Abstract

Mathematics in elementary school presents basic concepts that are useful for higher levels of education, including addition and subtraction. This material is taught starting from simple operations to more complex levels. Difficulty understanding basic concepts can hinder students' ability to absorb more advanced material. Therefore, to help students overcome their understanding problems, effective learning media is needed. Following Ausubel's learning theory, this research aims to develop Egg Countcrate Box media that is valid, practical and effective. Students will have a more interesting learning experience and develop a stronger desire to learn with the help of this medium. This research supports the importance of relevant learning according to Ausubel's learning theory, where this kind of learning helps students absorb and remember new material by relating it to what they already know. The RnD process in this research follows the ADDIE framework. The research results show that the media expert validation test has an average value of 97% and the material expert validation test has an average value of 91%. Experts provided several comments and provided minor revisions, but the Egg Countcrate Box media is still very valid for use. The teacher's assessment received an average score of 98% and students 99.5% based on data from small-scale and large-scale trials. Thus, this media practicality category is very practical without revision. There was an average increase of 0.67 in the media effectiveness test calculated using N-Gain analysis. The results from the N-Gain category are in the quite effective range, namely between 0.56-0.75. The results of testing the Egg Countcrate Box media for validity, practicality and effectiveness show that this media is very valid, very practical and effective enough to be the right choice for teaching basic counting skills. Keywords: egg countcrate box; ausubel; addition and subtraction

Abstract

This research is based on the finding that student personality also influences the success of learning, especially in self-regulated learning. This study investigates the personality of elementary school students and relates it to self-regulated learning. Understanding students' personalities is a teacher's task and key to academic success, for example, in its relationship to good self-control and organization in learning. Student personality is based on Trait theory, which classifies into openness to experience (x1), conscientiousness (x2), extraversion (x3), agreeableness (x4), and neuroticism (x5). Personality and self-regulated learning were explored through a self-assessment questionnaire consisting of thirty-five questions for elementary school-aged students. The results were analyzed partially and simultaneously to reveal their correlations with each other. The data in the study showed that partially conscientiousness and neuroticism were positively correlated with self-regulated learning, while no correlation was found for other behaviors. However, simultaneously, all (x) were correlated with students' self-regulated learning (y). In self-regulated learning, these results can be a basis for constructing good habits and self-control for students from the beginning of elementary school. The implications of understanding student personality can be a reference in selecting appropriate learning strategies.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationships between math anxiety, self-efficacy, and numeracy skills among prospective primary school teachers at the State University of Malang. Through quantitative methods, data were gathered from 130 participants using structured questionnaires and numeracy tests. Descriptive statistics and correlation analyses were performed to assess the extent to which math anxiety and self-efficacy influence numeracy performance. The findings reveal weak yet statistically significant correlations, with math anxiety negatively affecting numeracy skills and self-efficacy showing a positive association. However, these variables together accounted for only 3.5% of the variance in numeracy performance, leaving 96.5% of potential predictors unexamined. This suggests that psychological factors like math anxiety and self-efficacy, while important, play a less direct role in shaping numeracy skills than traditionally assumed. The results underline the need for a broader and more integrative approach to understanding the multifaceted nature of mathematical competence. Future studies are encouraged to investigate additional contributing factors, such as cognitive and environmental influences, and to expand the sample size for broader generalization. These findings have implications for designing interventions that simultaneously address psychological and contextual elements to enhance numeracy skills among prospective educators.
