Abstract

Non-communicable diseases can cause oxidative stress, which affects their pathophysiology. One of the recommended diets for preventing complications of non-communicable diseases (NCD) is a rich antioxidant diet. One of the foods rich in antioxidants is beetroots. This study aimed to assess the antioxidant content of locally obtained beetroot juice. Laboratory experimental methods were used to test the antioxidant activity of beetroot juice. Before the laboratory test, the panelists carried out a hedonic test. The beets were then juiced and checked for DPPH′ (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl). The beetroot was then juiced and checked for DPPH′ (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl). Statistical analysis was performed using the Kruskal–Wallis test.  Results: The hedonic test showed that panelists preferred beetroot juice with lemon juice, with a 'like' range for the aroma and viscosity and a 'neutral-like' range for the taste and color of beetroot juice. The antioxidant content in 300 ml of beetroot juice was 53,34 ± 0,13%. In conclusion, beetroot juice has a high antioxidant content and health benefits in preventing NCD.

Covid 19 is a pandemic disease experienced throughout the world. This pandemic causes limitations on activities outside the home so it will impact the health and mentality of adolescents. Adolescent girls are in a period of transition from children to adults. Adolescence is an age that is very vulnerable to nutritional problems, this is caused by a lack of self-confidence, lifestyle, and knowledge of balanced nutrition. Often, young women feel dissatisfied with their body shape, so they go on a diet to get the desired body shape. This study aimed to determine the relationship between body image and nutritional status in young women during the Covid 19 pandemic in Pontianak City. This research is an observational study with a cross-sectional design chosen randomly and then the Pontianak Health Polytechnic, Stikes Yarsi, and Aisyiyah Polytechnic were selected. The sample in the study was 102 female students using sampling using proportional random sampling. Data collection was carried out in March-April 2022. The data collection technique measured the waist-hip ratio (RLPP) and used a figure rating scale questionnaire with a Cronbach alpha of 0.85. Then the data were analyzed using the chi-square test with a 95% confidence level. The results of this study indicate that 76 respondents (74.5%) have a negative body image and 26 respondents (25.5%) have a positive body image. In comparison, regarding the nutritional status of young women 74 respondents (72.5%) were obese and 28 respondents (27.5%) were not obese. Abstract

Due to the persisting development of SARS-CoV-2 variants, studies on the kinetics, duration, and function of antibodies are essential for vaccine development and long-term immunity prediction. This longitudinal study examined post-vaccination antibody responses in people after receiving CoronaVac or ChAdOx1 vaccines with or without a history of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Conducted in Indonesia between August 2021 and May 2023, this study involved 121 participants divided into two groups based on the received vaccine types and monitored for 18 months post-second dose vaccination by assessing the binding antibody (BAb) level and neutralizing antibody (NAb) inhibition rate at six time points. The study also documented the participants’ age, gender, and body mass index (BMI). Before the first dose vaccination, 85 (70.25%) participants were reactive BAb (defined by BAb level ≥50 AU/mL) indicating a history of infection. In the CoronaVac group, only 53.1% were reactive BAb. However, 100% of participants were positive NAb (defined by NAb inhibition rate ≥30%), which indicates a past history of infection with low initial or rapidly decreasing BAb levels. In the ChAdOx1 group, 81,9% of participants were reactive, while only 54.2% were positive NAb, suggesting a recent infection with a high BAb level but a relatively low NAb inhibition rate. During the 18 months post-second dose vaccination, the BAb levels fluctuated. However, 100% of participants were positive NAb. No significant difference in antibody response was documented among participants with or without infection history. Also, no significant impact was presented by the factors of sex, age, and BMI. The findings highlight the crucial of the vaccine in public health and how vaccination strategies could be optimized effectively during and after the post-pandemic.

Abstract

COVID-19 is still a major problem and characterized by the development and progression of inflammatory responses. Assessment of disease degree includes several tools, such as the pneumonia severity index (PSI). However, because the pandemic occurs in all regions in Indonesia, not all health facilities have a complete diagnostic tool to assess the severity of pneumonia. It is necessary to have an easy, inexpensive, and readily available examination to determine the COVID-19 disease's severity, such as Neutrophil-to-Lymphocyte Ratio (NLR). The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between NLR and PSI in COVID-19 patients. The research was carried out on the COVID-19 ward of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Hospital in February 2021. Examination of laboratory parameters and X-rays was carried out when the patients entered the Emergency Room at the hospital. A prospective cohort study, with the population being patients >18 years old with mild to critical COVID-19 and being admitted from February to March 2021. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Pearson correlation test with SPSS 25, in which case p was deemed significant if it was <0.05. Results were obtained from 49 COVID-19 patients treated in the COVID-19 ward, whose mean age was 49.83 + 13.31, NLR and PSI were 8.85 + 13.25, 61.673 + 26.635, respectively. There was a strong positive correlation between NLR and PSI (p = 0.001; r = 0.488). NLR was correlated with PSI in COVID-19 patients.

Abstract

Liddle syndrome, a rare form of monogenic hypertension, poses significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to its phenotypic variability and the need for genetic testing. The rarity of the condition, coupled with the limited availability of first-line treatments such as epithelial sodium channel (ENaC) blockers, makes this case report particularly urgent and novel, highlighting alternative management strategies in resource-limited settings. The aim of this case report was to present the diagnostic challenges, therapeutic strategies, and clinical outcomes of a patient with Liddle syndrome who did not have access to ENaC blockers, emphasizing the importance of early recognition and personalized treatment. A 35-year-old female presented with resistant hypertension (190/100 mmHg) and bilateral limb weakness. Laboratory results revealed persistent hypokalemia, hypernatremia, and metabolic alkalosis. Low aldosterone levels, alongside clinical and family history, led to the diagnosis of Liddle syndrome. Genetic testing was not conducted due to resource limitations, and ENaC blockers were unavailable. The patients were managed with a combination of alternative antihypertensive agents, potassium supplementation, and a low-sodium diet. Although this approach led to modest improvements in blood pressure and motor strength, persistent hypokalemia and hypernatremia underscored the suboptimal control of the syndrome's underlying pathophysiology in the absence of ENaC blockers. This case highlights the challenges faced in resource-limited settings and the need for innovative strategies to manage rare conditions like Liddle syndrome. Liddle syndrome's diagnostic and therapeutic challenges underscore the critical importance of early recognition and access to targeted therapies. In the absence of ENaC blockers, alternative treatment strategies can provide some benefit, but they often fall short of optimal management. This case emphasizes the need for enhanced clinical awareness, improved access to genetic testing, and the development of personalized treatment approaches to achieve better patient outcomes.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Psoriasis can develop into systemic psoriasis, which primarily affects the liver, bile ducts, and cardiovascular system. Assessing the severity of psoriasis was crucial for determining treatment and cardiovascular disease risk. The aim of this study was to determine the role of Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT), High Sensitivity C-Reactive Protein (HS-CRP), and apolipoprotein B (APO B) in assessing the severity of psoriasis. Methods: This study was a cross-sectional, observational analytic study. A total of 33 psoriasis patients were tested for GGT, HS-CRP, APO B levels, and the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score. Results: The average GGT level was 70.75±56.47 u/L, the average HS-CRP level was 0.91±1.03 mg/L, the average APO B level was 110.09±26.47 mg/dL, and the average PASI score was 11.70±4.54. 12.1% of patients had mild psoriasis, 51.5% had moderate psoriasis, and 36.4% had severe psoriasis. There was a positive and strong correlation between GGT and PASI score, HS-CRP and PASI score, and APO B and PASI score. The multivariate correlation between GGT, HS-CRP, and APO B with PASI score had a value of R = 0.874, F = 31.145, p = <0.001. Conclusion: The multivariate correlation between GGT, HS-CRP, and APO B with PASI scores shows a positive and strong correlation, thus it useful for assessing the severity of psoriasis and evaluating the likelihood of cardiovascular disease.
