Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) therapy in improving communication and interaction skills through eye contact in children with autism at SDK Santa Maria Assumpta, Kupang City. The problems underlying this study are the children's low focus when communicating, difficulty responding to calls, and minimal eye contact when receiving instructions. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach. Data collection was conducted through participatory observation of the therapy implementation and interviews with therapists and school officials. Data were analysed using the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. ABA was implemented through focus training with word and movement imitation, directing the child's head to establish eye contact with the therapist, and giving simple instructions that were gradually increased. Each appropriate response was reinforced through verbal praise. The results of the study showed that the application of ABA therapy was able to increase the duration and consistency of eye contact, imitation skills, compliance with instructions, and the development of basic academic skills such as writing and puzzle solving. These findings indicate that ABA therapy is effective as a structured intervention to support the development of communication and interaction in children with autism in primary school settings.

Abstract

Basic literacy skills, including reading, writing, and arithmetic, are the main foundation for the learning success of primary school students. However, after the Covid-19 pandemic, some students in Indonesia, including those in Kupang City, still experience difficulties in mastering basic literacy due to learning loss. This study aims to analyse basic literacy clinical assistance strategies through the Lopo Pintar Programme as a community-based intervention model in supporting the recovery of primary school students' literacy skills. The research method used is a narrative literature review by examining scientific articles, education policy reports, and relevant local government programme documents. The results of the study show that contextual, intensive, and collaborative clinical literacy assistance has proven effective in improving the reading and writing skills of primary school students. The involvement of teacher training students as learning assistants also plays an important role in creating an adaptive, interactive, and meaningful learning process for students. These findings confirm that community-based literacy interventions are a relevant and sustainable strategy for accelerating the recovery of students' basic literacy skills after the Covid-19 pandemic.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between arm muscle strength and underhand serving skills in volleyball among students at SMK Negeri 3 Kota Kupang. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The study population consisted of 22 students who participated in volleyball extracurricular activities, and the entire population was sampled using total sampling technique. Data collection techniques were carried out through tests and measurements, namely push-up tests to measure arm muscle strength and standard volleyball underhand serve tests to measure students' underhand serve skills. The data obtained were analysed using Pearson Product Moment correlation analysis techniques after meeting the analysis prerequisites. The results showed a correlation coefficient of r = -0.222 with a significance value of p = 0.321 (p > 0.05). These findings indicate that there is no significant relationship between arm muscle strength and underhand serving skills in students at SMK Negeri 3 Kota Kupang. Thus, it can be concluded that underhand serving skills in volleyball are not only influenced by arm muscle strength but are more determined by other factors such as technical mastery, movement coordination, and timing in serving.

Abstract

Fine motor skills play an important role in supporting the independence and learning activities of children with intellectual disabilities, but intellectual limitations and motor coordination often become obstacles in mastering these skills. This study aims to improve the fine motor skills of children with intellectual disabilities through the application of sewing skills. The study uses a classroom action research (CAR) approach with the Kemmis and McTaggart model, which is carried out in two cycles, including the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were three fifth-grade students with intellectual disabilities at SLB Negeri Weri Larantuka. Data were collected through sewing performance tests and student activity observation sheets. Data analysis was conducted descriptively and quantitatively by comparing fine motor skill scores in each cycle, as well as descriptively and qualitatively through observation results to see changes in student behavior and involvement during learning. The results showed an increase in fine motor skills in each cycle, as seen in the increased neatness of the stitching, accuracy in following patterns, and eye-hand coordination. At the end of cycle II, all research subjects achieved scores above the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM). Thus, jelujur sewing skills proved to be effective as an alternative functional learning method to improve the fine motor skills of children with intellectual disabilities

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of arm muscle strength training on underarm passing skills in volleyball for upper-grade male students at Maubeli Elementary School, North Central Timor Regency. The study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The population and sample size were 20 students (total sampling). The treatment, arm muscle strength training, was given in a structured manner over five sessions. Data analysis included descriptive statistics, residual normality tests, and simple linear regression. The results showed a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.458 and a determination coefficient (R²) of 0.210, indicating that 21.0% of the variation in underarm passing skills was influenced by arm muscle strength. The ANOVA test showed F count = 4.774 with Sig. = 0.042 (<0.05), indicating that arm muscle strength training significantly influenced underarm passing skills. The regression equation obtained was Y = 0.080 + 0.683X. These findings confirm that an arm muscle strength training program can be used as a physical education (PJOK) learning strategy to improve the quality of basic volleyball underarm passing techniques in elementary school students. Abstract

The forward roll skill among primary school pupils remains relatively low, as some pupils experience difficulties with the movement sequence, lack flexibility, and feel anxious when performing the movement. This study aims to improve the forward roll skill among Year 5 pupils at Maol State Primary School through the use of an inclined mat as an aid. The study employed the Classroom Action Research (CAR) method, conducted over two cycles, each comprising the planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects consisted of 25 pupils. Data were collected through observation of pupil activities and forward roll skill tests using a psychomotor assessment rubric, and were subsequently analysed descriptively to assess improvements in learning outcomes across each cycle. The results of the study indicate that the use of the inclined mat was effective in improving students’ forward roll skills. In cycle I, an average score of 73.08 was obtained with a mastery rate of 56%, whilst in cycle II this increased to an average of 78.40 with a mastery rate of 80%, thus exceeding the research target of at least 75% of students achieving the Minimum Mastery Criteria. In addition to improving learning outcomes, the use of the inclined mat also helped to reduce fear and boost students’ confidence when performing the movement
