Abstract

Unemployment and poverty are economic problems that are mostly faced by developing countries. Increasing unemployment and poverty will have a negative impact on Gross Domestic Product (GDP) which will then have an impact on human development in the country. The Human Development Index (HDI) is considered unable to reflect the religious and ethical perspective of socio-economic development in countries where the majority of the population is Muslim such as Indonesia. Therefore, the IHDI (Islamic Human Development Index) was created, a measurement based on the five dimensions of Maqasid Al-Shari'ah. This research aims to determine the influence of Gross Domestic Product, unemployment and poverty on the Islamic Human Development Index in Indonesia in 2015-2021. The data used in this research is secondary data obtained from publications by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). This research is quantitative research using multiple linear regression methods. The research results show that GDP has a positive and insignificant influence on IHDI. Meanwhile, the unemployment variable has a negative and insignificant influence on IHDI. And the poverty variable has a negative and significant influence on IHDI. Simultaneously, Gross Domestic Product, Unemployment and Poverty have a significant effect on IHDI. The results of this research can provide insight to policy makers (government) about the importance of paying attention to factors such as GDP, unemployment and poverty in an effort to increase the level of human development. such as stimulating economic growth, reducing unemployment levels, as well as economic empowerment programs to overcome poverty.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate (1) whether farmers in Dolok Batu Nanggar Sub-district have comprehended trade zakat, (2) whether they possess the awareness to fulfill their agricultural zakat obligations, and (3) what reasons underlie the non-payment of agricultural zakat among them. Employing a qualitative approach, the research was conducted in Dolok Batu Nanggar Sub-district, Simalungun Regency. The study participants were fifteen rice farmers who met the nisab threshold for agricultural zakat. The primary focus was on understanding their awareness regarding agricultural zakat payment. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed through techniques including data collection, reduction, presentation, and verification. Findings revealed that while farmers in Dolok Batu Nanggar Sub-district possessed a basic understanding of agricultural zakat, they lacked comprehensive knowledge regarding its calculation, rates, and nisab. Moreover, there was a low level of awareness among these farmers regarding their agricultural zakat obligations. Of the fifteen informants, only three (20%) had paid their agricultural zakat, while the remaining twelve (80%) had not. Reasons for non-payment included insufficient understanding of agricultural zakat, prioritization of personal matters, and perception of insufficient harvest yield.

Abstract

Research aims: This study examines how regulation, halal awareness, and belief influence the intention of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Medan City to register for halal certification. Although mandated by Law No. 33 of 2014, many MSMEs continue to delay certification due to limited understanding, perceived financial burdens, and assumptions that their products are inherently halal. Design/Methodology/Approach: A quantitative approach using multiple linear regression was applied. Data were collected from 91 MSMEs in East Medan District through a structured questionnaire, supported by validity, reliability, and classical assumption testing. Research findings: The results show that regulation, halal awareness, and belief significantly shape MSME intentions, explaining 90.4% of the variation. Although MSMEs recognize the importance of certification for legality and consumer trust, challenges related to procedures and limited knowledge remain. Theoretical Contribution/Originality: This study enriches the literature by illustrating how regulatory and cognitive–religious factors influence MSME certification decisions. Practical/Policy Implications: Stronger government support, wider socialization, and simpler procedures are needed to increase MSME participation. Research Limitations/Implications: The findings are limited to East Medan District and a quantitative approach; future studies should compare regions or use mixed methods for deeper insights.

Abstract

The Indonesian sharia insurance industry faces significant challenges due to the phenomenon of creative destruction in the era of digital transformation. This study examines the strategies employed by agents of PT. Prudential Sharia Life Assurance, Binjai Branch, in addressing business changes triggered by digitalization, the decline in the number of policies issued, and fluctuations in premium income. The research method used the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) approach, with data collected through questionnaires distributed to agents. The results indicate that the public's low understanding of digital sharia insurance and agents' limited ability to utilize digital technology are the main obstacles to market penetration and customer education. The company's digital infrastructure, including the data management system and Pruforce digital platform, has not been optimally integrated, thus hampering effective service delivery. A digital strategy that emphasizes strengthening the role of agents as financial consultants and the use of digital platforms has positive potential to improve marketing and service effectiveness. The success of digital transformation depends heavily on the readiness of human resources who master technology and the principles of sharia insurance. Therefore, it is recommended to develop digital infrastructure, provide ongoing training for agents, educate the public about sharia insurance, and collaborate with digital platforms and social media to expand the market and maintain the company's competitiveness.
