Abstract

This study aims to: (1) develop a Toonly animation video suitable for the bunpo shochukyu course at the Japanese Language Education Study Program at Ganesha University of Education (UNDIKSHA); and (2) analyze the feasibility level of the Toonly animation video suitable for the bunpo shochukyu course at the Japanese Language Education Study Program at Ganesha University of Education (UNDIKSHA). This study uses the MDLC (Multimedia Development Life Cycle) development model modified by Binanto. The subjects of this study were grade 2 students at the UNDIKSHA Japanese Language Education Study Program. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. Data was collected by conducting interviews and completing questionnaires. The results of this study are: (1) Three animation videos which are suitable video characteristics according to the Buncher (2) Based on expert judgment material, the animated video received an average rating of 54 (very good). According to the media expert's assessment, animated videos obtained an average rating of 57 (very good). Meanwhile, in the assessment of six actors, an average rating of 115.1 (very good) was obtained. Based on the results of the assessment, the three animation videos were declared suitable for use in the Bunpo Shochukyu course at the UNDIKSHA Japanese Language Education Study Program.

Abstract

As gender constructs could be disseminated through language, English textbooks could be a fertile arena to maintain or deconstruct traditional gender constructs.  Since seventh grade students are in their stage to assert their sexual identity, their exposure to English textbook could affect their perception of gendered positions in the society. The present study purposefully aimed to analyzed the language used in English textbook for Grade 7, because the book was published by the Indonesian Ministry of National Education and recommended to be used nationally in public schools in Indonesia. Designed as a descriptive qualitative study, the dialogues and monologues in the textbook were examined to reveal the stereotyped concepts of gender and the deconstruction of the stereotyped concepts of gender. The data were observed under categories on deficit, dominance, and difference approach by Lakoff, supported by critical perspective of language and gender from Coates. The result of the study revealed that the textbook represents gendered language stereotypes in the use of lexical hedges and fillers, empty adjectives, intensifier along with male domination in the conversation. ‘Male firstness’ pattern of mentioning names, choice of topics, and focus of the conversation. However, the book has also included efforts to deconstruct the stereotypes through the deconstruction of conflict versus compromise and tag question usage. The results implies that future textbooks should include more deconstructions of gender stereotypes through language use, while teachers should use the present book with more critical approach to raise awareness about gender equity, especially through language use.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to analyze the preparedness for learning Japanese in a courageous manner during the Covid-19 pandemic at SMA Negeri 1 Kubudinding in the 2020/2021 academic year. The subjects in this study were 177 students of SMA Negeri 1 Kubudinding who received Japanese as a subject. The research method used was structured interviews and open and closed questionnaires. In this study using the theory of Chapnick (2000) and Kebritchi, et al (2017) regarding learning readiness for students, teachers and materials. The research model used for data analysis is the E-Learning readiness research model by Aydin and Tasci (2005). The results showed that student readiness had a total ELR score of 3.34, teacher readiness had an ELR score of 3.36 and material readiness had an ELR score of 3.34. The third factor is included in the same category, namely not ready and still needs effort. Thus the level of readiness for learning Japanese boldly at SMA Negeri 1 Kubu added is declared not ready and still needs effort.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an appropriate animated video form for the Bunpo Shochukyu course chapters 41-43 at the Japanese Language Education Study Program UNDIKSHA and analyze the feasibility level of the animated video being developed. The model used is the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) which was introduced by Luther Sutopo and modified by Binanto (2010). The development of this learning video was carried out based on the results of semi-structured interviews by supporting lecturer 1 and supporting lecturer 2 to find out the obstacles to the Bunpo Shochukyu course in the UNDIKSHA Japanese Language Education Study Program. The distribution of questionnaires to students was also carried out to determine the readiness, strengths and weaknesses of the learning media used and the distribution of a second questionnaire to determine the characteristics of the desired learning media. The results of this study are 3 animation-based shochukyu bunpo learning videos which are equipped with backsound and have passed the feasibility test stage by alpha test and beta test. The first assessment by media experts obtained an average of 57 and the assessment by material experts obtained an average of 53. The second assessment by media experts obtained an average of 59 and the assessment by material obtained an average of 52. The beta test was carried out by 6 students and obtained an average of 98.5. The results of the assessment on the alpha test and beta test stated that the learning video developed was feasible to use.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the representation of liberal feminism in the anime Howl's Moving Castle directed by Miyazaki Hayao. This type of research was using descriptive qualitative analysis method. The theory of Roland Barthes' semiotics and liberal feminism ideology were used in this research. The data that has been collected will be analyzed with the concept of two orders of signification in semiotics that includes denotation (explicit), connotation (implicit), and myth. The results found in the research show that the main character Sophie Hatter reflects a sign of liberal feminism. Various signs of liberal feminism appear through Sophie Hatter's character designs which include self-confidence, toughness, and courage. In the context of characterization analysis about Sophie Hatter is shown through the stages of her life's adventure can form an identity to expressing herself freely. In the other hand, the myth in the anime Howl''s Moving Castle shows the contradiction between ideology of liberal feminism and Japanese society’s point of view towards the freedom of life for women. The connection between Sophie Hatter and liberal feminism refers to women's rights in the sense that they are equal as same as the men.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the representation of masculinity in the Dola character in the anime "Laputa: Castle in the Sky (1986)." This study is a linguistic research employing a qualitative descriptive method. The research theory used includes Roland Barthes' semiotics and the concept of masculinity by David Deborah and Robert Brannon. Data collection was conducted through observation and note-taking, and data validity was ensured through data triangulation. The findings of this study indicate that the character Dola reflects masculinity. Various signs of masculinity are evident through Dola's character design, which includes dominance, protectiveness, the ability to separate feelings from ideas, aggressiveness, ambition, physical strength, rationality, leadership qualities, daringness, competence and competitiveness. Despite embodying masculinity, Dola maintains feminine aspects in her appearance, as reflected in her wearing of a skirt, two braided pink hair, the use of earrings, and her tender-heartedness displayed through her affection for Sheeta and Pazu.

Abstract

Pembelajaran otentik adalah konsep untuk mendekatkan dunia nyata atau pengalaman nyata kepada siswa di dalam kelas. Penggunaan pembelajaran otentik yang menghadirkan realitas di dalam kelas lebih kontekstual dengan aktivitas siswa sehari-hari. Virtual Reality (VR) menawarkan simulasi multimedia 3D kehidupan nyata interaktif, mempromosikan interaktivitas dengan dunia ciptaan, dan memungkinkan sensasi sensorik. Artikel ini mensintesis artikel penelitian sebelumnya dari jurnal terindeks SCOPUS tentang penggunaan realitas virtual untuk mendukung pembelajaran otentik di ruang kelas bahasa abad ke-21. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam tinjauan pustaka ini adalah pendekatan yang disederhanakan oleh Aveyard (2010). Hasil tinjauan pustaka ini menemukan bahwa penggunaan virtual reality memberikan beberapa manfaat dalam pembelajaran otentik di kelas bahasa abad 21. Selain itu, penggunaan Virtual Reality di kelas bahasa abad ke-21 juga memiliki kelebihan dan kekurangan. Kajian ini mengimplikasikan bahwa implementasi Realitas Virtual di bawah kerangka teoritis dan teknik yang ada akan mempertahankan premis bahwa hasil pembelajaran dibantu oleh pengoperasian lingkungan virtual di bawah kerangka teoritis yang ditetapkan.

Abstract

This study aims to: (1) Develop educational videos in the shakai gengogaku class, especially topic I: Language variations in Japan, in the Japanese language education department of Ganesha University of Education (UNDIKSHA). (2) To analyze the level of feasibility of the developed product. This study uses the Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) development model introduced by Luther, and modified by Binanto (2010). The results of this study are: (1) 2 educational videos that match the criteria of a good educational video proposed by Buchner, which are less than 6 minutes long, delivered in easy-to-understand language, and can be used as an introduction to understanding the material. (2) Based on the assessment by media experts, material experts, and the students, the developed educational video is very suitable for use in the shakai gengogaku class in the Japanese language education study department of UNDIKSHA.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk melakukan analisis butir soal Ujian Sekolah bahasa Jepang kelas XII di SMA Negeri 2 Singaraja dengan aspek validitas, reliabilitas, taraf kesukaran, daya pembeda, dan efektivitas pengecoh. Subjek pada penelitian ini adalah butir soal pilihan ganda Ujian Sekolah bahasa Jepang Kelas XII Tahun ajaran 2020/2021 di SMAN 2 Singaraja. Dikumpulkan dengan metode dokumentasi,”kemudian dilanjutkan dengan analisis menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif.“Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan Validitas soal ujian sekolah memiliki sebanyak 19 soal (76%) dalam predikat baik, dan sisanya, yaitu 6 butir soal (24%) dalam predikat tidak baik. Reliabilitas keseluruhan soal pilihan ganda dinyatakan sebesar 0.751 dengan kata lain reliabilitas soal ujian sekolah tersebut dapat dikatakan tinggi. Berdasarkan Taraf kesukaran, terdapat 13 soal kategori mudah dan 12 soal kategori sedang. Berdasarkan daya pembeda terdapat 7 butir soal dengan kategori baik, 5 butir soal dengan kategori cukup dan 13 soal dengan kategori jelek. Berdasarkan efektivitas pengecoh, terdapat 3 butir soal yang seluruh pengecohnya efektif, terdapat 4 butir soal yang memiliki 1 pengecoh tidak efektif dan 7 soal yang mempunyai 2 pengecoh tidak efektif. Selanjutnya, 6 butir soal memiliki 3 pengecoh yang tidak efektif. Sisanya, yakni 5 butir soal, mempunyai 4 alternatif jawaban yang tidak efektif.

Abstract

This article discusses the use of the -ni shimasu pattern by beginner learners (1st year university students). The research purpose is described the uses of -ni shimasu pattern by beginner learners. The method is descriptive qualitative. The results are examples of students attaching nouns to the -ni shimasu pattern. Attaching adjectives are not used by students. The nouns used are related to food and drinks, transportation, clothing and accessories, and places. Students tend to provide example sentences by replacing nouns in the pattern without looking at the meaning formed from the sentence. In the use of nouns related to clothing and accessories, students use the theme of recycling in the example in Marugoto A2 basic level 1 as a reference. The results show students are already able to make example sentences using the -ni shimasu pattern but ignore the meaning of the sentence.
