Abstract

ABSTRACT Students' conceptual understanding of straight-motion topics remains relatively low due to learning practices that have not optimally promoted active participation and collaborative learning. This study aimed to examine the effect of the The Power of Two learning model assisted by the Wordwall game on improving students' conceptual understanding of straight motion. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The participants consisted of 72 students from MAN 1 Kota Batu, divided into an experimental class and a control class. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests using valid and reliable instruments. Data analysis was conducted using the Mann–Whitney test because the data were not normally distributed but were homogeneous, followed by N-Gain analysis to determine the improvement in students' conceptual understanding. The findings revealed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups (Asymp. Sig. < 0.05). The experimental class achieved an average N-Gain score of 0.60, categorized as moderate (moderately effective), while the control class obtained an average score of 0.30, categorized as moderate (less effective). These findings indicate that the The Power of Two learning model assisted by the Wordwall game is more effective than conventional instruction in improving students' conceptual understanding of straight-motion concepts. Therefore, this learning model can serve as an alternative instructional strategy to enhance the quality of physics learning in schools.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of the integrated assessment for Learning (AfL) which is assisted by the Tryout application in scientific approach on students' conceptual understanding. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. This research was conducted at a high school in Malang with a sample of two classes by a random cluster sampling technique. There were two classes involved, namely one as an experimental class (using an integrated AfL assisted with a tryout application in scientific approach) and one as a control class (using a scientific approach through assignment instructions). Thirthy four students in each class were tough the work and energy topic. The test instrument used was 20 reasoned multiple-choice questions with a reliability of 0.62. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential statistics. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the posttest mean scores of the experimental class students and the control class students (p = 0.017). Descriptive analysis showed that the mean scores of posttest students for the experiment and control class were 61.76 and 54.26, respectively. That means that the conceptual understanding of students who learn with integrated AfL that assisted by tryout application in scientific approach was higher than students who learn with the scientific approach through assignments.

Abstract

This research was conducted to obtain an initial design for a laboratory practical tool based on bifocal modeling assisted by an ESP32 microcontroller for kinetic gas theory. This study was conducted to obtain an initial design for a practical laboratory tool based on bifocal modeling assisted by the ESP32 microcontroller on the kinetic theory of gases. This study was conducted descriptively through a literature review of various book articles and materials. Interviews were conducted with students and physics teachers in high schools (9 students and two teachers in Malang, 15 students and three teachers in Bandung) in Indonesia. Interviews were conducted to obtain an overview of the application of physics learning and reveal other potential problems students and teachers face. The design of the bifocal modeling tool developed has been consulted with physics and ICT learning experts. The results are that it needs to be further developed and maintained until the manufacturing stage. Bifocal modeling based on the design developed in this study has the potential to facilitate students to conduct scientific experiments related to the kinetic theory of gases. Based on the equipment to be developed, it is expected that students will be able to observe macroscopic gas phenomena through actual experiments, monitor microscopic phenomena visualized through computer models, collect data in actual experiments and computer simulations, and compare data. Students' understanding of the concept of the kinetic theory of gases has the potential to be improved by conducting practical work using bifocal modeling-based tools.
