Abstract

The learning process in the classroom can be a trigger for low Mathematical Literacy Ability (KLM) of students so that improving the learning process and increasing students' KLM through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model is the purpose of this study. The research conducted was Classroom Action Research with two cycles on 35 students of class VIII-3 SMP Negeri 5 Pekanbaru. Data acquisition through learning device instruments (teaching modules equipped with teaching materials, LKPD, Remedial and Enrichment) and data collection instruments (observation sheets and student KLM test devices). The CAR cycle process was carried out in two cycles, covering four stages (planning, action, observation, and reflection) showing an increase in the average score of students' KLM from 54.46 in cycle I to 74.06 in cycle II. These results indicate that through the application of PBL, it can improve the learning process and increase the KLM of students VIII-3 SMP Negeri 5 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

Abstract

This study addresses the low mathematics achievement levels among students in class VIII.2 at SMP Negeri 35 Pekanbaru during the 2023/2024 academic year. The research aims to enhance the learning process and improve mathematics achievement by implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. This study employs Classroom Action Research to identify problems and implement targeted actions to resolve them. The subjects comprised 19 male students and 20 female students with heterogeneous ability levels. The research instruments included the Flow of Learning Objectives, Teaching Modules with attached Student Worksheets, Diagnostic Assessments, Formative Assessments, and Summative Assessments. Observation sheets and learning outcome tests were used for data collection. The results indicate significant improvements in the learning process across cycles, as demonstrated by increased mathematics achievement. The number of students meeting the Learning Objective Achievement Criteria rose from 17 students (43.59%) in Cycle I to 25 students (64.10%) and further to 29 students (74.36%) in Cycle II. The study concludes that the application of the PBL model effectively improved both the learning process and mathematics achievement in class VIII.2 at SMP Negeri 35 Pekanbaru during the 2023/2024 academic year, particularly on the topic of the System of Linear Equations in Two Variables.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the learning process and students' mathematical problem-solving skills through the implementation of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model. The research employed a classroom action research design, conducted over two cycles in collaboration with a mathematics teacher. The subjects were students of class IX B at UPT SMP Negeri 2 Bangkinang Kota during the first semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. Research instruments included mathematical learning tools (syllabus, lesson plans, and student worksheets) and data collection tools (observation sheets and mathematical problem-solving tests). Data analysis combined qualitative descriptive analysis and quantitative descriptive statistical analysis. The results indicate that the implementation of PBL improved both the learning process and students' mathematical problem-solving skills. The average N-gain score increased from 0.42 (medium classification) in cycle I to 0.72 (high classification) in cycle II. Furthermore, the students' average score improved from 63.44 in cycle I to 84.56 in cycle II. These findings conclude that the Problem-Based Learning model effectively enhances the learning process and mathematical problem-solving skills of class IX B students at UPT SMP Negeri 2 Bangkinang Kota.

Abstract

The low mathematical problem-solving abilities of Indonesian students can be seen from the PISA test results, which show that Indonesian students are ranked 72nd out of 78 countries, with an average score of 394 in 2018. Using Problem-Based Learning, this classroom action research seeks to improve the learning process and increase students' mathematical problem-solving abilities. This research was attended by 41 students with various skill levels from class VIII 3 of SMP Negeri 17 Pekanbaru. This research was divided into two cycles, each consisting of four stages: preparation, implementation, observation, and reflection. Research instruments include learning tools and instruments for collecting data. The KPMM test instruments and observation sheets are data collection instruments, while the syllabus, learning implementation plans, and student worksheets are learning tools. Data from observation sheets and mathematical problem-solving ability tests were examined using descriptive analysis techniques. From cycle I to cycle II, the learning process, according to observation data, experienced improvement. In cycle II, the average value of students' mathematical problem-solving abilities increased from 55.97 in cycle I to 81.09. By implementing Problem Based Learning in the learning process, the mathematical problem solving abilities of class VIII3 students at SMP Negeri 17 Pekanbaru have increased and improved their learning process. So researchers highly recommend this learning model in improving the learning process and increasing students' KPMM.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the fact that the mathematics learning outcomes in class VIII.2 of SMPN 13 Pekanbaru were low, with only 39.53% of students reaching the Learning Objectives Achievement Criteria. This study aimed to improve students' mathematics learning outcomes by implementing the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. This research is a collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. The subjects of this study were all 43 students of class VIII.2, who were sampled using a census technique. The research instruments used were learning outcome tests and observation sheets. Data were analyzed quantitatively for the test results and qualitatively for the observation sheets. The research findings showed an increase in the percentage of students who reached the Learning Objectives Achievement Criteria from a baseline score of 39.53%, which rose to 48.83% in Cycle I and 65.11% in Cycle II. Therefore, it can be concluded that the implementation of the PBL model is effective in improving students' mathematics learning outcomes.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance and low level of mathematical reasoning skills. The purpose of the research is to produce a Problem Based Learning-based teaching module on the topic of comparison to facilitate the mathematical reasoning skills of phase D students that meet the requirements of validity and practicality. The method used is Research & Development (R&D) with a 4-D development model (define, design, develop, disseminate). The test subjects were 6 eighth grade junior high school students in the small group test and 34 students in the field test. Based on the assessment by three validators, the teaching module met the valid criteria with an average percentage of 99% for part I of the teaching module, 94% for part II of the teaching module, and 97% for part III of the teaching module. The assessment of the student response questionnaire obtained an average of 91% with very practical criteria in the small group test and 96% with very practical criteria in the field test. It can be concluded that the Problem Based Learning-based teaching module on the topic of comparison to facilitate the mathematical reasoning skills of phase D students meets the valid and practical requirements.
