Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of source and concentration of natural PGR on growth and yield of shallot Lembah Palu variety and interaction between these factors. This research was conducted from May to August 2019 in Sidera Village, Sigi Biromaru District, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi, and used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors and three replications. The first factor was the different sources of natural PGR (J) consisting of 2 (two) treatments: J1 (coconut water) and J2 (moringa leaf extract). The second factor was the concentration of PGR (K) consisting of 5 (five) levels: K1 (20%), K2 (40%), K3 (60%), K4 (80%), and K5 (100%). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and followed by a DMRT test 5%. The results showed that there was an interaction between the source and concentration of PGR number of tillers at age 45 DAP, the number of tubers per clump, and the fresh weight of tubers per clump. Coconut water with a concentrate of 40% was the treatment that provided the highest result. Source of PGR had a statistically significant effect on fresh and dry leaves at age 15 DAP, total fresh and dry weight at age 15 DAP, and total leaf area per plant at age 15 DAP. Coconut water was the treatment that provided the highest result. The concentration of PGR had a significant effect on fresh leaf weight and total fresh weight per plant at age 25 DAP. Concentrate 20% was the treatment that provided the best result.

Abstract

Abstract

This research investigates the construction of religious messages and the efficacy of cultural preaching (da’wah) within the Pepe’-pepeka ri Makka (Fire in Mecca) dance tradition in Paropo Village, Makassar. While traditionally viewed as a cultural spectacle, this dance functions as a sophisticated medium for Islamic proselytization. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, this study utilizes Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic framework—comprising signs, objects, and interpretants—to analyze the ritual’s poetry and choreography. Data were collected through participatory observation, documentation, and in-depth interviews with key informants, including traditional maestros and religious figures. The findings reveal that the dance is a complex symbolic system representing core Islamic tenets, specifically Tawhid (monotheism), angelic hierarchies, and Thaharah (ritual purification). The fire serves as a potent index of divine light (Nur) and a symbol of spiritual resilience, echoing the miracle of Prophet Abraham. However, the analysis through the Stimulus-Organism-Response (SOR) model indicates a significant gap in public reception. While the performance elicits strong affective responses, such as awe and emotional engagement, the cognitive and behavioral impacts remain limited. This disconnect is attributed to linguistic barriers in the classical Makassarese poetry and the lack of explicit narrative interpretation. The study concludes that for cultural da’wah to achieve its transformative potential, "intersemiotic translation" is required to bridge the gap between traditional symbolism and contemporary public understanding.

Abstract

General Background: Marriage harmony requires effective interpersonal communication, particularly amid increasing household conflicts in urban communities. Specific Background: The Religious Affairs Office (KUA) in Biringkanaya Makassar provides marriage consultation services where registrars (penghulu) act as mediators through structured communication. Knowledge Gap: Studies have rarely examined the specific interpersonal communication strategies of penghulu in practical consultation contexts. Aims: This study analyzes communication stages, forms, supporting factors, and obstacles in marriage consultation. Results: Findings show a staged process consisting of building trust, exploring problems, clarifying and reflecting issues, and facilitating solutions and commitments. Communication forms include persuasive verbal, empathetic nonverbal, and religious symbolic communication. Supporting factors involve registrar credibility, institutional legitimacy, and alignment with religious values, while obstacles include emotional instability, cultural and educational differences, and limited time. Novelty: The integration of empathetic communication with religious values emerges as a key strategy to foster openness and resolve domestic conflicts. Implications: The study contributes to interpersonal communication theory and provides practical guidance for improving marriage consultation services in religious institutions. Highlights• Structured stages guide consultation toward shared solutions• Combined communication forms address emotional and cognitive aspects• Value-based interaction supports conflict resolution KeywordsInterpersonal Communication; Communication Strategy; Marriage Consultation; Religious Institutions; KUA
