Abstract

Numeracy is a basic competency that needs to be developed in early childhood as part of cognitive development. Based on initial observations at the Cemerlang Early Childhood Education Center (PAUD) in Selasih Village, Kaur Regency, Bengkulu Province, the numeracy skills of Group B children aged 5–6 years old are still low. This study aims to improve children's numeracy skills through the application of number sticks in learning activities. The study used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach using the Kemmis and McTaggart model, implemented in two cycles, including planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The study subjects consisted of 10 children in Group B: 4 boys and 6 girls. Data were collected through observation, performance tests, and documentation, then analyzed descriptively using quantitative and qualitative methods. The results showed that the use of number sticks gradually improved children's numeracy skills. The learning completion rate reached 30% at the initial stage, then increased to 60% in Cycle I and reached 90% in Cycle II. This improvement was evident in the children's ability to recognize number symbols, count objects, connect quantities with number symbols, and complete simple addition calculations. The research findings indicate that number sticks can be used as an effective learning alternative to develop early childhood numeracy skills. Furthermore, the results achieved exceeded the established success indicator of 75%.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the improvement of early numeracy skills in Group A children at TK Husnul Khotimah Bengkulu City through modified congklak games. This research used Classroom Action Research (CAR) with the Kemmis & McTaggart model. The subjects were 15 students of Group A. The study was conducted in 2 cycles over 2 months, from March to April 2026. Data were collected through observation and documentation, then analyzed using percentage techniques. The results showed that in Cycle I, children's numeracy skills were still low: 12.5% for counting 1-10, 18.75% for the concept of more-less, and 16.25% for simple addition. After reflection and action improvement in Cycle II by simplifying the congklak holes, adding number cards 1-5, and using two-colored seeds, children's numeracy skills increased significantly. In Cycle II, 85.50% of children were able to count 1-10, 88.5% understood the concept of more-less, and 91.25% could perform simple addition with the criteria of Very Well Developed (VWD).

Abstract

This study aims to find out the effect of the interactive Wordwall media on the reading skills of 5–6-year-old children at TK Assyofa Padang. The research uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method, involving 30 children as samples divided into an experimental class and a control class. Data collection was done using a checklist test with 5 statements, while data analysis was carried out through normality test, homogeneity test, and independent sample t-test using SPSS 25. The results show a sig (2-tailed) value of 0.036 < 0.05, which means Ha is accepted, with an average increase in reading skills in the experimental class (18.53) being higher than in the control class (17.53). Therefore, it can be concluded that the interactive Wordwall media has a significant effect on improving early childhood reading skills and can be used as an innovative learning media alternative.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the underdeveloped ability of children to recognize English number vocabulary, which was caused by the limited use of engaging and varied learning media. As a result, children experienced difficulties in recognizing, pronouncing, and remembering English number vocabulary. Therefore, this study focused on the use of Pop-Up Book media as a learning medium that could attract children's attention and facilitate their understanding of English number vocabulary. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental research design. The population consisted of all children at TK Negeri 02 Pancung Soal. The sample was selected using a cluster sampling technique, involving Class B1 and Class B3, with 10 children in each class. Data were collected through a test consisting of four assessment items. The data were analyzed using normality testing, homogeneity testing, and hypothesis testing with the assistance of SPSS Version 25.The results indicated that the data from both the experimental and control groups were normally distributed and homogeneous. The hypothesis testing showed a significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.004. Since 0.004 was less than 0.05 (0.004 < 0.05), the null hypothesis (H₀) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Hₐ) was accepted. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of Pop-Up Book media had a significant effect on children's ability to recognize English number vocabulary at TK Negeri 02 Pancung Soal. The findings also revealed that Pop-Up Book media effectively improved children's ability to recognize, pronounce, and understand English number vocabulary compared with conventional learning that did not use Pop-Up Book media.

Abstract

Language politeness is an important aspect of character building and the social development of early childhood. This study aimed to determine the level of language politeness among children aged 5-6 years at Taman Kanak-kanak Islam Terpadu Karakter Anak Shalih, Padang City, based on Geoffrey Leech’s theory of language politeness. This study employed a quantitative approach using a descriptive method. The population as well as the sample consisted of 20 children aged 5-6 years selected using the total sampling technique. Data were collected through structured observation using a rating scale observation sheet consisting of 12 statements representing three indicators: the Tact Maxim, the Generosity Maxim, and the Approbation Maxim. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including mean scores and percentages. The results showed that the children's level of language politeness was in the moderate category, with a mean score of 2.99 and a percentage of 74.75%. These findings indicate that the children's language politeness has developed at a moderate level; however, continuous habituation and stimulation are still needed to optimize its development

Abstract

Speaking A crucial component of early childhood language development is ability because It helps kids in expressing ideas, experiences, and feelings during everyday interactions. Difficulties in speaking ability were still found among kids of Taman Kanak-Kanak Negeri Pembina Lubuk Sikaping who are five to six years old, including limited vocabulary, difficulties in constructing simple sentences, limited fluency in answering questions, and low confidence in expressing opinions. These conditions indicate the need for learning media that are engaging and appropriate to children's learning characteristics. The purpose of this study was to ascertain how animated fairy tale movies affected the speaking abilities of youngsters between the ages of five and six. Using a pretest-posttest control group design and a quasi-experimental methodology, the study used a quantitative approach. There were 26 kids involved, including 13 kids in the experimental group and 13 kids in the control group. Observation was used to gather data using a speaking ability assessment instrument and examined utilizing the independent samples t-test, homogeneity, and normalcy methods. The outcomes shown an improvement in this speaking ability from children in this trial group after receiving treatment through animated fairy-tale videos. The mean pretest score for the experimental group rose from 9.23 to 17.77 on the posttest, while the controls group's mean score increased from 9.08 to 14.15. There was a significant difference between the two groups, as indicated by the independent samples t-test's significance value of less than 0.001. Animated fairy-tale videos can therefore be utilized as an alternate teaching method to encourage youngsters between the ages of five and six to talk.
