Abstract

The lack of culturally relevant instructional materials for EFL learners, particularly in integrating linguistic competence with Islamic values, remains a critical challenge. This study addresses this issue by developing and validating the Speaking for Formal Interactions textbook, designed to enhance linguistic proficiency and ethical communication skills. Conducted within the English Language Education Department at AKM Islamic University (pseudonym), the research involved second-semester undergraduate students. Using the ADDIE model as a framework, data collection employed a mixed-methods approach, including semi-structured interviews, questionnaires, and pre-tests and post-tests, with thematic analysis for qualitative data and statistical analysis for quantitative data. The findings revealed significant improvements in students’ speaking skills and confidence, with qualitative feedback emphasizing the textbook’s alignment with Islamic values such as adab (courtesy) and tabligh (clear communication). Expert reviewers commended the content’s scaffolding and cultural integration while recommending the inclusion of advanced digital tools for enhanced interactivity. This study extends the ADDIE framework to culturally responsive education, offering a replicable model for integrating linguistic, cultural, and ethical dimensions, with future iterations suggesting broader applications and digital enhancements to increase accessibility and engagement.

Abstract

Hardness is a mechanical property that is needed when doing the hardfacing process. Increased violence can be generated by conducting a quenching process. The temperature of the quenching media is one of the important factors to produce maximum hardness. In this study a two-layer welding process will be carried out using HV 350 electrodes on low carbon steel then the specimens are heated in a furnace and quenching is carried out into water with two variations in water temperature namely 15 and 30 °C. Variations in water temperature during quenching produce varying hardness and microstructure. The highest hardness is produced at 15 °C where in micro photographs there are a few phases of smaller size compared to other specimens.

Abstract

In the current global era, there is a distinct need for cross-cultural understanding (CCU) instruction. This study endeavored to explore participants' perspectives following the completion of a course designed to enhance students' CCU knowledge and appreciation for diversity through a sharing approach. Data were collected via questionnaires and reflection reports, which were distributed to university students through Google Forms. Utilizing an explanatory sequential design, the study involved 18 university students enrolled in the Nusantara Module. The findings indicated a positive acceptance of the sharing approach among the students. Furthermore, the students revealed that their sense of nationalism remained intact despite exposure to different cultures. These results have several implications, including a promising direction for the development of more effective CCU courses and the potential of educational programs to augment global understanding without undermining national identity. Nevertheless, further research is needed to validate these findings across diverse settings and demographics. Future studies may also explore the long-term effects of the sharing approach on students' attitudes towards cultural diversity.

In high-rise buildings, before rinse water or used water is discharged into rivers or city channels, it must be treated. The problem encountered by partners is that reporting on this activity has not been carried out during the 2023 period. The aim of this activity is to prepare a report on wastewater disposal for the 1st and 2nd semester of 2023 which must be reported in 2024. The method is to recap the results of measuring the quality of water quality standards every quarter. Overall, the results of these measurements show that the quality of the wastewater tested is far from the applicable quality standards. Almost all parameters, except pH, exceed the permissible limits, which indicates that this wastewater treatment system is ineffective and requires significant improvement. Average results in a year are Ammonia 51.1 for BOD, 50.53 COD (Dichromate), 102.4 oils and fats, 9.75 for pH and 7.49 Total Coliform 80,000. Meanwhile the yield of suspended solids was 17,875. If this wastewater is discharged into the environment without additional treatment, it can cause serious pollution, negatively impacting the environment and public health. Improvement steps in the wastewater treatment system must be taken immediately to reduce this negative impact.

Abstract

Copper (Cu) is widely used in many sectors, such as drinking water piping, heat exchangers, and medical equipment. The present research conducted an electrodeposition of Cu over an aluminum (Al) alloy substrate under the influence of various magnetic poles and rotating speeds. In the present study, a number of investigations, including deposition rate, current efficiency, coating thickness, surface morphology and phase, crystallographic orientation, antibacterial activity, electrochemical behavior, and hardness test were conducted. Increasing the rotation speed promoted to enhanced deposition rate and current efficiency for both magnetic poles influence. An increase in the deposition rate from 12.83 to 13.67 µm/h led to the increasing thickness, a change in surface morphology near the spheroidal, becoming a faceted structure. Presenting and rising in the rotation of a magnetic field led to a reduced surface roughness and crystallite size of Cu film for both magnetic poles influence. The Cu film made without spinning magnetic had a characteristic of highest bacterial inhibition zone around 2.50 ±0.56 cm². The CuRN50 sample had the lowest corrosion rate at around 0.055 mmpy, while the CuRS100 sample had the highest hardness value at approximately 80.72 HV for having the lowest crystallite size. Cu coated onto Al alloy could enhance its properties, such as being antimicrobial, being resistant against corrosion and having the hardness value.
