Abstract

Soil fertility in land after nickel mining has a change in soil texture that changes both the profile color and the soil irregularity. Stable soil fertility can support plant growth. Damage to the physical properties of the soil due to the loss of the soil interest (solum) by the ongoing washing of the soil. This results in the loss of some cations in soil colloids, resulting in low acidity (pH) of the soil becoming acidic. Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) as the amount of charge of cations absorbed by soil colloids at a certain pH. Another factor in the decline in CEC is the decreasing number of cation nutrients that can be exchanged. The relationship with reclaimed and revegetated land is influenced by climatic factors with rainfall intensity. Soil fertility on revegetated land with CEC value and C-organic content was very low. Such soil fertility conditions are found in the revegetated zone with large leaf acacia (A. mangium) vegetation; sengon (P. falcataria); ketapang (T. catappa) and waru (H. tiliaceus). Soils that have low soil nutrient content are characterized by low organic matter content, very low available P content, and low cation exchange capacity.

Abstract

Background: Urban agriculture’s role in mitigating the urban environment deterioration as ecosystem services provider. Urban agriculture adds various functions to different landscape scales, providing numerous benefits if managed correctly. This paper aims to study the role of urban agriculture as ecosystem services provider in mitigating urban environment deterioration. Method: The method that will be used in this article is literature review from articles related to urban agriculture and ecosystem services from provisioning, regulating, services, and culture. The review is compiled from urban agriculture’s function as ecosystem services provider, such as biodiversity conservation, microclimate regulation, aesthetic function, and food production. Result: In essence, urban agriculture is a diverse and vital solution for cities, and it takes various forms, from private gardens to community plots, addressing challenges like limited public funding and promoting greening initiatives. Urban agriculture plays a key role in biodiversity conservation, contributing to enhanced environmental benefits and the preservation of local habitats. Another crucial role in regulating the complex dynamics of the urban microclimate, offering ecological benefits such as reduced Urban Heat Island effects, wind protection, and pollutant absorption. Beyond its ecological impact, urban agriculture adds aesthetic value to urban spaces, creating visually appealing landscapes and promoting cultural integration. Moreover, it serves as a multifaceted strategy for sustainable urban development, addressing food security, resilience, and well-being. Conclusion: Amidst challenges, such as the threat to urban biodiversity and the need for proper green space management, urban agriculture emerges as a holistic approach, contributing to the visual, cultural, and environmental fabric of cities. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study offers a new perspective on urban agriculture as a multifunctional solution to address urban environmental degradation. By integrating agriculture into the urban landscape, the study reveals the transformative potential for creating greener, more resilient and sustainable cities.

Abstract

Kekhawatiran terhadap paparan suhu tinggi dalam jangka waktu lama yang dapat berdampak serius terhadap kesehatan manusia, produktivitas dan infrastruktur terjadi di banyak negara berkembang terutama yang terletak di wilayah tropis. Kawasan metropolitan menghadapi risiko tambahan akibat dampak UHI ini dikarenakan kondisi kepadatannya, dan desain pemukiman yang tidak terencana. Sementara itu, penduduknya kurang mempunyai kemampuan finansial untuk memitigasi dampak. Kemampuan untuk menghindari, mengelola dan membangun ketahanan terhadap dampak UHI di masa depan akan tergantung pada keputusan yang diambil saat ini. Policy brief ini menyoroti peluang-peluang utama untuk mitigasi UHI dalam bidang perencanaan kota, energi, dan penghijauan diantaranya dengan instalasi permukaan reflektif (cool roof, cool pavement, dan cool wall) serta infrastruktur hijau (green roof dan kanopi tanaman). Desain perkotaan dan investasi infrastruktur, kesenjangan sosial ekonomi, dan risiko perubahan iklim harus dikelola secara bersamaan. Tindakan yang diperlukan termasuk mereformasi standar bangunan, melakukan tinjauan kerentanan, dan berinvestasi pada infrastruktur yang dibangun untuk menahan serta meminimalkan paparan panas guna mewujudkan “cool city”, kota yang lebih sejuk.

Abstract

Background: The global environmental crisis needs fundamental changes in people's attitudes and behaviors towards sustainability. The Bodogol Nature Conservation Education Center (PPKAB) in Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park has significant potential to support environmental education but remains underutilized due to a lack of integration with school curricula. The research problem is that PPKAB’s programs are not fully integrated, leading to suboptimal use and stagnant development. Purpose: This study aims to develop a synergy between PPKAB’s environmental education programs and the Independent Curriculum for junior high schools. Design/Methodology: The Study is a quantitative and descriptive qualitative. Utilizing the Analysis of Operational Areas and Natural Tourism Objects and Attractions (ADO-ODTWA) method, and involving ten including academics, business, community, government and media, the study assessed the feasibility and developed a synergy matrix. Findings/Result: The findings indicated a feasibility score of 76,3%, suggesting suitability for developing educational programs. The research recommends developing two environmental education synergy programs, namely School Visit Synergy and School Visits, to complement the independent curriculum at junior high school (SMP). Conclusion: As a conclusion, it is highly advised integrating PPKAB’s programs with school curricula to improve environmental education quality at the junior high level. This research produced significant results in environmental education.Originality/Value (State of the art): The added value of this research is that it emphasizes the business potential of ecotourism in supporting local economies and conservation efforts through strategic partnerships and innovative program development. Abstract

Bekasi, sebagai kota besar dengan jumlah penduduk mencapai 3,08 juta jiwa pada tahun 2020, menghadapi tantangan banjir yang semakin parah setiap tahun. Dengan laju pertumbuhan penduduk 2,7% per tahun dan ruang terbuka hijau yang hanya tersisa 16% dari luas wilayah, alih fungsi lahan terus memperburuk dampak banjir. Pada Februari 2021, banjir menggenangi 94 titik di Bekasi dengan kedalaman mencapai 2,5 meter di beberapa area permukiman, menyebabkan kerugian ekonomi dan sosial yang besar. Selain itu, biaya yang dikeluarkan untuk penanganan banjir semakin membebani anggaran, mencapai Rp74 miliar dari APBN dan Rp6,7 miliar dari APBD pada tahun 2020. Upaya mitigasi yang ada, seperti 37 polder dan normalisasi saluran, terbukti belum efektif, karena luas genangan terus meningkat setiap tahun. Pendekatan mitigasi yang lebih terstruktur dan menyeluruh sangat dibutuhkan agar kota tidak semakin rentan. Policy brief ini menawarkan solusi berupa model mitigasi banjir berbasis resiliensi yang menggabungkan intervensi struktural dan nonstruktural serta meningkatkan peran masyarakat dan kolaborasi antarlembaga. Model ini diharapkan mampu menciptakan Bekasi yang lebih tangguh, mengurangi kerugian yang ditimbulkan oleh banjir, dan mendukung keberlanjutan kota dalam jangka panjang.

Abstract

This house yard (pekarangan) research was conducted at three sites of the Way Seputih-Sekampung watershed, which are represented by the upstream (Mulyosari Village), middle (Margodadi Village), and downstream (Tejosari Village), Metro Municipality, Lampung Province from May to July 2022. The objective of this research is to analyze the yard as a productive landscape by analyzing: 1) plant composition, 2) the diversity of plant species, and 3) utilization of the yard. Surveys and questionnaires were used. The number of yards was determined by purposive sampling, totaling 30 yards belonging to members of the Women Farmers’ Group (KWT) at each location. The results showed that horizontal diversity includes ornamental, fruit, vegetable, medicinal, and starch-producing plants. Sixteen types of plants were frequently found in 46% of yards. It was found that the Shannon-Wiener species diversity decreased from upstream to downstream, that is, upstream (2.41), middle (2.33), and downstream (1.82). Although the diversity of plant species is moderate on average, communities use their yards according to their function. The community was aware of the benefits of the yard, particularly its contribution to environmental sustainability, as indicated by the assessment index for the upstream (87%), midstream (93%), and downstream (94%) sites. Thus, the yard is very useful for the community as a place for interaction during the Covid-19 pandemic. Such benefits are said to be better if landscape management is carried out in a planned and environmentally friendly manner. Abstract

Pertanian perkotaan di Kecamatan Cempaka Putih, Jakarta Pusat, menghadapi berbagai tantangan terkait dengan keterbatasan lahan, perubahan lingkungan, dan ketahanan pangan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan rekomendasi strategi yang dapat diimplementasikan untuk keberlanjutan komunitas pertanian perkotaan yang dapat memperkuat ketahanan pangan di pusat kota, khususnya di Kecamatan Cempaka Putih. Metode penelitian yang digunakan meliputi analisis SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity, Threat) melalui FGD (Focus Group Discussion) dengan pemangku kepentingan untuk mengidentifikasi faktor internal dan eksternal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa strategi keberlanjutan pertanian perkotaan berbasis komunitas di Kecamatan Cempaka Putih dapat diimplementasikan melalui pemanfaatan teknologi pertanian serta penguatan kolaborasi antara masyarakat, sektor swasta, dan pemerintah. Analisis SWOT mengindikasikan bahwa pemanfaatan kekuatan dan peluang yang tersedia perlu diarahkan pada strategi agresif, seperti integrasi agrofishery, pengembangan pertanian vertikal dan hidroponik, serta penguatan ekosistem pasar lokal. Oleh karena itu, diperlukan kebijakan yang mendukung, termasuk pemberian insentif bagi komunitas pertanian perkotaan, fasilitasi investasi, serta penyediaan infrastruktur dan pendampingan berkelanjutan. Implementasi strategi ini menjadi langkah krusial dalam meningkatkan ketahanan pangan, serta mendukung keberlanjutan lingkungan, ekonomi, dan sosial masyarakat setempat.

Abstract

Perubahan penggunaan lahan akibat pertumbuhan populasi manusia meningkatkan tekanan pada lingkungan. Lanskap agroforestri merupakan sistem mixed-use sebagai menawarkan solusi dalam memenuhi kebutuhan manusia sekaligus mempertahankan jasa lanskap. Penelitian ini menganalisis jasa lanskap berupa keragaman jenis tanaman, penyimpanan karbon, dan tata kelola air dengan menggunakan i-Tree ECO. Hasil Analisis menujukan jasa lanskap agroforestri mampu berkontribusi terhadap tekanan lingkungan sesuai pada tujuan Sustainable Development Goals SDG’s 11 (pembangunan perkotaan dan masyarakat kota yang berkelanjutan), SDG’s 13 (mitigasi perubahan iklim) dan SDG’s 15 (serta perlindungan ekosistem daratan). Lanskap agroforestri pada penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam keragaman jenis tanaman dengan tingkat sedang, sebagai penyedia sumber daya genetik, penyedia makanan, peningkatan produksi biomasa, ketahanan varietas lokal dan sebagai area penyangga dalam lanskap. Lanskap agroforestri pada penelitian ini menyimpan karbon dalam jumlah sedang yang mendukung target Indonesia mengurangi emisi karbon pada tahun 2030. Lanskap agroforestri penelitian ini berkontribusi dalam mengurangi limpasan air melalui evapotranspirasi dan infiltrasi tanah, meningkatkan ketahanan lingkungan terhadap musim kemarau.

Abstract

Jabodetabek telah berkembang dari daerah kota kecil dan terpisah menjadi kota metropolitan yang lebih besar dan terpadu. Saat ini, Jabodetabek telah menjadi kota terbesar di Indonesia dan memainkan peran penting dalam aspek sosial, ekonomi dan politik. Namun, kurangnya kemampuan perencanaan dalam hal pengelolaan kawasan yang semakin kompleks perlu ditanggapi secara serius. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui profil suhu perkotaan, klasifikasi tutupan lahan di Jabodetabek, dan analisis albedo permukaan. Pertama, profil suhu dianalisis menggunakan data perubahan suhu diurnal dan suhu harian selama sembilan tahun. Kedua, klasifikasi tutupan lahan dianalisis menggunakan dataset citra Landsat 7 ETM+ dan Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS. Ketiga, analisis albedo permukaan dilakukan dengan menggunakan paduan data spasial dan karakteristik tutupan lahan yang diperoleh sebelumnya. Hasil profil suhu menunjukkan bahwa daerah perkotaan memiliki periode pendinginan yang lebih lambat dibandingkan dengan daerah pinggiran kota. Proses klasifikasi menghasilkan tujuh kelas tutupan lahan dengan tingkat akurasi sebesar 80,95% (2010) dan 83,33% (2018), koefisien kappa masing-masing sebesar 0,74 (2010) dan 0,77 (2018). Oleh karena itu, dapat disimpulkan bahwa terjadi perluasan wilayah perkotaan sejak tahun 2010. Distribusi nilai albedo permukaan berturut-turut dari tinggi ke rendah yaitu lahan terbangun, rumput/semak, vegetasi, badan air, dan tanah lembap/tambak. Disamping itu, albedo permukaan dan suhu udara memiliki korelasi positif terhadap perubahan tutupan lahan. Hal ini ditunjukkan dengan tingginya R-square antara albedo dan tutupan lahan (0,84 dan 0,90) dan antara suhu udara dan tutupan lahan (0,59 dan 0,63). Dengan kata lain, perubahan tutupan lahan dapat meningkatkan nilai albedo dan suhu udara.
