Abstract

The condition of the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world, including Indonesia, which can cause death, requires the public to take preventive measures. One of the efforts that can be made so as not to be exposed to COVID-19 is to increase a healthy lifestyle and consumption of nutritious food during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of education is to improve healthy lifestyle and consume nutrtitious food for vulnerable groups. The targets of this activity is children under-fives, pregnant women, and the elderly as many as 17 targets who are in the working area of Pauh Puskesmas and Puskesmas Padang Pasir, Padang City. The method is carried out by means of counseling which begin by visiting the target house, which is then carried out through WhatsApp (WA) social media. In educational activities, service providers, through the media leaflets and posters that have been designed, are then conveyed directly to the service target and through social media, namely the WA group. Educational activities during the pandemic went quite well was followed by 17 mothers with children under five and elderly. This was shown with a quite high enthusiasm when the activity begins and some target asked the questions related to material that had not been understood and then answered by the service provider. Various efforts and strategies are needed from health workers so that educational activities can still be carried out for the community in breaking the chain of the spread of COVID-19.

Abstract

Stunting is a nutritional problem caused by lack of nutritional intake for a long time in the first 1000 days of life (HPK), which is a critical period, resulting in growth disorders in children, namely the child's height is lower or shorter (short) than the legal age. Stunting in West Sumatra increased by 5.1%, from 25.5% in 2016 to 30.6% in 2017. Pauh Health Center is the health center with the highest stunting incidence in Padang City, 31%. The activity aims to increase the knowledge and healthy behavior of pregnant women and mothers under five to prevent stunting. The stunting-themed educational activity was carried out on five cadre representatives from each kelurahan and 21 respondents consisting of 10 pregnant women and 11 mothers with toddlers. This activity is carried out through social media Whatsapp. Through this social media, devotees create groups and deliver materials using leaflets that have been previously designed as a health promotion tool. The distributed leaflet was entitled Prevent Stunting with Diet, Clean and Healthy Lifestyle During the First 1000 Days of Life. The educational activities went well and received a good response and enthusiasm from the respondents. This is shown by respondents' enthusiasm to ask questions and share information obtained through their social media accounts. The education provided was also well conveyed as indicated by the increase in respondents' knowledge regarding stunting by comparing the pre-test and post-test results. For this reason, educational activities using social media need to be continuously implemented to increase public knowledge, especially the nutritionally vulnerable groups, namely pregnant women and toddlers.

Abstract

Nutritional problems in children under five age show an increasing trend in Indonesia, including Padang City. One of these nutritional problems is stunting. Stunting conditions can have an impact on the growth and development of children at a later age and even at the risk of developing degenerative diseases in adulthood. The purpose of nutrition education for mothers is to increase the knowledge and understanding of mothers about the importance of the First 1000 Days of Life in overcoming the nutritional problems among children. Activity was direct counseling to small groups about 1000 Days of Life and supported by leaflet. The target of the activity is pregnant women and mothers with toddlers who visit one of the Posyandu in Lapai Health Center Work Area, Nanggalo District, Padang City. Partner of this activity is Lapai Health Centre, mainly coorporate with nutritionist and health workers, including cadres in this health centre. Monitoring and evaluation of the success of activities are assessed from the results of the pre- and post-test submitted to the target of the activity. Educational activities were carried out well even though they were still in the pandemic and the implementation of social distancing. This activity was attended by 12 mothers of toddlers, 2 cadres, and 2 health workers from Lapai Health Center. Based on the results of the pre and post-test, it was found that there is an increase in the knowledge of mothers (66.7% to 83.3%). Thus, educational activities in the form of counseling through collaboration with educational institutions and health institutions can be carried out through Posyandu every month to prevent nutritional problems on children under five age.

Abstract

The problem of nutritional status in toddlers is a major concern worldwide, especially in developing countries such as Indonesia. Feeding difficulties in toddlers can cause nutritional status problems. Parents, especially mothers, play an important role in meeting their children's nutritional needs. Nutritional education activities aim to increase the knowledge of mothers of toddlers regarding good eating habits for improving the nutritional status of their children. The method used was direct counseling using leaflets as a medium, targeting mothers of toddlers who attend the Posyandu XIV Megamerian working in Puskesmas Dadok Tunggul Hitam, Padang City. 15 mothers of toddlers attended the activity, one health worker from Puskesmas Dadok Tunggul Hitam, two cadres, and four volunteers. Monitoring and evaluation were conducted by comparing the pre-test and post-test scores of the mothers of toddlers. Based on the results obtained, there was an increase in the average pre-test and post-test scores, from 45.56 to 61.11, with a statistical test result of p = 0.043. From these results, it can be concluded that providing nutritional education regarding good eating habits through leaflets can improve the knowledge and understanding of mothers of toddlers. Furthermore, this activity is expected to improve feeding and childcare behavior in toddlers. As a follow-up, nutritional education activities can be held regularly through Posyandu activities to overcome nutritional problems in Indonesian toddlers. In addition, the role of the community and support from relevant parties are also needed to improve the nutritional status of toddlers in this country.

Abstract

Vitamin A merupakan salah satu zat gizi mikro mempunyai manfaat yang sangat penting bagi tubuh manusia, terutama dalam penglihatan manusia. Seperti diketahui Vitamin A merupakan vitamin larut lemak yang pertama ditemukan. Secara umum, vitamin A merupakan nama generik yang menyatakan semua retinoid dan prekursor/provitamin A/ karotenoid yang mempunyai aktivitas biologic sebagai retinol.

Abstract

Nutrition and Health Surveillance System (NSS) year 1999 - 2003 shows prevalence of underweight (weightfor age < -2 SD from NCHS media) was very high, that is above 30% on infant at rural and urban slum areas. An underweight prevalence at urban slum areas is higher than rural slum areas, especially is at urban slum area of Jakarta. In this area prevalence of underweight children 12 -23 months of age (June-September 2003) was 42%. This study aims at know the characteristic of children 6 until 24 months and factors related with their nutrient status in urban slum of Jakarta. This study was using NSS secondary data period of June-September 2003. The study results show that child 18-24 months of age have risk in having underweight 2, 8 times compared with child 12-1 7 months and child 6-11 months. Moreover, child with birth weight < 2,5 kilo (OR = 2,9 times) and birth from mother with Body Mass Index d" 18,5 (OR = 1,64 times) and upper arm circumference < 23,5 cm ( OR = 1,48 times) have bigger risk in having underweight. The cause was cumulative effect of being underweight along life. Beside that, child with low birth weight record is difficult to catch up their growth if they do not get a good caring, especially adequate food.

Abstract

Prevalensi gizi kurus dan sangat kurus berdasarkan indeks berat badan menurut tinggi badan pada balita masih cukup tinggi di Kota Padang. Status gizi kurang pada balita terutama usia kritis, yaitu 6-24 bulan berdampak pada perkembangan balita. Perkembangan anak juga dipengaruhi oleh pola asuh, status kesehatan dan pekerjaan ibu. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahuiperkembangan anak usia 6-24 bidan dan faktor paling dominan berhubungan dengan perkembangan anak tersebut. Studi cross sectional dilakukan pada 96 anak sebagai sampel. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara menggunakan kuesioner terstruktur dan pengukuran antropometri. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan perkembangan anak meragukan masih cukup tinggi, 29,2% dengan kondisi gizi kurus. Pola asuh kurang baik dan ibu bekerja meningkatkan risiko perkembangan meragukan pada anak, dengan OR masing-masing 4,8 dan 4,7. Untuk itu perlu diperhatikan pola asuh anak terutama ibu yang bekerja untuk mencegah perkembangan anak yang kurang baik.

Abstract

The female adolescents are the future generation of the country and they are expected to birth a quality and healthy generation in the next day, for that need a good nutrient. According to the result of preliminary study, 23% of the female adolescents had malnutrition by Body Mass Index (BMI), and they have not got enough attention in the effort of preventing and eliminating the case of malnutrition. Consumption of macro nutrient, physical activity, body image, nutrient knowledge and attitude are factors that related to nutritional status. The objective of this research was to obtain illustration about female adolescent nutritional status and factors that related to it. The research design was Cross Sectional Study that was done in December 2007 — June 2008. The sample of this research was 65 girl students, taken by proportional. The nutritional status was determined by BMI, was taken from height and weight of each respondent. Nutritional consumption (energy, protein, fat and carbohydrate) collected by 24 hours recall. Then physical activity, body image, nutrient knowledge and attitude of respondent were collected by questionnaire. The data were analyzed with Chi-Square test to observe the relationship between the variables. The result showed that 21.5% of the female adolescents were malnutrition, 56% respondents got the low energy consumption, 33,8% low protein consumption. 16,9% low fat consumption and 53,8% low carbohydrate consumption, 52,3% had high physical activity, 5Q,8%> had negative body image, 55,4% had low nutrient knowledge and 24,6%> had negative attitude. The analyze showed that there was a significant relation between protein consumption, fat consumption, physical activity and body image with nutrient status respondent (p<0,05). It suggested the Health Department of Bukittinggi should do the trainingfor health workers and teachers continuity minimal once a year. They should explain nutrition information and promotion for female adolescents and notice the students nutrient status periodically. It also suggests to improve the activities of Health School Organization (UKS) and health adolescent cadre for using optima! Health Card Student.

Abstract

Penyakit Jantung Koroner (PJK) adalah salah satu penyebab kematian terbanyak, yang disebabkan oleh kadar kolesteol yang tinggi dalam darah. Berdasarkan data Rumah Sakit Achmad Mochtar Bukittinggi, terdapat 30 %pasien PJK di Poliklinik Jantung tahun 2008. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui faktor resiko dari kadar kolesterol total pada pasien PJK di RSAM Bukittinggi. Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah case control study, dengan kasus adalah pasien PJK di Poliklinik Jantung dan kontrol adalah pasien di Poliklinik Karyawanyang tidak menderita PJK dengan matching umur,jenis kelamin dan pekeijaan. Jumlah sampel 68 responden dengan rasio kasus dan kontrol, yaitu 1:1.Hasilpenelitian menunjukkan konsumsi makanan berserat dan IMT responden merupakan faktor resiko kadar kolesterol total. Diketahui responden dengan konsumsi makananberserat kurang beresiko 3,684 kali untuk memiliki kadar kolesterol tinggi dibanding responden dengan konsumsi makanan berserat cukup dan responden dengan kategori IMT tinggi beresiko 4,643 kali memiliki kadar kolestrol total tinggi dibanding responden dengan kategori IMT normal. Untuk itu, disarankan kepada masyarakat khususnya penderita PJK untuk meningkatkan konsumsi makananberserat dan menjaga berat badan dalam batas normal.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) merupakan kelainan metabolik yang disebabkan oleh banyak faktor. Faktor resiko terjadinya DM antara lain faktor genetik, pertambahan usia, kurangnya aktifitas fisik dan pola makan atau diet yang tidak seimbang. Artikel ini membahas penyakit DM dan peran asupan zat gizi dalam mencegah dan mengatasi Penyakit DM. Vitamin C adalah salah satu zat gizi mikro yang berperan dalam mengontrol kadar gula darah. Dianjurkan bagi masyarakat untuk mengonsumsi makanan secara seimbang dan bagi penderita DM disarankan untuk mengonsumsi makanan dengan Indeks Glikemik rendah, konsumsi serat yang cukup dan konsumsi buah-buahan serta sayuran yang banyak mengandungvitamin seperti vitamin C, yang berperan sebagai antioksidan dan mencegahberkembangnya Penyakit DM.
