Abstract

Abstract

Pekarangan as one of the potential natural resources and closest to the family can be the right and strategic choice to be used in realizing family-scale food resiliency. The research was conducted in Transmigration area of East Lampung from June 2021 to December 2021. The determination of the pekarangan sample by purposive sampling was carried out on four transmigration ethnics, i.e., the Javanese (100 samples), the Sundanese (100 samples), the Balinese (100 samples) , and the Madurese (13 population), as well as local transmigration, i.e., the Lampungnese (100 samples). Pekarangan model is determined from species diversities on agroforestry system and its plant multistorey condition. The results of identification found three agroforestry systems as a pekarangan model, i.e., the agroforest system (Maduranese pekarangan), agrosilvopastoral (Balinese, Javanese, and Lampungnese pekarangans), and agrosilvopastoralfishery (Sundanese pekarangan). Each agroforestry system contributed to food sources by 54.54% (agroforest), 46.15% to 65.51% (agrosilvopastoral), and 89.28% (agrosilvopastoralfishery).

Abstract

Rapid urban expansion has intensified pressure on public green open spaces and reduced the ecological functions of urban landscapes. Urban agroforestry has increasingly been recognized as a relevant nature-based approach, as it reinforces ecological functions, enhances community well-being, and optimizes the multifunctionality of public green open spaces amid urbanization pressures. However, its sustainability and policy implications in limited urban public green spaces remain insufficiently explored. This study aims to develop evidence-based policy priorities for managing limited and spatially fragmented public green open spaces by integrating agroforestry as a core policy component through the combination of Multi-Aspect Sustainability Analysis (MSA) and Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM). The method employed is a combination of Multi-Aspect Sustainability Analysis and Interpretive Structural Modeling to assess the sustainability of urban agroforestry systems. A sustainability index of 51.84% indicated a moderately sustainable condition, with strong performance in ecological, social, and infrastructure dimensions but weaker outcomes in economic and legal–institutional aspects. Key drivers included consumer dependence on agroforestry products, the availability of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for urban agroforestry management, and the economic value of agroforestry products (vegetables, fruits, timber, honey, livestock). The findings highlight the necessity of integrated, adaptive, and evidence-based policies to ensure the long-term sustainability of urban agroforestry systems and enhance the quality of public green open spaces.

Abstract

Land use and land cover changes in Indonesia, particularly those resulting from the expansion of oil palm plantations, are a critical issue in environmental dynamics and sustainable development. This study aims to analyze trends and characteristics of scientific publications related to LULCC in Indonesia using a bibliometric approach. Data were analyzed using VOSviewer and Biblioshiny to identify knowledge structures, thematic trends, and research topic developments. Results indicate that publications have experienced an annual growth rate of 9.68% with a relatively high level of collaboration. Dominant themes identified include land use, deforestation, and Indonesia, and suggest that in the literature, oil palm expansion is frequently associated with changes in land cover. Temporal analysis also indicates a shift in research focus toward issues of climate change, sustainability, and environmental monitoring. Overall, this study confirms that LULCC research in Indonesia is developing in a multidisciplinary manner and contributes to understanding research directions while supporting evidence-based policy-making.

Abstract

Bali’s marine resources is an important economy asset as well as food resource for local community and marine tourism. Nusa Penida Island is located in Nusa Penida District, Klungkung Region, Bali Province. It is belonging to the coral triangle area, the highest marine biodiversity in the world. Based on Decision Letter from Ministry of Marine and Fishery number 24/2014 about Nusa Penida Marine Conservation Area in Klungkung Region, Nusa Penida marine area was designated as Marine Tourism Park. Most of coastal communities in Nusa Penida are seaweed farmer. Marine tourism activity has significant impact for community’s life. Integrated development is required to be done for its sustainability. The objective of this study is to analyze marine tourism contribution for community’s prosperity in coastal area of Nusa Penida Island. Purposive sampling is chosen to collecting field data trough interview and questionnaire in 30 respondents and analyzed used BPS’s indicator (2011). As much as 90% of coastal community in Nusa Penida is categorized in moderate living condition. Marine tourism activity contributes about 36% of local income, it’s mean that marine tourism activity in Nusa Penida give positive contribution for local communities’ prosperity.

Abstract

The expansion of oil palm plantations in South Barito Regency, Central Kalimantan has accelerated significantly from 402.72 ha/year (2011–2014) to 776.70 ha/year (2014–2022), raising serious concerns about the conformity of actual land use with the Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) 2014–2034 and the biophysical suitability of plantation development sites. This study aims to evaluate the conformity of oil palm plantation spatial utilization with RTRW policy and formulate strategic recommendations for RTRW improvement, with emphasis on institutional implications. A Geographic Information System (GIS) approach was employed, integrating multi-temporal satellite imagery analysis (Sentinel-2, 2014 and 2022), biophysical land suitability assessment using BBSDLP guidelines, spatial conformity analysis through overlay of existing land use maps with RTRW spatial patterns, and a Pentahelix-based SWOT analysis involving five stakeholder groups: Government, Academia, Business, Community, and Media. Results reveal that only 31.02% (4,325.39 ha) of existing plantations are located within conforming zones, while 58.9% (8,217.83 ha) are in non-conforming zones—predominantly overlapping with mining zones (31.51%) and residential zones (27.28%). Land use dynamics show a dramatic 289.40% increase in swampland and a 36.32% decline in shrubland, while plantation area itself decreased by 12.64% despite maintaining 83.53% persistence. Biophysical land suitability assessment reveals that 49.42% of the study area falls under the not suitable (N) class, with rooting media constraints as the primary limiting factor. SWOT-Pentahelix positioning in Quadrant IV (WT) yields five hierarchical strategies for RTRW improvement: ecological restoration, institutional strengthening and permit conflict resolution, RTRW revision based on land suitability, land rehabilitation and transitional zone management, and strengthened monitoring systems. These findings demonstrate significant gaps in spatial planning implementation and inter-sectoral coordination, contributing to the evidence base for evidence-driven spatial policy reform in Indonesia.
