional economic planning, emphasizing the strategic development of the Other Services sector to reduce intra-provincial inequality and enhance local economic resilience. Abstract

The speeding up of the digitalization of financial life that accompanies a rising cultural discourse about ethical investment is transforming the habits that shape the economic decisions of young Muslims. The current research examines how Islam stock investment could be impacted by lifestyle preferences and individual financial planning of student at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra (UINSU) relative to Jakarta Islamic Index (JII). Using a quantitative research approach on Structural Equation Modeling- Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) students investors active securities accounts were sampled and 94 student investors were selected. The results indicate that both lifestyle and financial planning influence investment decisions positively and independently of each other and lifestyle has a stronger effect in predicting investment decision. These findings indicate that approval of financial behavior of students is not a matter of systematic planning or technical literacy; there are extensive rationales on the basis of social identity, aspiration norms, and daily practices. In this environment, investment is identified as a mode of defining ethical orientation, social spot, and future intention, and not expressed as a pure economic concept. The study sets Islamic investing in the real world of digitally connected and religiously minded youngsters, enhancing the interpretation of behavioral finance in faith-related situations. It points a finger towards educational and institutional paradigms that take the financial decision-making beyond transactional competence, to cover ethical, cultural and social aspects of financial decision-making.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of insurance services within financing products at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) Medan Juanda, focusing on service delivery, employee perceptions, and factors influencing its effectiveness. The approach used is qualitative experience-based research, which is carried out through interviews with eight customers and two employees. The findings reveal that the financing insurance services adhere closely to sharia principles, ensuring ethical and transparent processes that align with Islamic financial values. Employees perceive these services positively, acknowledging their significant role in providing customers with added value and financial protection. Supporting factors include a strong internal system and regular employee training, which contribute to effective service implementation. However, challenges such as limited customer understanding and persistent negative perceptions of sharia insurance hinder wider acceptance. The study’s insights emphasize the importance of enhancing customer education and addressing misconceptions to improve trust and satisfaction in Sharia-compliant financing insurance services.

Abstract

The primary objective of this study is to examine the income earned by the palm sugar business community group in Bahorok District, Langkat Regency, through the lens of Maqashid Sharia. This research adopts a qualitative approach, with data collected through direct interviews with palm sugar entrepreneurs in the region. A total of ten respondents were selected from two villages in Bahorok District. Data collection methods included observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that the palm sugar household industry in Bahorok District significantly contributes to improving the community’s economic conditions, as reflected in the income generated from sales. The production of palm sugar from processed palm sap plays a crucial role in increasing household income. Within the framework of Maqashid Sharia, production activities must prioritize the realization of benefits (maslahah) and the prevention of harm (mafsadah). The concept encompasses five key elements: the preservation of religion, life, lineage, intellect, and wealth. Based on the analysis, the most prominent aspect observed among palm sugar artisans in Bahorok District is the preservation of wealth (Hifdz al-Mal). This is evident from the way their income supports family health, education, food, and clothing needs, thereby ensuring their economic welfare. Moreover, the safeguarding of wealth is consistently aligned with income sources obtained through lawful means, in accordance with Islamic law, which is an absolute principle to be upheld.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of dividend policy and profitability on the capital structure of manufacturing companies in the primary consumer goods sector listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The research addresses inconsistent findings in prior studies regarding the relationship between these variables, drawing on the Pecking Order Theory and Trade-Off Theory as the theoretical framework. A quantitative approach was employed with purposive sampling, resulting in a sample of 32 companies observed during the 2022-2023 period. Dividend policy was measured using the Dividend Payout Ratio (DPR), profitability using Return on Equity (ROE), and capital structure as the dependent variable. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS version 26, preceded by classical assumption tests. The results reveal that dividend policy has a significant negative effect on capital structure, indicating that higher dividend payouts are associated with a lower proportion of debt financing. Profitability, however, does not have a significant effect on capital structure, suggesting that profit levels do not directly determine financing preferences in the sampled companies. Jointly, dividend policy and profitability significantly influence capital structure, with an adjusted R² of 19.8%, implying that other factors outside the model account for 80.2% of the variation. These findings provide practical implications for financial managers in formulating optimal financing strategies and dividend distributions, especially in the post-pandemic business environment.
