Abstract

Abstract

This house yard (pekarangan) research was conducted at three sites of the Way Seputih-Sekampung watershed, which are represented by the upstream (Mulyosari Village), middle (Margodadi Village), and downstream (Tejosari Village), Metro Municipality, Lampung Province from May to July 2022. The objective of this research is to analyze the yard as a productive landscape by analyzing: 1) plant composition, 2) the diversity of plant species, and 3) utilization of the yard. Surveys and questionnaires were used. The number of yards was determined by purposive sampling, totaling 30 yards belonging to members of the Women Farmers’ Group (KWT) at each location. The results showed that horizontal diversity includes ornamental, fruit, vegetable, medicinal, and starch-producing plants. Sixteen types of plants were frequently found in 46% of yards. It was found that the Shannon-Wiener species diversity decreased from upstream to downstream, that is, upstream (2.41), middle (2.33), and downstream (1.82). Although the diversity of plant species is moderate on average, communities use their yards according to their function. The community was aware of the benefits of the yard, particularly its contribution to environmental sustainability, as indicated by the assessment index for the upstream (87%), midstream (93%), and downstream (94%) sites. Thus, the yard is very useful for the community as a place for interaction during the Covid-19 pandemic. Such benefits are said to be better if landscape management is carried out in a planned and environmentally friendly manner. Keywords: community, home garden utilization, landscape management, pandemic, species diversity

Abstract

The greater Jakarta is an intimate urban area that evolved into the largest integrated metropolis in Indonesia. It plays a significant role in social, economic, and political aspects. To be considered seriously, however, is the lack of planning capacity in increasingly complex area management. This study seeks to determine urban temperature profiles, classify land cover, and analyze surface albedo in Jakarta greater area. Firstly, the temperature profile is analyzed using nine years of diurnal temperature data. Secondly, land cover classification was analyzed using Landsat 7 ETM+ and Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS image datasets. Thirdly, surface albedo analysis was conducted using previously derived spatial data and land cover characteristics. Results of the temperature profile indicate that urban areas have a longer cooling period than suburban areas. The classification procedure yields seven classes of land cover with an accuracy rate of 80.95% (2010) and 83.33% (2018); the kappa coefficient is 0.74 (2010) and 0.77 (2018), respectively. Since 2010, urban areas have expanded, as can be deduced from the evidence. The distribution of surface albedo values from high to low includes built-up land, grass/shrubs, vegetation, water bodies, and moist soil. Additionally, surface albedo and air temperature positively correlate with land cover variations. This is demonstrated by the high R-square values between albedo and land cover (0.84 and 0.90) and air temperature and land cover (0.59 and 0.60). In other words, land cover changes can increase albedo and air temperature.

Abstract

The construction of the Soreang-Pasirkoja Toll Road (Soroja) aims to improve connectivity and encourage economic growth in the Bandung area and its surroundings. This study aims to analyze land cover change as well as the economic and environmental impacts caused by the construction of the Soroja Toll Road. The methods used include spatial analysis of land cover changes in 2017-2023 and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) approach to assess the priority of impacts and formulate recommendations. The results of the study indicate that the construction of the Soroja toll road has caused significant conversion of agricultural land into developed areas by 10,21%, leading to a decline in food production and changes in the livelihood structure of the community. The recommendations include the need to monitor spatial planning, creating green open spaces, managing proper drainage to mitigate environmental deterioration, and involving communities and the government to reduce the impacts caused by the construction of the Soroja Toll Road.
