Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk, fungsi bahasa dan faktor Bahasa inggris digunakan antara pedagang jalanan ketika mereka berkomunikasi dengan para wisatawan. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Banjar Hot Spring, Bali. Empat pedagang jalanan dipilih sebagai subyek penelitian ini berdasarkan kriteria. Penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dimana data yang terkumpul dianalisis secara kualitatif. Peneliti adalah instrumen utama yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Dua perangkat yang digunakan oleh peneliti untuk mengumpulkan data, yaitu perekam video dan notetaking. Peneliti mengamati data dengan merekam percakapan yang dilakukan oleh subyek selama dua kali. Data ditranskrip dan dianalisis untuk mengetahui bentuk, fungsi bahasa dan faktor bahasa inggris. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa bentuk bahasa inggris yang digunakan antara pedagang jalanan adalah penyimpangan dari apa yang biasanya digunakan dalam hal tata bahasa, sintaksis, dan kosa kata dan juga ada beberapa komponen bahasa yaitu phonology, morphology, and syntax, Berdasarkan teori Spratt, Pulverness, dan Williams (2005: 17), ada tujuh fungsi bahasa yang digunakan antara pedagang jalanan ketika mereka berkomunikasi dengan wisatawan. Fungsi-fungsi Bahasa yang di maksud yaitu salam, menawarkan barang dan jasa, meminta pendapat, memberikan informasi, tidak setuju, berterima kasih, dan meninggalkan tempat yang digunakan antara pedagang jalanan, ada tujuh fungsi yang menjadi fokus penelitian ini.Kata Kunci : Bahasa Inggris, Pedagang jalanan, Bentuk, Fungsi Bahasa. This study was aimed at finding out the forms, language function and factor of English used by the Street Vendors when they communicated with the tourists. This study was conducted at Banjar Hot Spring, Bali. Four street vendors were chosen as the subjects of this study based on the criteria. This study was descriptive qualitative in which the data collected were analyzed qualitatively. The researcher is the main instrument employed in this study. Two devices were used by the researcher to collect the data, namely video recorder and notetaking. The researcher observed the data by recording the conversation done by the subjects for two times. The data were transcribed and analyzed to find out the form, language function and factors of English. The result of the data analysis showed that the form of English used by the street vendors was a deviation from what is normally used in terms of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary and also some component of language such as phonology, morphology, and syntax. Based on the theory Spratt, Pulverness, and Williams (2005: 17), there are seven function of language used by Street Vendors when they were communicating with the tourist. Those language functions were greeting, offering goods and service, asking opinion, giving information, disagreeing, thanking, and leave-taking That is used by street vendors, there were seventh function that become the focus of this study.keyword : English, Street Vendors, Form, Language Function.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan materi pembelajaran yang dapat digunakan untuk mengajar Bahasa Inggris menggunakan pembelajaran berbasis masalah berdasarkan kurikulum 2013 untuk siswa SMP kelas 8, menggambarkan bagaimana nilai-nilai karakter dimasukkan ke dalam pembelajaran berbasis masalah berdasarkan kurikulum 2013 untuk siswa SMP kelas 8, dan menggambarkan kualitas dari materi pembelajaran yang dikembangkan. Subyek dari penelitian ini adalah para siswa dan guru kelas 8 SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. Penelitian ini menerapkan desain penelitian dan pengembangan yang berdasarkan teori Sugiyono (2011). Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dari penelitian ini adalah checklist, kuisioner, studi dokumen yang dianalisa secara deskriptif. Materi pembelajaran terdiri dari masalah-masalah yang diimplementasi melalui kegiatan mengobservasi, menanya, mengeksplorasi, mengasosiasikan, mengkomunikasikan. Materi pembelajaran juga mengandung karakter yang disisipkan melalui aktivitas pembelajaran yang dilaksanakan dalam proses belajar-mengajar berdasarkan metode pembelajaran berbasis masalah. Kualitas dari materi yang dikembangkan dapat dikategorikan sangat tinggi, karena nilai rata-rata yang diperoleh dari penguji ahli yaitu 4.22 ( ? 4.05). Maka dari itu, materi pembelajaran ini dapat digunakan sebagai contoh untuk melaksanakan pembelajaran berbasis masaah dengan menyisipkan karakter di SMP.Kata Kunci : Kurikulum 2013, Pembelajaran Berbasis Masalah, Karakter Pendidikan This study aimed at developing materials which could be used for teaching English using Problem-Based Learning according to Curriculum 2013 for grade eight of Junior High School, describing how Problem-Based Learning instructional materials provide for character insertion according to Curriculum 2013 for grade eight of Junior High School, and describing the quality of the developed materials. The subjects of this study were students and English teachers of grade eight in SMP Negeri 1 Singaraja. This study applied research and development design proposed by Sugiyono (2011). The instruments used to collect the data of this study were checklist, questionnaire, and document study which were analyzed descriptively. The developed materials consist of problems which were implemented through the activities of observing, questioning, exploring, associating, and communicating. The developed materials also provide for character insertion through learning activities which are conducted in teaching-learning process based on Problem-Based Learning Method. The quality of the developed materials can be categorized as excellent, since the main score obtained from the expert judges is 4.22 ( ? 4.05). Therefore, these instructional materials can be treated as a sample model for implementing Problem-Based Learning with character insertion in Junior High School.keyword : Curriculum 2013, Problem-Based Learning, Character Education

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bahan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk Tata Graha yang dibutuhkan oleh mahasiswa Tata Graha di PPLP Pansophia Singaraja, mendeskripsikan bagaimana bahan pembelajaran dikembangkan dan menganalisa kualitas bahan pembelajaran yang telah dikembangkan. Penelitian ini menggunakan model penelitian dan pengembangan yang disarankan oleh Hannafin dan Peck (2014) yang terdiri dari analisis kebutuhan, rancangan, dan pengembangan atau pengimplementasian dimana pada setiap tahapnya diikuti dengan tahap evaluasi dan revisi. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa kuesioner, panduan wawancara, analisa dokumen dan daftar periksa. Hasil temuan dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa ada 12 topik yang perlu dikembangkan yaitu menyambut dan menyapa tamu, memperkenalkan diri dan orang lain, menjelaskan fasilitas hotel dan jasa, menjelaskan fasilitas kamar hotel, berurusan dengan permintaan tamu, menawarkan jasa laundry, memberikan arah di dalam bangunan hotel, memberikan arah ke objek wisata, berkomunikasi melalui telepon, menangani keluhan tentang tata graha, membuat surat lamaran dan daftar riwayat hidup, dan berurusan dengan wawancara kerja. Bahan pembelajaran yang dikembangkan mengikuti rancangan bahan English for Specific Purposes yang disarankan oleh Hutchinson dan Waters (2008) yang terdiri dari input, content focus, language focus dan task. Karena Bahasa Inggris untuk Tata Graha adalah bagian dari English for Specific Purposes yaitu Bahasa Inggris untuk tujuan pekerjaan, efektivitas bahan yang dikembangkan dievaluasi menggunakan kriteria bahan ESP baik yang disarankan oleh Litz (2005), Hutchinson dan Waters (2008), dan Tomlinson (2009). Tes validasi menunjukkan bahwa produk penelitian ini ada pada kategori baik yang berarti bahwa bahan pembelajaran tersebut dapat digunakan sebagai sumber utama untuk pembelajaran oleh calon staf tata graha di PPLP Pansophia Singaraja.Kata kunci: Bahan Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, Tata Graha

Abstract

The present study aimed at investigating whether or not there was a significant difference in writing competency between the eighth grade junior high school students who received metalinguistic WCF and those who did not receive any feedback. This experimental study took the eighth grade students in SMPN 1 Abiansemal as the population and VIIIB and VIIIF respectively as the control and experimental group through cluster random sampling. The design of the study was pretest-posttest control group design. The data were the students’ pretest and posttest that were analyzed descriptively and inferentially. ANCOVA test was used in analyzing the data and to test the hypothesis. The result of the analysis using ANCOVA in SPSS 17.0 showed that the significance value of the group was 0.024 which was lower than the significance level 0.05. It means that the null hypothesis was rejected. It was concluded that there was a significant difference between students who received metalinguistic WCF and those who did not receive any feedback.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesalahan-kesalahan tata bahasa pada tulisan recount yang dibuat oleh siswa-siswa di SMA N 4 Singaraja tahun ajaran 2018. Penelitian ini dilakukan melalui deskriptif kualitatif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari kesalahan tata bahasa yang dibuat oleh siswa. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah 59 siswa dari kelas X MIPA 3 dan X MIPA 6. Metode yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data adalah analisa dokumen dan wawancara. Selain itu, sumber dari kesalahan-kesalahn yang dibuat siswa adalah kesalahan intralingual, kesalahan interlingual, dan strategi komunikasi. Penelitian ini juga mengandung saran untuk para guru agar lebih perhatian pada kesulitan siswa dalam mengerti dan memberi banyak latihan. Strategi ini dapat membantuk siswa untuk lebih terbiasa dengan tata bahasa dari bahasa target.Kata Kunci : Tata Bahasa, Kesalahan, Tulisan This study aimed at analyzing of grammatical error in students’ writing recount text committed by tenth grade students of Sma n 4 Singaraja in academic year 2018. It was conducted through descriptive qualitative. This study is intended to find out the error committed by students. The subjects of this study were 59 students of X Mipa 3 and Mipa 6. The method were document analysis and interview. There were 340 errors which were classified into 15 types. Besides, the sources of those errors were intralingual error, interlingual error, and communication strategy. It is futher suggested for the teachers to pay more attention to students' difficulties in learning grammar. The teachers were expected to ask the students about which part were still difficult to understand and gave many practices. This strategy could help students to be more familiar with the grammar of targer language.keyword : Grammar, Error, Writing

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis (1)bentuk linguistic dari jargon yang di gunakan antara staff housekeeping di The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. (2) konten semantik dari jargon yang digunkan antara staff housekeeping di The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. (3) Fungsi dari jargon yang di gunakan antara staff housekeeping di The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. (4) konteks spesifik dari jargon yang digunakan antara staff housekeeping di The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah staff housekeeping di The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. Data pada penelitian ini didapatkan melalaui percakapan dari staff housekeeping di The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan melalui merekam percakapan, menulis penjelasan dari percakpan, menganalisis percakapan, wawancara dan mengumpulkan dokumen housekeeping. Dalam penelitian ini instrument utama adalah peneliti, sebagai instrument utama peneliti menggunakan beberapa alat untuk mengumpulkan data seperti: perekam suara, kamera dan wawancara. Hasil dari penelitian ini menununjukkan ada 145 jargon yang digunakan antara staff housekeeping di The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. Terkait dengan bentuk linguistik, jargon yang digunakan antara staff housekeeping yang diselediki berdasarkan proses pembentukan kata seperti singkatan 31, akronim 3, pinjaman 14, kliping 3, kata kerja 14, kata benda 18, kata sifat 7, frase kata benda 52, dan frase posisional 3. Konten semantik dari 145 jargon diselidiki berdasarkan makna teknis yang bukan makna leksikal. Fungsi dari jargon dibagi menjadi dua, pertama adalah memberikan bahasa teknis untuk komunikasi yang efisien 51 dan fungsi yang kedua adalah mendorong solidaritas kelompok 94. Berkaitan dengan konteks spesifik diamana jargon digunakan antara staff housekeeping di The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, data dikategorikan menjadi dua: pertama adalah memberikan informasi 94 dan kedua adalah memberikan instruksi 49. Kata Kunci : bahasa dan masyarakat, jargon, housekeeping This research aimed at analyzing the jargon used by the housekeeping staff at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua through the types, semantic content, function and the specific context in which it is used by the housekeeping staff. The data of this research was from the conversation among the housekeeping staff at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. Data were collected by recording the conversation, transcribing the conversation, analyzing the conversation, interview and collecting the housekeeping’s files. In this research the main instrument is the researcher, as the main instrument the researcher was used some tools in obtaining the data such as: recorder, camera and interview guide. The study shows that there are 145 jargons which used among the housekeeping staff at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua. Related to the linguistic forms, jargon which used among the housekeeping staff was investigate based on the word formation process like abbreviation 31, acronym 3, borrowing 14, clipping 3, verb 14, noun 18, adjective 7, noun phrase 52, and proportional phrase 3. The semantic content of the 145 jargons was investigated based on the technical meaning which instead of lexical meaning. The data was divided into two functions of jargon, first is providing a technical language for efficient communication 51 and the second function is encouraging in group solidarity 94. Regarding with the specific context in which jargon used by housekeeping staff at The Westin Resort Nusa Dua, the data is categorized into two: first is giving information 94 and the second give instruction 49. keyword : language and society, jargon, housekeeping

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki jenis-jenis kesalahan tata bahasa yang dilakukan oleh siswa-siswi kelas dua SMPK 2 Harapan dalam menulis teks deskriptif pada tahun akademik 2017/2018. Penelitian ini juga mendeskripsikan sumber-sumber kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa-siswi. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 39 siswa-siswi kelas 8B. Tulisan siswa-siswi dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori Azar dalam mengklasifikasikan jenis-jenis kesalahan tata bahasa yang dilakukan oleh siswa-siswi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 12 jenis kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa-siswi. Kesalahan-kesalahan tersebut meliputi ejaan (3.80%), pemilihan kata (4.60%), kata sambung (2.40%), tunggal-jamak (10.62%), kata kerja subjek (26.25%), susunan kata (4.80%), bentuk kata kerja (7,81% ), kata ganti (22,24%), preposisi (6.41%), artikel (5.61%), penghilangan kata (4.20%), dan tanda baca (2.60%). Jumlah kesalahan tatabahasa dalam teks deskriptif adalah 499 kesalahan. Dari segi sumber-sumber kesalahan, sumber-sumber kesalahan dianalisis dengan menggunakan teori Brown. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kesalahan yang paling umum berasal dari kesalahan intralingual transfer (26.44%) dan kesalahan yang paling sedikit berasal dari konteks pembelajaran (22.76%). Dari perhitungan kuisioner didapat 949 kesalahan. Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa siswa kelas dua SMPK 2 Harapan masih banyak melakukan kesalahan dari pengembangan bahasa kedua ke sistem linguistik.Kata Kunci : Teks descriptif, kesalahan tata bahasa, menulis This study aimed at investigating the kinds of grammatical errors committed by the second grade students of SMPK 2 Harapan in writing descriptive texts in academic year 2017/2018. The total number of grammatical errors in descriptive texts was 499 errors. In terms of sources of errors, the sources of errors were analyzed by using Brown theory. The result of this study indicated that the most common errors came from intralingual transfer sources (26.44%) and the least common errors came from context of learning sources (22.76%). From the result of the questionnaire was 949 errors. Therefore, it can be concluded that the second grade students of SMPK 2 Harapan still committed lots of errors from L2 linguistic development. keyword : Descriptive text, grammatical errors, writing.

Abstract

The study aimed at: (1) investigating the effect of POWER as an instructional writing strategy on students? writing skill; (2) analyzing the different effect of POWER across gender; and (3) analyzing problems of writing faced by the students. The explanatory design was applied in this study. A writing post-test was used to obtain the data and were analyzed using One-Way ANOVA. The findings of the study revealed that (1) there was a significant effect of POWER on students? writing skill: p = .001 with a large effect size (eta = .17); (2) there was a significant difference on the effect of POWER on the students? writing skill across gender: p = .013 with a large effect size (eta = .18); and (3) the males struggled in editing and revising rather than females. Then, those resulted in the differences quality of their writing, in which point female participants surpassed the males. Therefore, teachers are expected to implement POWER as one of their variants in EFL writing instruction

Abstract

Teaching English to young learners is not an easy task. Teacher needs to use appropriate learning strategies so the students are engaged and motivated in teaching and learning process. The current study aimed at identifying the teaching English strategies used by fifth grade English teacher and the problems encountered by teacher in teaching English for young learner. This study was a descriptive qualitative research and conducted in SD Suta Dharma Denpasar Bali. In collecting the data, classroom observation and interview were conducted. The result showed that there were eight strategies applied by teacher in teaching English. They are; listen and repeat, listen and do, question and answer, in-pair, cooperative learning, and games. Furthermore, the problems experienced by teacher were lack of media of teaching English and lack of knowledge of strategy in TEYL. The problems occurred because the teacher has a limited knowledge on how to teach English for young learners and the lack of resources of teaching media available in school.

Abstract

This study aimed at finding out the effect of Project-Based Learning on students’ writing skill of grade 9 at SMPN 1 Tembuku. This study empplied embedded mixed method design, in which the quantitative data were considered as the main data. The data were collected through guided interview, observation, open-ended questionnaire, and writing test. Paired-sample t-test was used to analyze whether or not there is a significant difference in students’  writing skill before and after being taught using PBL, and Manova  was used to To analyze how project-based learning affected students’ writing skill in term of content, organization, structure, vocabulary, and mechanic. While the qualitative data were analyzed descriptively.The result showed that Project-Based Learning has significant effect on students’ English writing skill and it also affected the students’ writing skill in term of  content, organization, structure, vocabulary, and mechanic (sig. = .000 < α = . 05). Project-Based Learning also revealed potentially promotes students’ critical thinking, creativity, collaborative work, and enhances teacher’s satisfaction in teaching . In general, it can be concluded that Project-Based Learning significantly improves students’ writing skill of the 9 grade students.
