The focus of this research was to analyse the extent of flouting maxim of Grice’s Cooperative principle done by Chris Martin, vocalist of the band Coldplay and analyse the types of flouting Grice’s Cooperative principle used by guests and their reasons, this interview hosted by NajwaShihab in the Mata Najwa program which is a highly interactive talk show entitled "Exclusive Interview with Chris Martin of Coldplay | Mata Najwa". The research uses a descriptive qualitative and quantitative method since the data is presented as words and numbers. The reason for choosing this talk show is because Chris Martin is an English native speaker, while NajwaSihab is an Indonesian native speaker, making it possible to compare how Grice's Cooperative principle is often flouted during interviews due to language and cultural differences. Inan exclusive interview as shown in this study, 11 utterances were found during the interview, including 4 utterances that flouting maxim quantity, 4 utterances that flouting maxim quality, 2 utterances that flouting maxim relevance and 1 utterance that flouting maxim manner. From the data of flouting maxim, that also found several reasons why Chris do the flouting maxim, these reasons areconfusing in giving answer, friendliness, respectful, confidentiality/hiding the truth and Showing empathy. And the most common reason for flouting maxim was found when Chris flouted maxim quantity and quality. As this was a formal interview, the flouting Grice’s Cooperative principle was done by politeness strategies. Despite the flouting Grice’s Cooperative principle, the conversation still runs well until the end.

Kegiatan ini merupakan salah satu kegiatan pengabdian yang bertujuan untuk mengenalkan teknologi AI dalam membantu proses peningkatan kemampuan bercakap-cakap dengan menggunakan bahasa inggris. Desa Wisata Belitar Seberang merupakan salah satu objek wisata yang banyak dikunjungi baik warga lokal maupun mereka yang datang dari luar negeri. Keterbatasan mereka adalah hanya satu orang warga yang memiliki kemampuan bisa bercakap-cakap dengan bahasa inggris, sehingga ketika pemandu tersebut sedang berhalangan, para warga dan Pokdarwis yang bertugas merasa kesulitan dalam berkomunikasi kepada tamu dari negara lain. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah untuk mengenalkan dan memberi panduan bagaimana memanfaatkan AI untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bercakap dengan AI dengan menggunakan bahasa inggris. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah ceramah dan praktek. berdasarkan hasil pendampingan, warga desa Belitar Seberang merasa terbantu dikarenakan mereka dengan bantuan AI mereka bisa meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa inggris, AI juga membantu mereka untuk melayani tamu dari negara yang bukan menggunakan bahasa inggris sebagai bahasa mereka. Dengan teknik ini mereka mampu bercakap-cakap seperti biasa dengan menggunakan bahasa inggris dan bahasa lainnya. Kata Kunci: Pemanfaatan AI, Bahasa Inggris

This research is concerned with the morphological analysis of inflectional and derivational suffixes used in Journal Articles of JDER 2023 on Volume 4 No 3 (2023). In line with the research objectives are to describe the types of inflectional and derivational suffixes found in Journal Articles of JDER 2023; and to find out the most dominant types of inflectional and derivational suffixes appeared in Journal Articles of JDER 2023. This research is carries out in both methods, firstly quantitative and secondly qualitative. The sample of this research was all Journal Articles of JDER 2023 on Vol 4 No 3 (2023). The data were gathered by using checklist on data sheet based on Fromkin’s theory (2003) which states that inflectional suffixes are divided into eight types and derivational suffixes are divided into nine types and were analysed by using descriptive technique. The findings showed that all types of inflectional suffixes are found in Journal Articles of JDER 2023 with the most dominant types appeared are types of inflectional suffixes in ‘plural’ indicators namely suffixes (-s/-es plural) which occur 145 times with 114 in regular inflection and 31 suppletive forms as types of inflectional suffixes in irregular inflection. On the contrary, not all types of derivational suffixes found in Journal Articles of JDER 2023 with the most dominant types appeared are types of derivational suffixes in ‘verb to noun’ indicators (nominal suffixes) namely suffixes (-al, -ance, -ion, -ance, -ence, -ing) Noun which occur 70 times.

This study analyzes the conflicts faced by the main characters in the film "Laskar Pelangi", set in the 1970s on the Bangka Belitung Islands. The film portrays aspects of life such as economic limitations, moral values, friendship, family dynamics, and the importance of quality education. Using semiotic and structuralist approaches, the study examines the symbols and narrative structures influencing the audience's understanding of these conflicts. The research found that internal conflict (Man vs Self) is the most dominant, accounting for 42% of the total conflicts. External conflicts include "Man vs Society" (32%), "Man vs Man" (18%), "Man vs Nature" (7%), and "Man vs Fate" (1%). Internal conflicts illustrate the characters' personal struggles, while external conflicts highlight societal and environmental challenges. The study also emphasizes the importance of friendship and moral support in overcoming life's difficulties. Character relationships in the film serve as pillars of strength in facing various issues. Through in-depth analysis, this research aims to provide new insights into the dynamics of conflict in film narratives and the film's contribution to teaching moral values and perseverance.

One of the topics that students must learn in English literature class is English proverbs. Proverb is one of the old works of literature that students must master especially in English literature classrooms, as an elective subject in high school. This study aims to find out the improvement of students’ understanding of English proverbs by using the Kahoot application. The present research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) to help students improve their understanding of English proverb materials. The sample in this research is 36 students who have taken English literature at the school. Data was obtained through observation and tests about the implementation of English proverbs. This research uses the Arikunto stage. Each cycle consists of four stages, (1) the action planning stage, (2) the action implementation stage, (3) the observation and inner achievement stage, and (4) the analysis and reflection stage. Research instruments use student learning outcomes. Data analysis uses the percentage technique. The result explained that students’ understanding of English proverbs increased, namely, from cycle I of class X MIPA F, 23 students got a score of 77, with the KKM standard score of 75. In cycle II, 34 students got scores greater than 80, and the others got scores less than 80. Based on the actions taken, it can be concluded that the use of Kahoot applications can improve students’ understanding of English proverbs

Pelatihan TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) merupakan sebuah kebutuhan bagi mahasiswa di lingkungan Universitas Dehasen , khususnya bagi mahasiswa tingkat akhir yang akan mengikuti tes TOEFL sebagai salah satu syarat dalam sebuah kelulusan ataupun ketika memasuki dunia kerja. Salah satu Universitas Dehasen yang dijadikan sebagai mitra adalah Mahasiswa English Club Unived, , . Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi oleh mitra adalah masih kurangnya pemahaman terkait dengan TOEFL sehingga skor TOEFL mahasiswa di lingkungan Mahasiswa English Club Unived masih belum sesuai dengan target yang diharapkan. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat yang dilakukan oleh civitas akademika di Program Studi Sastra Inggris perlu dilakukan sebagai bentuk pengamalan Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi. Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk meningkatkan nilai TOEFL bagi mahasiswa di lingkungan Universitas Dehasen. Metode pengabdian yang digunakan selama kegiatan pelatihan adalah dengan menggunakan metode ceramah, tanya jawab, dan latihan pengerjaan soal TOEFL sesuai dengan materi yang telah dipersiapkan oleh pemateri. TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) training is a necessity for students at IAIN Bengkulu, especially for final year students who will take the TOEFL test as one of the requirements for graduation or when entering the world of work. One of them at IAIN Bengkulu who is used as a partner is the IAIN English Club Students. The main problem faced by partners is the lack of understanding regarding TOEFL so that the TOEFL scores of students in the IAIN English Club Student environment are still not in line with the expected targets. Therefore, community service activities carried out by the academic community in the English Literature Study Program need to be carried out as a form of practicing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The aim of this activity is to increase TOEFL scores for students in the IAIN environment. The service method used during training activities is by using the lecture method, question and answer, and practice working on TOEFL questions according to the material prepared by the presenter. The results of community service activities show that there is an increase in student TOEFL scores in the IAIN English Club Student environment.
