Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation of stall sanitation on fly density and Cryptosporidium sp. presence on housefly. This study type was observational with a cross sectional approach in Jatian Village, Pakusari District, Jember Regency on December 2021 - February 2022. Data type was primary data that obtained using interview and observation. The correlation test that used was contingency coefficient test. The results showed that 77,5% of the stall had high fly density. Prevalence of Cryptosporidium sp. on housefly was 10%. Statistical analysis showed that cattle manure handling affected fly density (p≤0,05) with low correlation (r=0,384), meanwhile air vents affected Cryptosporidium sp. presence on housefly (p≤0,05) with low correlation (r=0,359). Farmers were suggested to keep the stall sanitation optimal to prevent Cryptosporidium transmission to humans.

Abstract

Ascaris lumbricoides is nematode which often infest human in the world. The infestation of A. lumbricoides in the human will trigger the formation of Th2 immune responses through increased interleukin-4 released by innate immune cells. Th2 immune response generates B lymphocyte cells to produce IgE antibodies to eliminate A. lumbricoides. Therefore, IL-4 is a marker of Th2 immune response. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of ascariasis and an increase of IL-4 in planters infested with A. lumbricoides as a marker of Th2 immune response. Our study was observational analytic with cross sectional design. 230 planters who were willing to be involved in the study gave stool samples for the diagnosis of ascariasis. 20 people who were positive for ascariasis and 20 people who were negative selected randomly for blood plasma samples. IL-4 levels in blood plasma were measured using ELISA. Differences in IL4 levels between positive and negative ascariasis were analyzed by the Mann Whitney statistical test with p value ≤ 0.05. The prevalence of ascariasis among planters in rural area of Jember was 16,52% which was included low prevalence. Univariate analysis showed that the mean and median levels of IL-4 ascariasis were greater than those of healthy planters. Mann Whitney test results showed that there were differences in levels of IL-4 between ascariasis and healthy planters (p≤0.05). Increased levels of IL-4 in planters with ascariasis indicate that A. lumbricoides infection triggers the formation of Th2 immune response as a mechanism for eliminating A. lumbricoides. Abstract

ABSTRAK Antibiotik berguna untuk kesehatan manusia maupun hewan. Tetrasiklin salah satu jenis antibiotiik yang paling sering digunakan di peternakan ayam untuk tujuan pengobatan, pencegahan maupun perangsang pertumbuhan (Antibiotic Growth promoter/AGP) dalam pakan ayam broiler. Bakteri Escherichia coli (E. coli) banyak ditemukan di lingkungan peternakan dan dapat mencemari hati ayam. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mengetahui resistensi bakteri E. coli yang diisolasi dari hati ayam broiler terhadap tetrasiklin. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif. Sampel yang digunakan bakteri E. coli pada hati ayam broiler. Ayam broiler diambil berasal dari PT X yang berada pada 6 desa di Kecamatan Sumbersari, Kabupaten Jember. Uji resistensi bakteri dilakukan dengan Metode Kirby Bauer. Data dianalisis dengan metode Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa bakteri yang ditemukan dari hati ayam 100% adalah golongan bakteri Gram negatif. Berdasarkan hasil kultu rpada media EMB dan pengecatan Gram sebanyak 67% sampel teridentifikasi positif bakteri E. coli. Pada uji resistensi antibiotik didapatkan 50% sensitif, 25% intermediet dan 25% resistensi terhadap tetrasiklin. Kesimpulan pada penelitian ini bakteri E. coli yang diisolasi dari hati ayam broiler 25% resisten terhadap tetrasiklinKata kunci: Eschecicia coli, tetrasiklin, hati ayam, resistancePrevalence of Escherichia Coli Resistance to Tetracyclin Isolated from Broiler Chicken LiverABSTRACT Antibiotics are useful for human and animal health. Tetracyclines are one of the most commonly used antibiotics in chicken farms for medicinal purposes, prevention, and growth stimulants (Antibiotic Growth promoter / AGP) in broiler feed. Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria are found in many livestock environments and can contaminate chicken livers. The purpose of this study was to determine the resistance of E. coli isolated from broiler chicken livers to tetracyclines. This research is descriptive. The samples used were E. coli bacteria in the broiler liver. Broiler chickens were taken from PT X in 6 villages in Sumbersari District, Jember Regency. The test for bacterial resistance was carried out using the Kirby Bauer method. Data were analyzed using the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute method. The results of this study indicated that the bacteria found from 100% chicken liver were gram-negative bacteria. Based on the results of culture on EMB media and Gram staining, 67% of the samples were identified as positive for E. coli bacteria. In the antibiotic resistance test, it was found that 50% sensitivity, 25% intermediates, and 25% resistance to tetracyclines were found. The conclusion in this study was that E. coli bacteria isolated from 25% broiler chicken liver was resistant to tetracyclines.Keywords: Eschecicia coli, tetracyclines, chicken liver, resistance

Abstract

Background: Helminthiasis is a neglected tropical disease and still remain a health problem in tropical and sub-tropical countries, including Indonesia. According to WHO, approximately 1,5 billion people or 24% of the world's population, are infected with Soil-Transmitted Helminth (STH). Morbidity is directly related to the intensity of STH infestation. Some of the studies shown a significant correlation between eosinophilia and helminthiasis. Eosinophilia on the blood smear examination may be used as a marker of STH infestation. Purpose: to determine the correlation between Soil-Transmitted Helminthiases and eosinophilia as a predictor of morbidity of STH infestation among Widodaren Plantation Workers in Jember. Method: This observational analytical study use the Kato-Katz method to determine infestation of STH and its intensity measured by egg count per gram stool (EPG). Blood smear examination stained with Giemsa conduct to determine eosinophil count. Result: Prevalence of STH infestation was 22,7% (15/66). Ascaris lumbricoides infection was 13,6% (9/66) and Hookworm infection was 4,5% (3/66). There is mixed infection between A. lumbricoides and Hookworm, the prevalence was 4,5%% (3/66). All of the infection intensity was light. The prevalence of eosinophilia was 27,2% (18/66). There was a significant correlation between STH infection and eosinophilia (P=0,000) but, there was a very weak correlation between the intensity of STH infection and eosinophilia (r=0,281; p=0,258). Conclusion: The prevalence of STH infection among Widodaren Plantation Workers is 22,7% and predominated by A. lumbriocides. There is a positive correlation between intensity of STH infection and eosinophilia as predictor morbidity of STH infection with very weak power.

Abstract

Background: Vaginal atrophy has occurred in three quarters of post-menopausal women. The exclusive source of post-menopausal sex hormones is dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Purpose: Observe the impact of orally administered DHEA in the vagina of a rat (Rattus norvegicus) post- bilateral ovariectomy. Method: This experiment utilized 36 wistar rats aged 10 - 12 weeks with a body weight of 180 - 200 grams. The rats were randomly divided into two groups with an equal number of members. The control group was orally administered glycerin via gavage at a dose of 1 mL per day, while the treatment group received 7.2 mg of DHEA dissolved in glycerin, also administered orally via gavage at a daily dose of up to 1 mL. Both groups were maintained for 42 consecutive days. Finally, a histomorphology examination was conducted on the vaginal tissues of the sacrificed rats. Result: The mean of epithelial and smooth muscle thickness of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group (p-value < 0.05). Besides, the number of blood vessels were also significantly higher in the treated group (p-value < 0.05). Conclusion: Administering DHEA orally via gavage enhances epithelial and smooth muscle tissue thickness, and augments the number of blood vessels in the vagina of wistar rats after bilateral ovariectomy.

Abstract

Basil is one type of vegetable that can be consumed without any processing. Unprocessed vegetables can cause contamination from Coliform bacteria. This study aimed to determine the number and identification of coliform fecal bacteria as a biological indicator suitable for consumption. This study used descriptive observational with a cross-sectional from November 2020 to March 2021. The research locations are from 8 Traditional Markets in Jember and the Microbiology Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine Jember University. The sample in this study consisted of 40 samples from basil vegetable sellers. The Most Probable Number method was carried out in two stages in this study. First, a presumptive test using lactose broth, and two, a complete test using Eosin Methylene Blue. The results of the presumptive test obtained 100% of the number of MPNs that exceeded the maximum limit for food quality suitable for consumption, according to BPOM. The complete test results showed that 82.5% of basil was contaminated with fecal coliform bacteria, namely Escherichia coli. Practically all the samples were highly infected with coliform bacteria. Suggestions the community is expected to pay attention to techniques in washing and processing basil vegetables properly to break the chain of bacterial contamination

Abstract

Art is an expression of the human spirit and culture used in showing beauty. Art is one of the fields that many students master, one of which is university students. The University of Jember facilitates the interests and talents of students in the field of Art with the establishment of the Art Student Activity Unit (UKM Kesenian). This research contains about the University of Jember Arts UKM, preservation and appreciation of Indonesian culture through Arts UKM. This study aims to (1) describe the Art Student Activity Unit, (2) analyze the questionnaire data and describe development of creativity,  and appreciation of the art of Jember University students. This research uses quantitative and qualitative methods with a descriptive approach. Primary and secondary data collection was carried out using observation, qualitative visuals, questionnaires, literature review, and direct interviews. Questionnaire is a way of collecting data that contains a series of questions distributed to students. Interview is an activity between two or more people to get information. Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that the development of creativity through UKM Arts is considered efficient and effective as evidenced by the implementation of work programs and achievements achieved by members of UKM Arts. Appreciation through UKM Arts is carried out by many students joining as members and participating as spectators. Appreciation not through UKM Arts is expressed by appreciation of batik, namely by using batik while studying.

Abstract

Abstrak: Telur asin merupakan telur mentah yang diolah melalui proses pengolahan dan pengasinan. Keuntungan dari proses pengasinan adalah meningkatkan cita rasa dari telur, yakni masir atau berpasir yang terdapat pada kuning telur. Peluang bisnis telur asin cukup besar sehingga diharapkan dapat berkembang dengan pesat khususnya di Dusun Rekesan Timur. Tujuan dari produksi telur asin yaitu menciptakan peluang dalam pengembangan ekonomi berkelanjutan pascaerupsi Semeru dan sebagai aksi ketahanan pangan berkearifan setempat, memanfaatkan telur bebek untuk diolah menjadi produk telur asin yang memiliki nilai jual yang lebih tinggi. Metode yang digunakan oleh mahasiswa KKN untuk pelaksanaan pengembangan telur asin melalui beberapa kegiatan diantaranya menggali potensi UMKM, Survey dan melalukan inovasi pembuatan telur asin, sosialisasi, dan pendampingan melalui digital marketing. Hasil yang diperoleh dari kegiatan pengembangan diantaranya produk telur asin, kemasan produk dari karton, poster produk, dan foto studio mini untuk membantu melancarkan proses pemasaran serta pendampingan melalui platform digital marketing seperti Facebook, Google Maps, WhatApps Business yang diharapkan dapat memaksimalkan penjualannya dan produk telur asin Dusun Rekesan Timur lebih dikenal luas.Abstract: Salted eggs are raw eggs that are processed through a processing and salting process. The advantage of the salting process is that it enhances the taste of the egg, which is the gritty or gritty content of the egg yolk. The salted egg business opportunity is quite large so it is hoped that it will develop rapidly, especially in the East Rekesan Hamlet. The purpose of salted egg production is to create opportunities for sustainable economic development after the Semeru eruption and as an action for food security with local wisdom, utilizing duck eggs to be processed into salted egg products that have a higher selling value. The method used by KKN students for the implementation of salted egg development is through several activities including exploring the potential of MSMEs, surveying and carrying out salted egg making innovations, socialization, and assistance through digital marketing. The results obtained from development activities include salted egg products, product packaging from cardboard, product posters, and mini photo studios to help expedite the marketing process and assistance through digital marketing platforms such as Facebook, Google Maps, WhatApps Business which is expected to maximize sales and egg products. salty Dusun Rekesan Timur is more widely known.

Abstract

Kompos merupakan hasil pembusukan atau pelapukan sisa-sisa organisme hidup yaitu limbah tumbuhan dan kotoran hewan. Pembuatan pupuk kompos dari kotoran hewan ternak dapat meningkatkan hasil pertanian dan mengurangi dampak pencemaran lingkungan. Metode yang digunakan terbagi dalam dua tahap yaitu tahap persiapan dan tahap sosialisasi dan praktek. Kegiatan pengabdian ini diadakan di Desa Karanganyar, Kecamatan Yosowilangun, Kabupaten Lumajang, dan berlangsung selama dua hari. Pada hari pertama, kelompok tani diberi sosialisasi tentang cara membuat pupuk kompos. Pada hari kedua, dilaksanakan praktek pembuatan pupuk kompos dengan bantuan Badan Penyuluh Pertanian (BPP) Kecamatan Yosowilangun dan Dinas Pertanian Kabupaten Lumajang. Tujuan dari program ini adalah untuk memberikan masyarakat Desa Karanganyar pengetahuan mengenai cara memanfaatkan limbah kotoran hewan ternak menjadi pupuk kompos yang bermanfaat untuk menyuburkan tanah dan meningkatkan kualitas hasil pertanian. Diharapkan masyarakat dapat memanfaatkan limbah hewan ternak untuk mendukung kelestarian lingkungan dan meningkatkan ketahanan pangan.

Abstract

Tengkes, atau stunting, merupakan masalah kesehatan yang signifikan di Desa Karangrejo, Kecamatan Yosowilangun, Kabupaten Lumajang. Program kerja “ASTATEGI” (Aksi Sehat Tangani Tengkes dan Inovasi Gizi Protein Hewani Berbasis UMKM Ibu-Ibu PKK Desa Karangrejo) dirancang sebagai upaya peningkatan kesadaran dan pemberdayaan masyarakat dalam pencegahan tengkes melalui edukasi gizi dan pemberian makanan bergizi berbasis pangan lokal. Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi efektivitas program ASTATEGI dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan masyarakat terkait asupan gizi serta mengurangi angka tengkes di desa tersebut. Program ini dilaksanakan selama tiga hari dengan berbagai kegiatan sosialisasi dan demonstrasi masak yang melibatkan remaja putri, calon pengantin, ibu hamil, dan orang tua balita. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan masyarakat mengenai gizi seimbang dan pentingnya pemenuhan asupan protein hewani untuk mencegah tengkes. Program ASTATEGI berhasil menggerakkan partisipasi masyarakat dalam mendukung penurunan angka tengkes melalui pemanfaatan bahan pangan lokal seperti daun kelor.
